Thank-you, Jang. Excellent review when compared to some other channels. You always take play value into account and aren't at all snobby about size. I hope you continue doing reviews; they are very worthwhile.
Hey Jang ... thanks for a nice review with some good, fair comments and remarks ... The Sandcrawler is probably my favorite SW vehicle, so I was super excited to get the task of designing this rendition of the classic vehicle in LEGO :)
I actually appreciate this set being a smaller Sandcrawler. I can finally own one and fit it into my display collection. In this case bigger isn’t necessarily better :)
I originally was not interested in this set but having watched several reviews I'm sold on it. They did a fantastic job of basically scaling down the UCS model for standard system scale. It looks great, has great play features and figures. I love the driving function especially.
It's weird how sometimes a big Lego sets doesn't have as much space in its interior than a smaller counterpart, so I think this a win for Lego, very nice set!
Well, if you look at the first Lego Sandcrawler, you'd see why. It was very spacious inside and had comparatively little support structure. The first time I tried to move it, it immediately shattered because nothing was held together well. So it's been dismantled in my basement since I got it.
I got this set brand new on OfferUp last week for $40!! I’m so stoked. Great review as always, Jang. Your opinions always matter to us in our Lego buying purchases.
I was surprised to find that the Jawa vehicle from the Tatooine battle pack actually fits inside this Sandcrawler. Was that LEGO's idea from the start or just a coincidence?
Just ordered from Myer, can’t wait 😄 Honestly my biggest complaint is that the box art is in dusk weather instead of bright sunlight. Would have been a nice throwback to the original 2005 set
I think the large window is because you can push the little trolley of the ramp (inside out ) I start building it tomorrow changing all the blue and red pins into black and yes, I have a plate ready to cover that window up, just in case as it is a large cap in the vehicle. Driving it with such a hole on the side looks a bit silly indeed... We love your videos ! 👍👍👍
I own the UCS 2014 Sandcrawler, and I have to say, I largely agree that there should've been more to the interior. Besides that, I don't regret my purchase and I still prefer the UCS one over this edition. However, for a toy, this 2018 version obviously succeeds.
I’m really liking all these Tatooine sets in recent years. The most recent landspeeder, skyhopper, cantina, Jawa battle pack, sandcrawler, and the imperial dropship
Why are people complaining about non inclusion of R2-D2 and C-3PO do you really want those two figures to take up minifig space when you can get them in a bunch of other sets.
The_Headless_Horseman For this set, I agree that the two droids should be included. LEGO, instead wasted the R2-D2, in a set where it doesn't belong: The Imperial Shuttle. Thanks Lego.
Evan Blenkinsopp it’s because of the last Jedi and Soylo, a soy wars soyry. No Star Wars is selling. So they’re going to have to fair-up their prices if they even want a hope of moving stock, especially here in the UK where Star Wars is now ostensibly dead.
LostWhits definitely put this suggestion in his next mellemby video. I don't think he takes suggestions from videos other than those where he specifically asks for comments about it. Good idea!!
Why. R2 and 3PO come in every other lego set out there. Owen however would have been a good inclusion rather than Luke who you can get in the land speeder set.
Angrius Windstorm you can happily pay for them and get them elsewhere. I think it's good they have given us different droids here. It's good for variety.
If you take two cubes with one that is a third less in height, depth and width, the cubic volume is less than 40% the total amount of the bigger-so yeah, the hunch that this is about half the UCS edition's volume is probably right.
A Sand crawler set with no 3PO? And the other sets that are based off a new hope (X-wing, Landing craft) have R-2 and R2 is even in the star fighter set! I know it's appropriate for the X-wing and star fighter but Cmon 3PO could've been in one of these!
Including Luke was absolutely the right choice, but I can't help thinking that Owen Lars would have been appreciated more. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe only 2 Owen Lars figures have ever been released. One came in the original Sandcrawler which is pricey these days due to its size and age. The other was the UCS Sandcrawler which is pricey due to its size and UCS label. This could have been a "relatively" cheaper way to get Owen Lars.
I would love to see A smaller (republic) gunship that is earlier to afford, like instead of 80 dollars, it could be 40 dollars and have 5 minifigs (including 2 pilots and 3 normal troopers
Thank you very much for telling the actual length in cm)) You know,I'm not an american,so I never understand it,when you are talking about the length or height in inches..appreciate it,it helps a lot
I just bought the UCS version but I think this one is fantastic. It's like a smaller scale version which could be preferred for some as display space can be limited
The Super Nintendo game really made the sandcrawler's interior interesting to me. This doesn't live up to all the ore smashers and smelting pits, but it's still pretty cool.
Did they do a good job creating a play set? Yes. I agree some capes for the jawas would be nice and at least one more or even two. Overall, the inclusion of Luke is a miss but I don't know offhand what would have made me go WOW (maybe five jawas) with the minfig selection. Really should have been four jawas and no Luke. Some more tiling might help the overall look with all those exposed studs. But for $140, this is a hard sell for all but diehard OT fans. I wonder how many kids nowadays are even familiar with this vehicle?
All the new LEGO sets coming it are pretty awesome, unfortunately I stopped spending so much money on them. If they keeps all this up though, I may need to go back to buying lots of LEGO!
Great review Jang! I only buy SW Lego sets & have a MIB UCS Sandcrawler set in the collection. Since I don’t build them, I actually watch your videos to see what it would be like. Yeah, its a little weird I collect them this way, but as a kid it was always looking at the box sets on the shelf that made me wonder what it would be like to build them. I still hold that thought to this day, even though I have the sets I always wanted. Thanks for sharing Jang.
stingray427man that's pretty funny. I've heard of people who buy 2 of every set and only build one, but never someone who never builds them. Just out of curiosity, why don't you buy the box on the aftermarket?
I think it would benefit from a few more tiles and a few less studs on the sides - eg. they could switch out the 4x4 and 4x6 plates for those tile-plates with one row of studs only. Much like the UCS - it's a bit too studdy for my liking.
I personally prefer this to the UCS sandcrawler. Sure, the UCS one is much larger and more detailed, but considering the price of the thing, it's much more accessible. I still think it's funny that the steering mechanism here is more effective than the larger one but takes up less interior veritcal space.
I see this as the budget sandcrawler, since it's probably made for people who can't afford the ucs version. similar to how the 2ds is a cheaper version of the 3ds for those who can't afford it.
I love how everybody calls this set “little” because of the previous UCS version of the set, yet it still costs $130. That’s not a little amount of money lol.
