I like JPJs humble attitude and how he made sure to give credit to their manager, Peter Grant. I read the biography of Peter Grant about his Led Zeppelin days, and it was great. For the whole 12 years, there was never a formal agreement with him, only a gentleman's agreement, plus Peter paved the way for all bands to get WAY more money from concerts and he did so much more, too.
Robert Plant wrote the lyrics to some of the greatest songs in history, He wrote lyrics to the most played song ever Stairway to Heaven. Robert Plant was and still is amazing.
Yep, I agree. You could never have replaced JP Jones. He not only provided outstanding, grooving, and rocking bass, but keyboards, and great mandolin playing. A true jack of all trades he is, and by no means was he replaceable.
greatest band in the history of music. so diverse, so eclectic, so skilled at every position within the band. each song is a magical journey which changes your life a different time every time you hear it.
HOW NICE WAS THAT !!!! loved plant showing jonsey & all of us THAT all is well between them, jonsey heard him reference him twice in his speach , VERY AWSOME seeing this means alot to me THANKYOU tonicfan
3:44 Robert Plant had no idea JPJ was going to give an amazing speach there, he is so true and I've found him very underestimated because he is one of if not the best bass player ever.
The "British Invasion" like you could never imagine.Led Zeppelin will never be topped.I wish I grew up in England...Page greatest guitarist ever. Plant greatest vocalist..I stayed up all night in Philadelphia, waiting for my tickets...Sold Out Always. I have seen a lot of concerts since but none like that...
This band is the greatest qaurtet or even the best ever conglomeration of musicians that will ever ever be. Their music will be forever never be forgotten as the greatest band ever created. PLEASE PLEASE DO A TOUR!
I think it's the music that keeps them goin...forever ,I like when Robert says the music "I admire".You are the greatest ever.. I would die if I had to listen to Barry Manilow & Roy Clark,,. The music may change but "The Song Remains the Same...#1fan
im honored to have watched this from my laptop!!!!!! These guys did ALOT more than contribute to Americas music, they defined our music and ROCK N ROLL. Forever in my heart u guyz! muah muah xoxo
Robert was always very verbal, talking about their influences, their dreams, their relationship with each other, yadda yadda, then John Paul's like thanks for remembering my phone number, hilarious! Love it!
Page and Plant had just done a collaboration with a bunch of Zep songs in the repertoire, and even went so far as to name it "No Quarter." It was a big deal that the old Zep guys were getting back together. They didn't invite Jones. So he was basically saying "fuck you."
With the 60's explosion both were in demand session players in the music business. Page & Jones even said in an interview, they did so many sessions that they would not remember how many songs they've played on. They were very busy young lads!!
Led Zeppelin will go down in History as "The Greatest Rock Band Of All Time"! They were Hall of Famers back when Bonham was still alive. There Will Never, Nor Will There Ever Be, another Led Zeppelin. This is the only Rock Band I know of that sells a million + CD's "of 1 album" every year that are no longer touring, and they aren't even actively making new songs. Zep's music has been an inspiration to us all. Long Live The Gods Of Rock 'n Roll. "THE BEST EVER"
Robert Plant mentions my name (ALPHONSE MOUZON) at 2:10 since I was one of Led Zeppelin's influences via their great drummer John Bonham. John used to listen to my funk and fusion records and to me live with my Jazz-Rock Fusion band with guitarist Larry Coryell called The Eleventh House. RIP John Bonham.
I don't think Plant's comment was meant to diss British invasion groups or even Herman's Hermits, but a quick, effective way to make a dig at Jones implying that the music that he has done since and probably before Led Zeppelin was corny and insignificant. Jones gave it right back to him.
Typical responses: Robert: Typically too much talking and name dropping, Jimmy: quiet, short and sweet, JPJ: smart and justifiably snarky, Jason: respectful.
Jason looked so much like papa John here that I sank back in my chair in shock! Robert is always a man of many words, which is one of the things I love about him -- that he is a talker! Jason is usually a talker ... though John was a man of few words. Jimmy says very little, but says much with few words -- and he's a sweetheart. As for JPJ; well, this is probably the most I have ever heard that man speak! On every one of the four men, their English inflection is different.
Four different feet in four different mouths all in the same four minutes:). God bless the Zepmeisters! Their B-sides are better than 99%of most other bands A-sides,thanks,Zoso's!
@TheRealCritique he couldnt be replaced within led zeppelin, he was the only composer within the group he was the one within the group who understood everything about the way a song should be build. without JPJ all the songs of led zeppelin would be totally different or wouldnt exist at all. they all were irreplacable, but especially Jimmy and JPJ since they formed the backbone for every song they made
Is it any wonder that after Page and Plant snubbed Jones for their little Page/Plant tour, and that Plant threw daggers right at the start of his speech, making fun of Herman's Hermits and saying that Jones played for them, that Jones would throw a good one right back? Bravo, John Paul!
WORD (it was a GREAT dig..and WELL deserved - I read it was Plant who had issue with JPJ? Page was unfortunately forced to go along with it - excluding JPJ - because he [Page] SO desired to tour performing his masterpiece Zeppelin material again) It was also very CLASSY of JPJ to remember the critical FIFTH member of the band, Peter Grant... who's contibution to Zep's enourmous fame, and mamoth wealth, is oft overlooked, and very under estimated.
very CLASSY of JPJ to posthumously give the all important FIFTH member, Peter Grant , his well deserved props / respect. Without whom Zeppelin would never had made nearly as much money, and if not for his tireless work in the beginning, booking hundreds of shows in the crucial 1st 2 1/2 yrs (since they had the integrity to not release 'singles') they might not have even achieved as much fame. Grant secured the deal with Atlantic in Nov'68, who unprecedentedly gave Zep COMPLETE artistic control!
Robert: -Shit Jimmy, what´s he doing? Jimmy: -That jerk. He´s the bass-player, he should not be able to speak. JPJ, you made my day! Payback´s a bitch!
@TheRealCritique He wasn't replaceable! He did play a mean bass and keyboards, But I think He did a lot of songwriting. And he had a way of drawing the music together so tightly that just made it Zeppelin! Cheers to John Paul Jones!
the whole form of american music was and impression and important to all of us!!! THANK YOU MR. ROBERT PLANT!!! In the words of a former president " America has no greater friend than the country of Britain" while Tony Blair sat in a balcony.
@LittleElf101 February of 1995!! I had my VCR on because one of my attorneys (Robert Lind) told me that his sister back east had heard Led Zeppelin on TV mentioning my name and called him in Los Angeles to tell me to tape Led Zeppelins Hall of Fame Induction Speech.
Terry was Pagey's first choice for the vocalist but he was already signed to tour with the Stones. He told PJ to check out this unknown singer from Birmingham, one Mr.Plant, and also highly recommended Bonzo.
Love the comment by John Paul almost as much as the quick exchange between Jimmy and Robert after. Something along the lines of ..."that right nasty bastard..." "...right...keep smiling...we'll turf him afterwards..." :)
Talk about lucky! I'm in my 30's and can only wish to have seen them live. Whenever I watch Song Remains the Same, I imagine myself being in the audience, wishing I were actually there. Sigh...
I think every Zep Fan Respects JPJ. He is a great musician and remember he wrote almost everything on In through the out door. Page was on drugs, Plant was out of it, and JB was drunk.
Wow I was so Stoke when my band FINALLY got their long overdue HALL OF FAME recognition. My my daughter was born 1- or 2mos. prior to going down in HISTORY. I was in tears! Having that said, it was written LZ would go down more paths to meet the merits. aka: ZephelenM
Well said. Just look how psyched Dave Grohl was to have Page and Jones play with Foo Fighters at Wembley. Also I read in Rolling Stone magazine, a quote by filmmaker David Guggenheim that when Jack White and David Evans were filming "It Might Get Loud" with Jimmy Page that when Jimmy started playing the chords to "Rock N Roll" that Jack and David marked out. And look at who Plant's influenced: Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, and even Freddie Mercury!
I believe JPJ wrote the bass line for Black Dog---and then Jimmy followed....I agree with your thoughts on JPJ---amazing...and not recognized for all of his efforts....
(...cont.from below..) to THIS day it is STILL extremely rare for new bands to secure a major recording company deal with FULL artistic control, right up PRODUCING (which Page did from the onset). Furthermore...Grant was one of the very first managers that knew how to make a band money, and actually LET THEM KEEP IT.
Let's get it right!! John Paul Jones played on the sessions for Hermans Hermits; he was NOT in the band!! Both Page & Jones were seasoned session players and played on many songs throughout the 60's, including The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Donavan, Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, etc.
I gotta walk, can't stand still, Got a flamin' heart, can't get my fill, Eyes that shine burning red, Dreams of you all through my head. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah AAAAAAAAAAAH!
Two magazines announced yesterday that Robert will be touring with the rest of the band next summer. He is not being replaced, and I don't think that you are in a place to insult Allison Krauss.
Awesome what Robert says of being a part of the late 60's/early 70's ARTICULATE music scene, and the influences that shaped it. At 40, I haven't seen that music outdone yet. The old farts, stones, zep can still put on shows that smoke what we have today, and they are old enough to get senior discounts on meals and Hotel stays. (What happened to real rock n roll) ?????????
plant has such a way with words. also if anyone can lip read what plant+page said after JPJs remark about his phone no. that'd be amusing :o when you talk about Led Zep JPJ is always the last to be mentioned but he really shouldn't be. they are all as great on the instruments they play as eachother
@cowboysfan782008 "Book Of Dreams" is an awesome album. I love every song. As for John Paul Jones, I'm proud of him. Glad he spoke up in his defense. Good for him!
