Thanks for the Presence album reaction. Still a favorite of mine since it's release in 1976 when I was in the 6th grade! The songs on their albums vary so much, upon the first listen, you just never know what you're going to get. I remember hearing some of them for the first time and thinking, "What were they thinking?" but after that first listen, it just grows on you and some of those songs end up being the ones you like the most because they are so different. Zeppelin is one of those bands that I still listen to on a daily basis, without fail.

For the best band of all time its a Stormer. Its a guitar-driven rock album of the finest quality. Page's production on this is superb, with his guitar tone deliberately hard on the ears. Someone said that Presence sounds like Page was playing a guitar made of metal. As usual, Bonham's beats on this album are unsurpassed; hard, driving, ferocious. 1976 for Zeppelin fans gave us 2 album releases and a movie. Happy memories indeed - presence remains my favourite album of all time.

Yeah, it’s Plant on the. harmonica. He is really good on it. I love the pauses on Nobody’s Fault. I agree this is Bonzo’s album. I know what you’re saying about the timing and tempo. They once asked JPJ why they did the two different time signatures in Black Dog, and his answer was “Because we can”. They are always pushing the envelope and then they will do something like “ Boogie with Stu”. And to think this album was recorded from a wheelchair and crutches by Robert. He said he was on crutches and started to fall over, and Jimmy just tossed his guitar and caught Robert before he could take the fall. His wife (Maureen) was so badly injured, her friends started calling her “Morphine” she was on so much pain medicine.

Dude, It's so satisfying to a lot of us Zep Heads to see your irrepressible smiles and laughter at key moments during these beloved songs by our favorite group! We're like: "Yes! He gets it, lol!" (I'm assuming others are like me here, anyhow!) I totally agree with the Bonham Mania here, especially Achilles, and I don't know, but it seems like Page was sort of "laying back" on this album in terms of trying to go for a deeper MUSICAL exploration, to make more interesting solos, not just the pyrotechnics of the past. (Altho on "Nobody's..." and "For YOur Life," he shreds quite damn capably, no?) Now, for SURE he's done this--playing both types of solos--all thru his career (Misty Mountain Hop's solo, for example, isn't "a shredder," but it works VERY well for the song--I would also argue that Joe Perry of Aerosmith did this slower sizzle on the solo for "Livin' on the Edge") , but maybe more on this album. You will hear the apex of this on the next and last song, "Tea For One," which has some of the most GORGEOUS notes Jimmy's ever picked!

All this and the most succinct description of the drinking of tea that you're ever likely to hear. Zeppelin recorded PRESENCE immediately before the Stones used the same studio to record their BLACK AND BLUE album. It's no coincidence that both were the best sounding albums of each band's career. Musicland Studios, Munich.

Harmonica in Nobody's Fault But Mine going qually with the guitar and the drums..such a wonderful tune! This album in my opinion is a very mature album. They were developing with each album.Robert Plant's voice not so raw as on PG but still great-different tunes. He could create different sounds❤️Jimmy's guitar so very metal on this album. They all sound together here perfectly!!! This one and PG are my favourite albums❤️

LZ I came out January '69 and LZ II came out I think in October '69. Presence came out May (?) '76 and then "The Song Remains the Same" movie and soundtrack was released later in '76.

You're right about Candy Store Rock. They were going for a kind of funked up rockabilly, i think i read somewhere. 👍 "Bonham's Greatest Hits" is awesome! 🤣

Nobody's Fault But Mine takes a nod from Blind Willie Johnson. The stutter start/stop definitely smacks you in the face. Candy Store Rock is a fun rockabilly song and has a combination of Elvis, Eddie Cochran, and Gene Vincent. Robert cobbled the lyrics together from a bunch of half remembered Elvis songs. Hots On For Nowhere is Robert giving voice to his dissatisfaction with the group - Jimmy and manager Peter Grant, specifically. They pushed for the band to get back to work after Robert's accident and he felt they weren't taking the situation and Robert's changing musical viewpoint seriously. If you read the lyrics, you'll see what I mean.

It's funny how people view this album because you for instance think Jimmy Page is laid back on this album whereas I tend to think this is a real guitar album and his playing is all out rocking and wild and brilliant and you don't notice it as much as I do, but then again I tend to really listen to all the layers of guitar playing he is doing upfront and in the background

Robert's accident caused them to cancel tour dates so they spent more time at home and in the studio. The album name came from them feeling more present and I think it shows.

Candy Store Rock, I have read before, evolved out of live improvisations during "Over The Hills And Far Away."

Funny you keep talking about Robert's vocals. He suffered a pretty serious head injury in a car accident and the band was worried about his future. I believe he recorded this from a wheelchair.

As you listen to Presence over time you will come to realize just how brilliant Pages guitar work is on the album. At first listen Page may seem more reserved but it's the R & B and Funk style he uses in much of the album. Those styles are more rhythmic than heavy and more nuanced and detailed than he plays on any other album. The grooves Page puts down are catalyst for Bonham to kill it on every track. Pages guitar work on Presence isn't as heavy or flashy as other albums but his funky grooves allow Bonham, JPJ and Plant to really shine. It may be my favorite album because of the guitar work. I get what you are saying but over time you will come to realize how sneaky brilliant Page's playing is on Presence.

Page was probably chill on this album because he was struggling with a heroin addiction, and even the next album where JPJ takes more of the center stage
