Skyward link is the most expressive and relatable link ever made. I really wish they would bring back some of this expressiveness in his newer iterations. I liked botw/Totk, but story wise they really *really* don't come anywhere close to this game at all. Or tp, or ww, or any other 3d Zelda.
I feel like skyward sword link and wind waker link had the best personalities because they were given the best story for it to shine through. Both are about humble and flawed kids going on an adventure and maturing into great heroes. WW is even more interesting since he does not possess the spirit of the hero: he is forging his own heroism from scratch just like the original link in skyward sword, so both feel more “human” compared to the stoic links.
Jazzy Cat some of the comments say that in the japanese version of link's adventure log (botw of course) He says "I must rescuse the princess, for i wish to see her smile once again."
>"i'm still your zelda" >"when all this is over... will you come wake me up?" >link banging on the seal > *link crying* SHUT UP I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING
"To face Demise, and give the land hope, the goddess, Hylia, needed someone with an unbreakable soirit. That someone is you, Link." "But spirit alone wasn't enough. You had to overcome many trials and awaken the hero within yourself so that you could wield that supreme power." "And so Hylia... I mean, and so I... I knew that if it meant saving Zelda, you would throw yourself headfirst into any danger, without a moment's doubt..." "I... I used you..." "I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for pulling you into all of this Link." "But you have to understand thar this is a war, and the fate if the land hangs in the balance. I need your strength to tio the scales in our favor..." "That may be well intentioned and true, but it doesn't mean it's right... and it doesn't excuse my actions." The goddess had planned this entire ordeal since the start and it was unfortunate that the people that would be involved would be Link and Zelda. They were dragged into this by hands of destiny. The title of "Chosen Hero of the Goddess" is a curse.
@@aletanook excuse me.what? how is link clingy towards zelda and sees her as a mom? how is it clingy when litteraly the game starts with link trying to save his childhood friend/crush from falling and I'm pretty sure theres major points that link sees zelda in a romantic way and not in a motherly figure.care to explain why?
@@foureyedog Link is clingy because his ass stayed on the surface with zelda, it's not too far away from the sky why he couldn't he stay there? What would happen if he stayed there? He can still see her anytime. He always spends time with her, evident from the beginning and implied by Groose that he can barely spend time away from zelda. If he spends an hour away from Zelda, the bitch probably would go crazy. That's how a bratty child would act with his mom. He's so clingy he thinks that needing to wake her up is such a tearjerker and it's not that sad,
@@aletanook how does your explaination prove that link will go insane without zelda if the whole 75% of the game has him alone with fi.also,if you mean by the cutscenes when he is finally reunited with her, shows off that 'bratty kid with his mom',it doesnt. in every cutscene with him and zelda, link doesnt show off any 'clingy' traits, nor any indication he has a heavy obsession for her.its 2 people who are long time friends who deeply care for each other with love blooming quietly.this specific cutscene is a tearjerker because you can feel link's heart being snapped in half as he watched zelda sacrificing herself to keep the imprisoned at bay.he never see her as the goddess,he sees her as a normal girl with the name zelda.
"So I'm going to ask you a favor, sleepyhead. Ever since we were kids, I'd always be the one to wake you up when you slept in. But this time, when all of this is over, will you come to wake me up?" Those last words from Zelda were so strong... never expected to read something like that in the game, couldn't hold myself....
this game is so important for this very reason, most of the Zelda games revolve around link saving a weird girl he just met for the sake of fate, or whatever. in skyward sword, where he's still fated to be a part of it, only did this to save his best friend
Say what you want about Link and Zelda's relationship; whether it's romantic or not, they still care about each other more than anything. They are a huge fucking deal to each other.
WalrusEternal Link and Zelda are the perfect match. It's way more than a princess and her knight. They are ABSOLUTLEY perfect 👌 I seriously hope they end up together some day...
This is my number one favorite moment in The Legend of Zelda franchise when Zelda seals herself away for one thousand years in the Skyward Sword because what she said struck me enough to cry: "While its true that I am Hylia reborn, I am still my father's daughter and your friend...I am still your Zelda." The fact this is the prequel of all the Zelda games shows how much Zelda loves Link and knowing the two can never settle down and have a life together without Ganondorf, or whatever evil threat is excruciatingly heart wrenching...
+Joe Balaich Man, I never actually thought of it like that. That actually makes so much sense, and this really does prove that Nintendo can make great stories.
11:34 is the moment Link's heart ripped in half, because he knows that Zelda will remain asleep for eternity unless he defeats Demise, and he's beginning to wonder if he's even prepared for this. I mean, a few days ago, he was just a kid from Skyloft, with not a care in the world, and now he's been forced to watch as his childhood friend seals herself away in order to prevent Armageddon, her last words to him being a secret message that could only say "the fate of the world rests in your hands, and I'll come back to you if you're successful in defeating Demise." I can only imagine how much pressure is on Link at this point...
We see Link on the other side of the amber crystal for a few seconds there. This is Zelda's perspective. Do you think she was conscious at all during her sealing slumber? BOTW implies she was fully conscious for 100 years fighting Ganon from the inside.
What really makes this scene so tear jerking is that, in this game, the relationship between Link and Zelda is... completely ordinary. They start the game as regular teens who have been friends since childhood. There are obviously deeper feelings flourishing, but this is really to be expected, and it is nothing but cute and relatable. Even without the teasing moments, it is clear that these two will always be there for each other, romantically or platonically. Link's sole motivation up to this scene has been to reunite with his life-long friend. The game does such a great job of making me care about these two. I know that in-game, you can take all the time you want. But story-wise, when Link goes to the Surface for the first time to search for Zelda, he is only a few hours - or minutes - behind her. I can't enjoy the new environments, I can't really appreciate the goofy sidequests. All I can think is: "The more we stop and talk to people, the more we go back to Skyloft, the more ahead of us Zelda gets. She was just here. Let's get going!" When we enter Skyview Temple, Zelda is just at the other end. When Ghirahim fights us, she is just on the other side of the door. And when we finally go through that door, she has just left. It almost feels meta when Link finally catches up with Zelda, and Impa forbids them from reuniting, chastising Link for "taking too long". The further into the story we go, the more distant the beginning of the game seems. Zelda's lines in this scene likewise feel rather meta: She's essentially saying that, as much as she wishes it wasn't the case, their innocent lives on Skyloft are over, thanks to destiny.
when Link cries.....everyone cries..... when Link sad ....adorable.....feels......but this moment......i agree Link is like heart....broken....its to sad for words.....D:
Ana Unicornio Nah.... Twilight princess still > Skyward Sword in pretty much everything. You’re opinion isn’t a very popular one I’m sorry to tell you :/
Mingi Hong if SS didn’t have obnoxious motion controls it’d be one thing...but SS’s vibe and esthetic will never match/compare to Twilight Princess’, it’s just far beyond the majority simply because of the emotion and intensity revolving around it. Not gonna lie though summoning lightning with the master sword in the last fight is hands down one of the coolest things I’ve seen.
@@rekzuh Discovering the lightning mechanic in the final boss was incredible. I hadn't figured it out on my initial playthrough and died dozens of times to Demise, doing my best to work around the lightning attacks (and eventually succeeding!) A friend told me about the lightning later and things suddenly made much more sense.
6:00 Link's face! I saw his face in a meme so many times! I never imagined that it was during this sad part! Now I can't watch this scene without laughing... =(
This seriously has to be one of the most best emotionally tugging moments in the Zelda series! I am a guy. I have played many different genre's of video games that I felt at this point that games couldn't really get a hold of my emotions. How wrong I was! I was like nahh i'm not about to cry..I..Just..(goes and smashes entire tub of icecream)
Pretty much my exact reaction. My inner dialogue: 'Am I really about to cry?' 'Yes, yes you are.' 'But I'm a MAN.' 'Not anymore you're not.' This actually might be one of the more emotional moments I've seen in any game.
And because of this game, oot zelda finding Link's name somehow familar hits harder. Before I had assumed her dreams showed and told her who he was but that she didn't consciously remember.
I really enjoy how many of the games have at least one scene where Zelda and Link talk alone with Zelda's theme playing... in these scenes they are not just the princess and hero. They embrace the fact that they are also care for each other. Ocarina of Time: end of game, when Zelda sends Link back in time Wind Waker: after Tetra is revealed to be Zelda Twilight Princess: When Zelda grants the light arrows to Link And this scene
Zelda games are full of love... just usualy not in a romantic way. I mean, heck, he travelled hostile lands and risked his life countless times just to bring her home safely, what is that if not love?
This scene almost brought me to tears. I think the Zelda/Link relationship is one thing that Skyward Sword did better than any other game in the franchise.
I seriously started to silently sob when I was watching this...the whole reference to when they were kids and she always had to wake him up and now will he wake her up plot element was just too much. Such an emotional and beautiful scene...
This game has it's flaws like any other game, some may think it has more then others but I still love this its cinematic story and for this entire cutscene. *sniffle* Whoever is cutting those onions, you better knock it off. *sniffle*
Honestly, the fact that Zelda is revealing the full truth about who she is and what she did shows how much she truly loves Link. It would’ve been so easy to just say that she needs to seal herself away or just about Hylia, but she valued and loved Link enough that she was willing to risk their friendship and his trust in her just so he could have the chance to do this because he wants.
Me too, i can't stop watching this cutscene and f*cking cry every time i repeat it :'( , when i played it on my wii.....GOD! I cried seeing link's sad face :'( :'( :'( , this cutscene is so beautyfull and sad:c .
'Before all this, I was happy just spending my days hanging around with you in Skyloft. I wanted that feeling last forever. While it's true that I am Hylia reborn, I'm still my father's daughter and your friend ... I'm still your Zelda. So I'm going to ask you a favor, sleepyhead. Ever since we were kids, I'd always be the one to wake you up when you slept in. But now, when all of this is over, will you come to wake me up ?' '... I promise.' TT^TT
I just reached this part of the game last night. I had to watch this scene again. It's so beautifully done. The dialogue, the melancholy rendition of "Zelda's Lullabye," Zelda's sad face, Link's bewildered looks through pretty much all of her story...and then his anguish when he finds out what she intends to do. "I am still your Zelda." [Sniff] This game is some of Nintendo's finest work in all respects, and I think the best story telling I've ever seen in a Zelda game.
I think this is the only Zelda game where the romance between Link and Zelda is written all over the damn wall. Good god Nintendo just MAKE IT OFFICIAL ALREADY
So many amazing moments within this cutscene. Zelda being sealed, the creation of the True Master Sword, the look on Link's face when he realizes that she's sealed..
I was trying to remember the exact moment I teared up when first playing this, and then right on cue, it still happens, at 'I'd always be the one to...', maybe just because you know what's coming next. I don't think any cutscene has ever made me choke up like this, really says something about how much effort they put into crafting Zelda games.
This scene no matter how many times I play it, it always makes me cry when Link starts running up to Zelda and tries to break the crystal as Zelda starts to seal herself inside and Link’s facial expression afterwards is heartbreaking
I have never come so close to crying for a fictional work than I have on this game. Between this scene and Fi's farewell, it's a wonder I didn't bawl my eyes out. This was the first Zelda game I ever beat and because of that this game will forever be the greatest Zelda game in my eyes. (Even though Breath of the Wild was lit as fuck.)
Goodness, Link's eyes are really wide at 5:57 to 6:28. I cried when Zelda went into her deep sleep. Seeing Link cry broke my heart. Such an emotional scene. =(
Oddly enough, the last game to not have voice acting has arguably the best story and most definitely the best "scene" in Zelda history. Even the dialogue is undeniably pretty good.
As great as breath of the wild is I'm kinda disappointed that they made link so bland in that game. Link is so full of emotion in this game it makes me appreciate it even more.
@@shotgun6X however unlike the other Zelda games, I feel Link's lack of emotions was explained more realistically in BOTW through Zelda and Mipha's diaries.
"The gods created the Triforce, yet they specifically designed it so that their own kind could never use its power." But hey, that's just a theory! A GAME THEORY!
So why would Demise go after it? Wouldn't he be unable to use it too, or are "demons" different from "gods" in the Zeldaverse? Perhaps something is lost in translation. Or would Demise be left with only the Triforce of Power (like his later incarnations)?
Skyward Sword Link and Toon Link are the most expressive out of all the links, but this Link had the most emotion. His heart literally ripped in half after Zelda went into her slumber, and he cried knowing that after just meeting his life-long childhood friend, he won’t see her again
I honestly can say that this was the one of the best, if not THE BEST cutscene I have ever seen in a Zelda game. I cannot explain how adorable Link looked when he cried. It was SO SAD!! :'(
Okay, okay, I know people are going to get mad at me for saying this, however, this is my opinion. I think this was the saddest L.O.Z moment, even if Zelda wasn't permanently trapped.
Can we talk about the face Link makes when he realizes Zelda’s been sealed? When he drops his face, you only see it for a moment, but that face he makes is ABSOLUTELY heart breaking.
It’s crazy they foreshadowed Zelda’s fate before this happened. When Link first meet Old Lady (Impa), right behind her and the gates. You see a crystal which is in fact Zelda inside. Even though the dowsing ability didn’t detect Zelda there…
I believe this was the very moment in Zelda lore Link - and his many incarnations - was appointed, by the goddess, the triforce of courage. IDK if that obvious I too agree, saddest scene out of most Zelda games
This moment really hurt me. You've been waiting for a certain amount of time for Zelda to actually meet up with Link, and when you finally meet her, she's not the person you knew on Skyloft. Link's dream girl went down the drain when you realize that it's only Hylia in a human body.....I understand it was her destiny...and it had to happen, but come on man...one kiss at the end wouldn't hurt. Way to kill the love Nintendo!!!
Even though I find the main plot in this game very shallow & weak for a Zelda game, I will say that the way how the characters show their emotions in this game is absolutely beautiful. This is one of my favorite scenes in the Zelda Franchise because of it.
Skyward Sword was flawed as a game, no doubt. But the two things it did get absolutely right were the soundtrack and the story, and this is proof of that. Never have I been more motivated to complete the game thanks to the emotional tug of scenes like this.
No, this game is the worst most painful ass to sit through. Zelda is a bitch to link and Link is a brat and I didn't care for those two fucking relationship because they're silly brats! Link and Zelda, go to your closet, time to go to bed, stop being clingy and go get therapy.
It took me 10 years to finish this game. Starting a game, getting almost through it, forgetting about it, starting again, yada yada. But man when I got to this part on the playthrough where'd Id finally finish it, god it hit me so hard. Especially after a massive heartbreak that was still pretty fresh at the time...
I don't care What anyone says I love Skyward Sword and cause they did amazing on making link's expressions a lot on this game when he felt like he had to cry cause of zelda's sealed herself in a crystal it hit me here it hurts his Rage when ghirahim took zelda wow i felt that.I'm a hardcore Zelda Fan and i'm proud of the director and the animators on how they did great on link's anger sadness and happiness in this game.
Hearing that lullaby since I was about 5 years old and I’m gonna be 27 this year damn so many games played so many adventures...such a long time already and hopefully I never lose the hope for the adventure even though I might one day...
When I played Skyward Sword I vividly remember this moment right here at 10:40. Seeing Link rush to Zelda made me so sad. But also a clear Zelink moment
