I mean he’s correct. Those shots curry takes are risky as opposed to easier looks. U become as great as these players are by exploiting rules, and taking those risks. And those risky plays become so efficient and effective for those players that they make them look like the norm. That’s greatness personified. Making the difficult stuff look like child’s play. Mike took risks on defense. But it worked so much for him that it became no longer a risk. But for anyone else not names mike, that’s a huge risk.

Michael Jordan is the best defensive Guard of all time. The fact that Jordan was so good at gambling had teams SHOOK to pass the ball along the perimeter and also had teams petrified to throw cross court passes. Jordan is the only basketball player I’ve ever seen lock down an entire side of the court. On some all time cornerback Deion Sanders type shit. Stats don’t show that. I don’t like how he didn’t point out the fact that’s Jordan was mostly successful in gambling to the point where teams were always aware of him with their own team was on offense. The guy in the video only focused on the few times he gambled and failed. There’s a reason Michael Jordan didn’t lose more than 2 games in a from 1990 to 1998.

This video is like muddy water. It uses scenarios that didn't occur often or weren't that big a deal to undercut the fact that not only was Jordan a great scorer, he stopped or negated almost half as many points as an average scorer would put up. Then it makes it sound like he was a fouling machine and that just wasn't the case. He was just excellent at anticipating moves and plays so naturally teams had to watch out for that and counter it sometimes. It makes every single thing seem as it happened separately and in a vacuum not in relation to each other and evolving like that Karl Malone steal from the finals. It wasn't a gamble. Jordan said that they literally ran the same play from the previous possession. This guy makes it sound like he's just out there doing random things.

The shortened 3 point line shot % is a little misleading. I thought he was talking about Jordans peak from 87-91. The 3 point line wasnt shortened until 94-95. In the 91 finals and Jordan shot 50% from 3 in that series. So its a bit missleading because Jordan proved he can shoot the 3 when it matters most before the shortened line, and in other playoffs series shooting over 40%. People bring up the shortened line to make it seem like the league was helping Jordan. Yes they may have done it to help the league as a whole, but not specifically for Jordan. Jordan himself already proved he can shoot the 3, so why would they need to shorten it for Jordan to help him, when he already proved he can win without a shortened 3 point line, it was mainly for to incentivise more 3's from the league as a whole. Yes the shortned 3 point line happened, but to me Jordan is a 31-34% three point shooter in the regular season, and in the playoffs he can bring it up to 35-45% in the playoffs, regardless of the line distance. But yea, nice reaction bro
@FloatingKites2422

There are some statistical inaccuracies but overall the video is good. Seems that he just watched the 1989-1991 games for this video. If you average both seasons (considered his peak) he averages 34% from three. The gambling with guarding Magic Johnson wasnt an issue either. Magic Johnson averaged 18 points at like 42% shooting that series. Magic Johnson isnt really a dedicated scorer or great shooter so its just 1 game where Magic happened to score more than usual.

Many people point this out. High free throw rates negate Jordan's lack of 3-pointers being a weakness. Steph Curry doesnt have 13 free throw attempts per game. So Jordan late game can rack up alot of points during clutch. Thats sort of what midrange masters did. They leap to the basketball hoop while shooting, giving defenders the tough choice of risking a foul by contesting the sudden layup or getting out of the way and allowing an easy points

Good video but minor errors. Jordan's peak 3-point shooting was 37% in 1989-1990. And 38.9% during the 1991-1993 playoffs. When the 3-point line was moved closer, Jordan shot 50% from 3-point range in 1995, 42% in 1996, then 38% in 1997. 1998 was when MJ struggled again from 3-point. But, Jordan did not really attempt threes unless it was the end of the quarter and he was tossing the ball up from across the court

@Queztheplug One thing I never understood is why does the 3 ball even matter when he has the HIGHEST SCORING AVG in NBA History?? Let this sink in, Stephen Curry is the greatest 3pt shooter in NBA History, yet he is #34 on the All-time scoring list😮. He has made more 3's than ANYONE, but is 34th in total points. Jordan has the highest scoring avg ever regular season and playoffs, for the video to mention the 3 ball as a weakness is irrelevant. He didn't need it, and it didn't hurt his team or his overall effectiveness or efficiency. To me, it's a mute point. Another thing I didn't like is how he pointed out that Jordan gambled on defense, but never mentioned that he won the steals title 3 times, and is # 4 All-time in total steals. What you are seeing in this video is the result of how fundamentally sound Jordan is. That is why he always squared up even when he knew he was going to be fouled. He wanted to make you pay for hitting him. You couldn't make mistakes while defending against Jordan, he'd make you pay. Any mistake you made against him, he would capitalize. You could not defeat him after he got the first Chip, no matter what you did. I watched game footage on this dude when I was playing competitive B-Ball, being a pro prospect. I watched as though I was preparing to guard Jordan, he was a nightmare to prepare for. From what I saw... Jordan had no weaknesses by his 3rd year in the league. When he was drafted they said he couldn't shoot, he worked and made that a strength. By 1988 he was shooting 38% from 3-point range in the playoffs. Jordan could should the 3 when he wanted to. All they could try was hitting him (Bad Boy Pistons) when he came down the lane, just pissed him off and Jordan would go even harder. He averaged 37ppg in the regular season against the Detroit Pistons.

If there is confusion in the comments, its because the 1989-1991 was used to represent Jordan's entire career. Thats not bad since thats 2 out of MJ's 4 peak seasons.m(1987-1991)
@BT405
@BT405 6 месяцев назад
he never said it represents his entire career, the whole point of the video is evaluating his peak, which based on their research was between '89-91. He has even said he thinks Jordan was a more valuable defender later in his career, but his sheer offensive arsenal wasn't as prolific as these years so this by his account should be considered his overall peak as a player

not sure if there’s another two-way player that scored at volume the way MJ did… So his ability to do multiple things on the court while still holding scores under their average, isn’t only elite level, but it’s what adds to the legacy of him being the GOAT

Jordan s ankles AND knees were made of rubber...if "you" are a "rim defense" center like Hakeem or David Robinson, he knows how to get the ball by you...clean... If you're a 6'10" PF like Bird, he knew how to buckle your forward motion, and would simply step around you...

you mention the drinking and cigar smoking. not sure how much cigars affect someone. if i remember right you're not suppose to inhail the cigar smoke. just puff it in your mouth for the flavor. someone correct me if i'm wrong please. Either he was different. Reminds me of arguably the greatest MMA fighter ever who was a heavy drinking and cigarette smoker (2packs a day or more). In the greatest athletic feet I've ever seen. He fought undefeated Royce Gracie in an hour and half long match and forced him to throw in the towel. It was Royce's first loss ever, the winner of 3 UFC tournaments. They were in the first Pride FC Grand Prix (tournament). Everyone thought he would bow out of the 2nd round fight against no. 1 HW Igor Vovchachyn, who actually had his first round fight first on the card, so he was able to rest up. Sakuraba came out and fought Igor to a Draw in regulation. He dominated the first 10 minutes of the 15 minute match, then gassed and took a lil beating, leading to the draw. Sakuraba was too exhausted to do an overtime round having fought 105 minutes in that night and giving up 50lbs to Igor. I've still never seen anything like it.

11:43 Jerry Krause the GM put Phil Jackson on the head coach's staff four years prior. The head coach was Doug Collins. Jackson was ready to take his job and did so in 1989. His first year as head coach the Bulls lost the Eastern Conference Championship in 7 games with Scottie Pippen unable to play well because of a migraine (Pippen shot 1 for 10).

@@mannyneva1760 From what I read about Collins is that the man was too high strung and put all of his energy into coaching and that it had an adverse effect on his health. He was not even keeled. When the won he was elated but losses deeply affected him. He did not have the right temperament to coach. And Krause knew that. That is why, after Jackson won a championship coaching in Puerto Rico, Krause placed him on Collins's staff.

That video sounded crazy because he said Jordan was bad at shooting 3s at 34% but that was the league average then he said his defense was bad because he gambled but those gamble gave him a defensive player of the year I guess I couldn't understand it so I guess it was a good take

after watching these series, it REINFORCED what I already knew (with some clarity). Mike was athletically gifted. Bird was intellectually gifted. BOTH had great fundies. few weaknesses. The other series are great too.

Mike was far more than just athletically gifted. Let’s not do the black guy athletic but white guy smart routine. Mike was just as intelligent. He just could rely more on the athleticism when read bird couldn’t so he had to showcase his skillset more. Two players of equal intelligence that just used their gifts differently.

Jordan’s weakness? His desire to win at all costs. In their primes, Jordan is better. 6 finals. 6 championships. True leader. In a time where if there was no blood or a bodies flying there was no foul, he had to be quick to create. Was lucky enough to watch his whole career. It was one of a kind.

Jordan shot 37% from three point range in 1989-1990 season. 38% in each of the 1991-1993 playoffs, and 40% during the 1993 NBA finals. That may of been via Phil Jackson's instruction to shoot from 3-point range in 1993

Gambling = strategy, as can be seen when coaches make player changes in basketball, bring in a relief pitcher in baseball, and elect to go for it on 4th down in football. How many coaches/players gambled and lost? Too many; just ask Russ Wilson and Pete Carroll. Sometimes, though, it pays to gamble. Aaron Rodgers and Pat Mahomes are epic gamblers (running with the ball/throwing I’ll-advised passes) and they have 3 SB victories between them.

Jordan’s three point percentage of 34% wasn’t really a “weakness” since the league average was also ~34%. So, he was an average three point shooter for his era. The weakest part of his game perhaps but not a ‘weakness’.

Curry, Jordan, Bird, KG and Shaq. Thats my starting 5. ONLY Jordan is ball dominant and EVEN HE moved well without the ball. the oTHER 4 guys I have here are mASTERS of movement WITHOUT the ball AND can iso as well. bird and curry the primary playmakers AND shooters, (jordan and KG AND Shaq can playmake as well) Jordan is my 1st option, Shaq 2nd, Bird 3rd.. Curry to stretch the floor (Bird too) KG to be a defensive safety and roam the court on the defensive end (Bird and even Jordan did this too) to cover up Shaq's deficiencies defending outside of the paint, and Curry and Bird's spotty man defense. Shaq clogs the paint. I dont want ball stoppers on my team, they dont always mesh with other great scorers. if Im guna have ONE ball dominant player, then that has to be Jordan. the OTHER 4 guys HAVE to work OFF ball IN MY lineup.

Stop saying because of the age of LeBron, he is excused! Stop playing if your to old. How many 💵he gets for playing the game? Watch a game and look at your player and be real. He's not the great one he was at his start. He is a great athlete, but you have to stop behave like that and just watch the highlights where the media is lifting him up. There are many great players and LeBron is one of them❤. But the present time should tell you he had his time. He can only make his greatness look bad. He has accomplished so much👍and can not get better anymore. I would like to see jr getting great! We should enjoy the game, it's a team sport, instead of praising bad behavior. And i'm not talking about one player, but the game and how it's played today. Big❤for all LeBron fans.
