As a rotary owner it's pretty awesome that you and Rob Dahm are super open about the learning experiences with rotary's. Especially since the forums are super hush hush on a lot of things and quick to bashing when asking questions

If you’re having trouble with getting the bushings out and I mean this genuinely, torch them wear a respirator and do it in a well vented area but heat heat and more heat then wire wheel the surface with a little Dremel wheel slightly lubricate and press your new bushings in

It would be awesome if Rob Dahm chimed in on the rear rotor blow through, I have a feeling he might know of someone who’d be able to fix it

Appreciate you showing your mess ups. Mistakes are how you learn. For example, I learned yesterday to double check the gasket is seated on an oil filter. I also learned how to use laundry detergent to clean up oil spills… lol

Weld the hole shut and clean the weld surface area afterwards. The iron isn't warped, you can fix it. You're the DIY guy!

The fact that you only ruined 1 iron is pretty impressive IMO. Good work! Ready for the brap! Effectively, at least as I understand it, doing these ports is like adjusting the timing. So I think that the chamfer that you did is actually how it's supposed to be done. It'll still work because it's basically opening the exhaust port sooner.

I have a tip for you. Step one; apply tape to iron. Step Two; apply template. Step three; use exacto knife to "scribe" the tape. Step four; peal the tape from the inside, leaving the tape around the edges, then port. This way not only gives more protection, but also makes it way way way more visible. I personally use blue painters tape. Huge obvious line there. Makes life. Way way easier. Your welcome! Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast!

What was the point of a template if you can't port within the template? I think Tanner should create a new template based on your findings. Really cool project...I almost purchased a Series 3 FB back in the day but the title had a lein.

Tanner my man good job man I remember when I did my 13b porting it was so nerve wracking lol but I couldn’t tell on the video make sure you have a good bevel on the top of the ports so you don’t snag a side seal or corner seal it is cheap insurance.

The rear bushings that are inline.... threaded rod.... nuts.... bushings.... use them against each other the press/pull out using the right sized washers. Take the arm to hardware store to find right sizes to press against and plunge with. You're welcome homie.

You can fix that blow thru with some quick steel puddy. Also, did you bevel the closing edge of your ports? Without a bevel, the thin side seals on the rotor will catch the edge and break them when the side seal spring pushes them down when those seals slider over the enlarged open port. EDIT: That radial bearing is that pillow ball bushing I was telling you about last video.

try using electrical tape on the area where your grinding or sanding. its a little more forgiving in case you slip. just some tricks learned in the trade.

Take a look at Foredom rotary tools. I got mine from Otto Frei, I think they're up near u someplace. Anyhow they have several motors that hang from a stand and use a foot pedal to control speed. The model I have only turns 15000rpm but has torque which dremel doesnt and allows more control for porting plus has a reverse mode also. There are several hand pieces available in many styles allowing 3/32, 1/8 & 1/4 shanks. With the 1/4 shank you you can move away from your subject with a 6" or even cut down to length. There are so many options you will wonder why you never bought one before, far superior to dremel. Also they make a blue stone kit. If you check out Ken O'Connor Racing on you tube he does two stroke cyl head porting, he has this set up though doesnt use 1/4 shanks but offers a lot of useful tips plus the blue stones. They are light blue in color and can be found on Otto Frei's website.

Tig weld the port back up and start over. Have a spare rear iron then. 😅

It's just material to separate the air and coolant and especially since it's not a machined surface, just weld the hole up! 😆

16:23 burn them bushings off then very carefully cut the inside sleeve off of the control arm (if it has a sleeve)

Yeah you def want a camphor on your port. One of the reasons why I prefer semi peripheral over half bridge or full bridge is corner seal wear. The corner seal ride right where the bridge is ported at making those side seals wear out faster. You definitely want a camphor on your port. Help out that side seal a bit.

Dude, I had recommended to you to just go ahead and get the factory remanufactured Mazda 13b super cheap. That way you'd have the RX7 up and running in no time to figure out this rotary game. Now you just dropped $900 on an old rotor you didn't need. Who knows what the condition of that eBay rotor is going to be and if the face is even in the same condition as the second rotor. I really don't know why you're porting this motor when you're just getting into the rotary game. All of these older JDM cars: evos, STIs & the RX7s the parts are going to be drying up and not available...so you have to be serious when you decide to do something you have no clue what you're doing. If you insist on porting you should have just went to Atkins rotary not far from your house and had the pros do it up correctly. Also, I mentioned in the last video those white wheels have completely the wrong backspacing for the FD. The backspacing on the FDs need the wheels inside the wheel wells not outside the wheel wells. There is massive space in the FD wells to tuck in wide tires so you don't destroy the handling capabilities of their car. You do not need to roll the fenders either so if you end up doing that to make those wheels fit you just made another mistake. And also when you port those rotors the ports have to be properly beveled or you are going to prematurely destroy the apex seals. I was so pumped for this RX7 build and thought you were going to do it the right way, but now I am not.
