@Genesis Rhapsodos Masvidal is terrible was absolutely destroyed by Usman only took the flight on six days so he could use it as an excuse he will never be the champ he has his fake belt though
Come on, give the ref a break. The man wasn't trying to get loose, he was just limp. And when seconds count because someone is literally getting their life choked out of them there isn't time to do 10 different checks. He wasn't intelligently defending himself or trying to improve his position. Fight over, crank up the rematch.
Seeing how funny, witty, charismatic, and a good self-promoter Ben is, it's such a letdown his UFC career went as it was One can imagine how the welterweight division would've been when he somehow became champ
Bottom line is that askrens stand up was absolutely shocking and not even close to the level it needed to be to compete in the ufc. Idc how good your wrestling is, if you have the striking skills of a teenage school girl you're going to get smashed.
@Shroom Grizzley I know he was a champion. I’m fully aware of his career as a dominant wrestler inside the cage. But he just doesn’t match up against the guys in the UFC.
@@raiderrichard7291 Askren did prove to me that wrestling is a super important fundemental for MMA Tons of good kickboxers would do worse than Ben Askren in mma.
@@TheKickboxingCommunity it’s definitely awesome watching a wrestler man handle his opponent for 3 to 5 rounds. To me, that’s absolute domination and control. Khabib showed me that wrestling is just as entertaining when compared to stand-up.
The ref did a good job here... lawlers arm def goes limp for a second and it appeared he was out in real time. Even if he wasn’t out fully tho, askren had him in trouble he was no longer trying to improve his position and was essentially waiting for the inevitable.
Yes. These kids need to come to terms with the fact that Ben Asked beat their precious Robby Lawler. Hate when people rush to make excuses for the losses of fan favorite fighters
Yeah people always point to his 5 sec KO as to why he sucks. That was just a perfect gameplan execute perfectly on Jorge's part. If anything, it's the loss to 40 year old Demian Maia that people should point to when critiquing Askren.
Lawler gave him the most appropriate introduction to the UFC possible. It’s a shame “ruthless” isn’t the same anymore but he was a god for the first 30 seconds of the Askren fight.
@@Grumpadelic Nah, I just think you’re in denial. He’s still an incredible fighter, but his prime years finished after he worked Rory. You don’t “recover” from a fight like that; especially at that age.
I was devastated when Lawler lost. One of my favorite fighters and he put on such a show, that fireman's carry type slam made me jump out of my seat. Props to Askren for surviving that lol, but man I wanted Robbie to win.
I agree and when u go out u normally don't remember what happened so Robbie wouldn't have even known ..your arm doesn't flop down like that to rest lol
He was supposed to grab the arm and see if he would stiffen like he was fine In any case , whatever happened, when Ben released the choke there is no way Robbie was out. He sprung up clear eyed and alert, instantly telling the ref he was fine.
@@bobdole7292 so many fighters do that by instinct, there are fighters who straight up go unconscious or get TKO'd who instantly move to tripping or shooting takedowns on refs. Not the way I wanted to see that fight end but you shouldnt have your arm drop completely limp like that.
@@Joshua-bh7iu I know what you mean but there is usually at least a split second where they’re wobbly or dizzy or clearly out of it. Robbie was totally fine
5:23 imagine going back in time to this moment and telling both Askren and Woodley that they’re going to both be KO’d by Jake Paul in a few years. They’d laugh you out of the building
The way Ben dresses lol and when the bell rings inside the octagon and the way Ben put up his hands and his posture, you can tell that there's every thing wrong with his stand up for the level of competition he's righting 😁😁
