This Song was written by Leon Ware for Marvin Gaye. It was first recorded by Mr. Ware, but Marvin Gaye's rendition was released sooner, as he was the more popular artist at the time...
am in love with this song. sometimes i think i was just born in the wrong era! im only 26 and cant stand listening to some of the garbage out today...but this...this right here..i know is unfabricated music. love it.
The interesting fact about this album is that Leon submitted this and "I Want You", as well as several other tracks (written with Diana's brother, Arthur "T-Boy"Ross) as a demo for Motown. Berry Gordy decided that the tracks were better suited for Marvin Gaye, and the result became one of his best albums. He also wrote "I Wanna Be Where You Are" for Michael Jackson and "Inside My Love" for Minnie Riperton.
He has since worked on Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite and with British soul phenom Omar. Now this is a guy whose talents are "unsung". Perhaps TVOne should do a show on him, no?
Wow Leon Ware unbelievable. I didn't knew who he was until now. The talent we don't even know exists . This is gorgeous. When did this man pass?? Sad I wish he was still here. Incredible jam.👏👏❤️💕🎶🎶🎶
If you ever feel down, listen to Musical Massage and I Want You by Marvin Gaye (written and produced by Leon Ware). It might not take your troubles away but for a little while you'll at least be at peace. Music I truly can't live without.
MsTexas73 Very few men or women I know are up on this cut and Marvins other magical, non -commercial gems as the songs you mentioned, you sure love to ball and the "Heat my dear album"which I still have on wax.You gotta be something special.Just saying!
This song is so breezy and beautiful!!!Leon Ware's voice is sooo sensuous and sexy, and compliments Minnie's so well. My favorite lines are when they sing together at 1:08 "Anything you want, anytime of day." And at 2:27 "Breakfast in your bed, honey on your bread." I'm sayin', DAG!!! Don't they sound so inviting?
OMG, MG, MG - What a pairing! Always happy to discover yet ANOTHER tune blessed by Minnie Ripperton's voice. Are they actually singing together on this or is it some sort of technical wizardry?
Listen to this song everyday on my ipod, this is the stuff. I'm amazed at how good they sounded, people could really sing back then. I gotta get this album, check out Instant Love too. Good song.
@mmemmorry Yes he still is. Minnie died in 1979.. I knew this version first... I love Marvin Gaye...just this version suits better with a male and female voice. Leon's voice is very similar to Marvins'...
Yes he wrote it...genius...BUT....shows how great Marvin was..cos...he made this shit his...this version doesn't compare to his...just like floetry's version of "Butterflies" Can't fuk wit Mike's!!!
My brother being an Marvin aficionado, YOU'RE 100% RIGHT. Marvin made this his shit once he heard Leon's original version. He added layers of his vocals and a masterpiece was born. Took a year and a half just to lay vocals down!!
