Funny dog story from the lunch bunch today. Sally had to take her German Shepard to the vet, a drive of about two miles. Dog got in the car just fine. Got to the vet, got his shots, dog refused to get back into the car. Sally's like 4'11" and was outweighed by the dog by about ten pounds. So the vet comes out to help her get the dog in the car. In the midst of all the kerfluffle, the vet accidentally pulls the dog's collar off. The only way Sally could get the dog home was to drive slowly down some back country roads and let the dog follow her. She had to stop several times to water the dog and let him rest. Took her about three hours to get home. As soon as she got out of the car, the dog jumped in the backseat for a nap. Hehee, wonder who wags the tail in that house!

15 minutes at the DMV? 15 minutes!?! Come to any New York City DMV, especially on a Monday, and after that experience, you would be willing to chop your own hands and feet off so that you can never drive again! LOL! Glad everything worked out for you :-)

I think this is worth mentioning...I like the way you go out and explore but at the same time you find work and take care of business. I have noticed that a lot of van dwellers focus on survival, comfort, and low profile yet no real purpose. I think to live out of a vehicle also should consist of a means to financially support yourself with money and a purpose as well. Great job!

Thanks for all the information. Have to figure a few things out for future like Medicare, medicaid, social security since I am senior and totally disabled. Stay safe and enjoy life.

Good to hear all your car registration, license and "formal" address is in order. Will you need to change your insurer since your no longer a CA resident? I would think that would be part of it. Best of luck!

Bard looks just like my little pittie girl Lacy except she is pure white and deaf. She was rescued right before she was going to be gassed in a shelter in southern Indiana. She is a senior now and the sweetest dog ever. I communicate with her using hand signals.

Any interesting places to do part time jobs over SD? That's kind of funny, you left San DIego (SD) and now you are in South Dakota (SD)! Good luck, I have subscribed for a while now, love your minimalist setup in that van, very appealing, but I would like to do with a built in shower and toilet, everything else looks perfect.

As life long South Dakotans my wife and I are perplexed as to why you’d choose South Dakota for your official place of residence but I guess I get it. I can see the appeal have I not been here for the past 33 years.

I live in rural Kansas. I walk into any govt entity and I am the only one there. No waiting. You guys need to get out of the city!

That requirement about coming back and residing in the state for real after you finish traveling sounds a bit sketchy. I know you said that you can travel indefinitely but that's not likely for most folks. Is there some sort of penalty if you do decide to take up residency in another state after you finish traveling? Also, how would they know if you're no longer traveling?

Is your mail forwarding address also in South Dakota? Mine is in Texas. Where I e lived for 40+ years. But I don't want to have to return every year for my inspection and tags. So I'm guessing I would have to switch mail forwarding services to a SD address? Are there other states that don't require inspections every year?

What kind of camera are you using?

How do you handle health insurance? My NJ drivers license and registration will expire in the coming year, if I renew my lic & reg in another state, I'll lose the health insurance. Any ideas? Thanks
