Lelit MaraX v2: How to properly brew and steam at the same time

Lelit MaraX v2 uses a single boiler to generate steam and hot water for brewing espresso. It uses a heat exchanger system where water in the boiler is kept at a higher temperature for steam while passing through a tube to achieve the optimal temperature for brewing. This setup allows for simultaneous brewing and steaming, though temperature stability for brewing can be affected by the heat exchange process.

I have the v1.0 and if I let a little steam out like you did at the start of this video, it will activate boost mode. So I Just do that before I grind, then by the time I have prepped the portafilter, steam pressure is up and ready. I was pleased to discover that I don't need to lift the brew lever to activate the steam boost mode.

Yeah, steam mode is recommended if you brew and steam at the same time or making back to back latte. If you're not in a rush then Brew Priority mode is ideal.

Great video. Thank you. I don't have a fancy grinder like you. What is the perfect weight of freshly ground coffee would you say? Do you think I need to get a stirrer to distribute the coffee too?
@supplemarmot1244
@supplemarmot1244 20 дней назад
Ground coffee weight (dose) will depend on your basket size. Good rule of thumb is you can grind within 2g below or above the basket size. Then you would need to extract it with the appropriate amount of water, in an appropriate amount of time, to yield a good result. A coffee:water ratio (brew ratio) of 1:2 is a good place to start for most modern roasts.

Hi, thanks for the video! I recently got a Mara X V2 (The same than yours). And what I'm trying to figure out is what does it mean de Coffe mode and the steam mode, and what number (0, 1) of the side switch is what thing. This was my question to Lelit support: "I need to understand de X mode position. Because in the physical manual said that the 1 position is for steam priority, and assume that 0 position is for brew priority, but in the extended manual (PDF found in internet) says the opposite (1 for brew priority and 0 for steam priority). So I really don’t understand what is the meaning of 0 mode and 1 (lateral switch). So I would appreciate if you can clarify this for me." They ask me for my serial number in order to clarify, because isn't really clear. In this video how was your config in lateral and front switches?

@@MagoMarlon MaraX version 1 => I is the Brew priority mode and O is the steam priority mode In MaraX version 2, they switched it. O is the brew priority mode and I is the steam priority mode. The hardcopy manual I got is outdated. If you're making espresso and americano/long black, you can set to brew mode. If you make 2 latte or more, you can set to steam mode. Temperature O = light roast I = medium roast || = dark roast

I see you are using a puck screen. It will make an issue on the lever mechanism? The puck screen will stop the oil of the coffee to lube the internal mechanism and you have to use special alimentary lube for that
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner 6 месяцев назад
So far i have no issues using a puck screen. It helps to keep the grouphead clean and dispense the hot water evenly to the coffee puck.

I don’t know what it is with my machine but in brew mode even when bar is at 1,5 I still feel that the pressure isn’t good enough… it seems as if it lowers a bit right after I turn it on. I’ve tried to put it on steam mode once but did not get the pressure up…shouldn’t the pressure always then be around 1,5 when at steam mode or is it the same that you have to lift the leaver to build it up even at steam mode? Only difference I saw in steam mode is that the bar was more stable on 1 bar at start (before lifting the leaver). I can be completely wrong here but I’ll try again in the morning. I see your technique is good when steaming… you actually fill it with air longer than me but your results are great 👍🏻. I think it is a balance when to dip the tip of the wand even further depending of the capacity of the steam pressure… I mean the more power it has the faster you’d have to dip it… that and in relation to how hot the milk is 😅, so if the milk already is coming up in temperature and the milk’s texture isn’t ready at that point then you really have to stop even with a “flat” steamed milk 😂 Science hehe . Great work my friend! You are awesome. I’ll try to be as picky as you are it makes the routine so much more fun. But hopefully I’ll get some more steam engaged this morning. I have the V1.

Thanks for watching and for your time. Usually higher the brewing temp, higher the steam pressure. I adjust how I steam my milk depending on the current steam pressure. For example, less air if the steam pressure reaches 2.0 or more because my latte will become a capuccino 🙂. I will create a video soon about milk steaming with MaraX.

Hi, I am planning on buying the mara x to start a small coffee business. I am thinking of putting it on the steam priority mode when doing business to keep up the pressure. Do you think this machine is able to work in a small coffee business setting?
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner 10 месяцев назад
Steam Priority mode is recommended for small cafe. Also, you can turn off or turn on the Economy mode when needed. Default is Economy mode turned "on" after 30-40mins when the machine is idle. If the cafe is busy, I recommend to turn off so it's faster to warm up and ready to brew.

If my beans require 92 degrees and I want to have steam priority. When at warm mode(92 degrees) the pressure really doesn’t go to 1,5 bar at standby. Do you recommend just to rely on the flushing to try to lower the temperature to 92 and at the same time have the setting on “hot” to have more steam? Don’t know which is best… I mean by changing to steam mode you are really also changing the temperature at standby… so is then the temperature setting very “picky “ when choosing beans?
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner 3 месяца назад
You can also try this. After pulling your shot, clean your portafilter first by running a couple of blank shots. Then wait for the steam pressure to increase. Then steam your milk. I do this sometimes.
@AzizIzgin

@@HomeBaristaCorner so you recommend that I keep the temperature at “warm” and wait for the steam to boost up instead of the other way around ? 🙏🏻

@@AzizIzgin when on brew priority for dark roast, run a blank shot first, then complete your puck prep. Purge again the group head and insert your portafilter then pull your shot. Then after you pull your shot, run a couple of blank shots to clean your portafilter. By this time your steam pressure is ideal, at least 1.5

Hi. I have noticed in a few of your videos that you use steam priority mode to make couple milk drinks back to back. In many of the revies on youtube people say to avoid this mode because the brew temperature is getting to high than it should be and tou loose the quality of espresso shot. (Brew temp over 100C) Have you noticed that?
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner 10 месяцев назад
I understand your concern. I will perform the same exercise once I received by temperature sensor kit for the group head. I will only recommend Steam Priority if you're in a rush like brewing and steaming at the same time or making more latte drinks. Just like other HX machine, we need to flush the group head before pulling the shot to stabilize the temperature. But for Brew Priority mode, no need. Thank you for watching!

@@HomeBaristaCorner about this I ask to Lelit support a guide for this. This was my question and their answer: Q: The manual says that in 24 minutes the machine is ready to brew (In brew mode), and the temperature light indicator stop flashing, but in mi experience the temperature light indicator stop flashing in no more than 10 minutes. So I don't know if the machine is ready in these 10 minutes or despite the temperature light indicator is on (without flashing) I must wait 24 minutes. A: Please, note that 10 minutes may be a normal warm up time: 24 minutes is the maximum warm-up time, indicated in particular for those countries where room temperature is lower and the machine may take longer to reach the right temperature. Hope this would be helpful

@@MagoMarlon the resolution for this is to install the temperature sensor kit in the group head. Another way to gauge is if I can't touch the bottom of my dual spout portafilter for 3secs because it's too hot, machine is ready to brew.
