It was originally written and recorded in 1958 and covered several times…LeAnn’s music idol Patsy Cline died in an accident before she was able to cover it…LeAnn was 13 when she recorded “Blue” and won Grammy for it at 14 for “Best New Artist” [the youngest]…as well as “Best Performance by Female Country Artist”.
She's not the youngest Grammy winner anymore. However, she still maintains the youngest SOLO artist to ever win a grammy. The Peasell Sisters were younger when they won for group/band country performance.
LeAnn Rimes was 13 years old when she did Blue. That was her first hit and for OBVIOUS Reasons!! Amazing how gorgeous her voice was at such a young age
The man that wrote this had written it for Patsy Cline. He actually had waited and looked for someone that could sing like Patsy would. He heard LeAnn singing "THE NATIONAL ANTHEM" at a ballgame. When he heard her, he knew that he had found who he had been waiting for. LeAnn was 13 when she recorded it and at 14 she won 3 Grammy's for it. I would say that she was worth waiting for, wouldn't you?
This was Leann's first hit, when she was a young teen. Lovely! She did (much later) a duet with Eddie Arnold called "Cattle Call". That is an excellent collaboration to check out!
I clearly remember hearing this song on the radio when it first came out. I believe she was 13 at the time. When I first heard it I thought it was Patsy Cline. Another fairly early one you should listen to is a song she sang with classic artist Eddie Arnold called Cattle Call. Eddie was also known for his yodel.
Powerful to the max. And 13 when she began!! Yodel ! Ya know its her every time. Dan4/09/22. Ps. And done with such eaze!! Pss. Just cked. She was just 13 when she recorded this! Unreal! Such a great chann. Keep it up.
This woman's voice is utterly amazing she's been compared to Patsy Clines voice I could listen to her all day 💕🌹💕🌹 she was 14 I think when she did this song...love her , awesome reaction , much love and respect 💕💕🌹💞😘🥰 should check her out singing Cowboys Sweetheart OMG💕
My friend, short and sweet, you just listened to one of the greatest Country songs ever sung. It was intended for Patsy Cline to sing it but tragedy struck and 14 year old LeAnn Rimes was chosen to sing it instead. The arrangement of the song, the fabulous melody combined with LeAnn's voice created a MASTERPIECE which will never be forgotten. Three Country singers have been recognized for their great ability to yodel: Patsy Cline, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire. Btw, LeAnn idolized Patsy Cline and she has often been asked to do tributes to her and she really pulls at your heart strings because of the similarity of their voices. Listen to her sing "the" most favorite Country song of all time made famous by Patsy Cline, 'Crazy'.
Folks, let me fill in the history on the song BLUE. It was written by a DJ named Bill Mack for Patsy Cline and she was not able to record it before her death. Bill held the song for Years and years until he heard Leann sing the national anthem at a ball game. Bill sent a demo to her father to see if Leann would be interested in the song. She fell in love with it and recorded it twice actually over a two-year period. Once at 11 years and again at 13 years old. The first recording which is the one you're listening to here was recorded when she was 11years old. After she recorded It they shelfed it for two years while negotiating with two different record labels. One wanted to shelf it and the company Curb wanted to release it, so Leann went with Curb records and recorded the song again at 13 years old just before the official release. Funny thing is the one released was the original recording at 11yrs old. Leann explained the mix up was a mistake and the recording at 13 yrs should have been the one released. There was one word that was incorrect on the 11yr recording that was corrected on the later recording. The word was " weak " as in the line "weak words you whisper". The correct word as written according to Leann was "Sweet" which was updated in the later recording. Bottom line is Leann won a Grammy at 14 for the hit song she recorded at age 11. She is a massive powerful pitch perfect voice. A real talent!
In th 90's I was in the Music Industry, she sang this before her 13th birthday and actually wasn't released until she was 14 in which she won a Grammy an original. Check out her Official Video Cover, "The Story". She doesn't get the credit she deserves, a child prodigy, God Bless!
story I read is that a producer suggested this song to Leann's dad for her to sing. For whatever reason, he threw it in the waste basket, she saw it, pulled it out and looked at it, said she wanted to do it. Funny the way life turns some times on just every day actions
Great reaction Sir. I remember when this came out. Although beautiful, it was played so often on the radio I got really tired of it. I am glad it didn't ruin my desire to hear more from her. She is truly an awesome singer. Amazing such talent at so young an age. God Bless.
Leann was 13 when she recorded blue, it was intended for Patsy Cline but was left on her desk following her death, an agent spotted Leann and thought how similar in style to Patsy she was so gave her BLUE (also title of her first album) to record, it was a smash and led to a long career for Leann including an album covering mostly Patsy Cline songs, recently she has won the masked singer as well as 2 big film songs in can't fight the moonlight from Coyote ugly, and how do i live from con air. (Although it wasnt her version in the film it was Trisha Yearwood)
This angel was 14 when she released this masterpiece. Such a beautiful voice. This song was meant for patsy cline but she passed away before this and I think they found the perfect singer in this jewel from Texas!
it was never covered before LeAnn recorded it at 13. and yes it was written with Pasty Cline in mind But Pasty died before it could be given to her. So he waited as others said, until he heard heard her. Her father did not want her to record it. BTW she was 12 when it was given to her. She had been singing in competitions and venues since she was 5.
The story I heard was the song was written for Patsy Cline to record but she passed before she got to record the song. The song writer heard LeAnn Rimes sing the National Anthem at a baseball game and the rest is history.
LeeAnn had one of best voices in American music. Since you're dipping into the teenage singing prodigies pool, please consider reacting to Angelina Jordan--now 16 yo, but been singing in public since she was 6 yo. Won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 yo (!)
I think she was 13 at the time of this video. It was her first song. She was nominated for a music award ( can't remember which one) but she didn't attend..... it was a school night.
Way back when, 1994-95 we had a small manufacturing shop in Rowlette Texas. The shop was located in a mini business strip with maybe 8-10 units back to back. Her father had one of the units on the back side and down from ours. When I would work in the evenings she would practice over and over that classic voice tremor thing. For months and months. I think she was about 14 years old. Her hard work definitely paid off. I still remember those days whenever I hear Blue.....
Your reaction is just like everyone else's when this first came out. Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. As others have mentioned, she is the only one that can be classed with Patsy Cline. When first hearing this it took me to my knees. She found so much success and fame at such an early age that unfortunately took its toll in her personal life.
Amazing....Brooks n Dunn Neon Moon, The Judds Why Not Me, Brooks n Dunn Believe, Vince Gill Go Rest High On That Mountain (just noticed u done that one) are a few more that are just amazing
This was her first hit. I believe she was 14 years old. I remember that her voice was compared to Patsy Cline at the time. UPDATED: Looking at other comments it seems like I am wrong. I guess 13 years old. 😀
Glad you did this one. Wow! I had forgotten she was only 13!! 😳 Try this one: Carrie Underwood The People’s choice award in 2009 wearing a green dress singing “I know you won’t “live!
Recorded at 13. Grammy at 14. She was accused of infidelity after she was married and the double standard being what it is (has it ever seriously affected a male?) it sidelined her career. The closest analog I can think of for her early career is Tanya Tucker.
LeAnn is currently 40 years old, and she recorded "Blue" when she was 14. Its the one song that got her mainstream attention, and jump-started her career.
I think leann rimes was like 15 when this came out. Wow talk about dating a person I was either graduating high-school or married when it came out. They compared to Patsy Cline
Amazing reaction my friend...I have seen your reactions to Dimash, the best male singer of the world...But now I ask you: Have you seen the best female singer of the world?...The passion and dedication when Dimash is performing a song can only be compared with the person who has influenced him to sing leaving everything on stage: His idol, the queen, the incomparable Lara Fabian...Lara is the best female singer and performer of the world...She is a lyric soprano with a amazing vocal range and incredible breath control, which is one of the things that Dimash admires the most about Lara...She speaks 5 languages and sings like in 12 languages....That's why she is the inspiration for Dimash and several singers around the world...You can see on RU-vid covers of her songs made by singers of the stature of: Dimash, Floor Jansen, Diana Navarro, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, Katrina Velarde, Cakra Khan and others...Please react to her songs, all masterpieces, in LIVE versions, because Lara is more impressive when she sings live, so you can see why she is the idol of Dimash...Try to do it in this order and almost all songs are from the same Lara’s concert “From Lara With Love” in Montreal 1999, one of her best works: 1) Je Suis Malade (Singing in French)...2) Caruso (Singing in Italian)...3) Je T'AIME (2002 Live version in Paris Singing in French)...4) Perdere L'Amore (1999 Live version Singing in Italian)...5) Adagio (1999 Live version singing in english)...6) Broken Vow (1999 Live version singing in English)...7) You are Not From Here (1999 Live version singing in English)...8) Quédate (1999 Live version singing in Spanish)....9) Ti Amo Cosi (2019 Live version Singing a trío with Dimash and Aida Garifullina)....I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Lara...Here you have the link of her amazing performance of the song “Je Suis Malade”....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eHSyk4SGtuY.html
People often compare Rimes to Cline, but I wonder when they last had their ears cleaned. Cline has her own distinctive beautiful voice, and so does Rimes in her own great way, but they are completely utterly different.
She was 14 yrs old and this was her 1st hit. It was written for Patsy cline but patsy was killed in a plain crash before she was ever able to record it.
She was 14 when she recorded this music video for the song Blue in 1996 which was originally Patsy Cline's song in 1958, who was LeAnn's idol growing up and it's also said that Patsy Cline's voice reincarnated in LeAnn Rimes.
You should listen to Blue Moon of Kentucky and I Want to Be a Cowboys Sweetheart. She has one of THE BEST yodals, and cowboy sweetheart has bars of just straight up yodaling, and it's AMAZING!!!
The story goes that she was watching TV with her parents as a child and Patsy Cline came on singing "Blue". She told her parents, "I can sing that yodel".. Her parents took her challenge and she stunned them with a near exact yodel copy. the rest is history.
Another great female country artist is Trisha Yearwood, she is actually the wife of Garth Brooks. She has put out some amazing songs like "She's In Love With The Boy," "Walkaway Joe," and "XXX's and OOO's." She also has a duet with her husband called "Where Your Road Leads"
I can literally remember the first time I heard this. I’m pretty sure she was only 13 years old at the time. I remember there was some controversy over the maturity level of one or two of the songs she sang back then. I couldn’t believe that voice came from such a young girl. The same thing I thought when I first heard Tanya Tucker. Jewel is also a good yodeler. This link will take you to a video of her yodeling. She also briefly tells a couple of things about her unique childhood. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yWzeTfPHaCM.html
I really like that you're getting off the beaten road as far as country music reactions go. You should listen to Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. Both are Texas Legends
She's 13, here---14, when she won the Grammy for it; still, the youngest, ever, I think. This is the original---if you've heard it, whomever's was a cover. Willie Nelson wrote this song for Patsy Cline, but she died in a plane crash, on her way back to Nashville, and never got to record it.
No bill mack wrote this song in 1958.He recorded it but was not as successful as le ann.Willie and patsie had nothing to do with it.But patsie would have been great singing it.
I have a song suggestion...sorry, didn't know where to comment. I'm a computer novice. I think you would love the song, "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. So, so sweet and a great message as a Kenny song usually has.
