During these last few live tours Leonard seems to reach his highest levels of musical expression, and has surrounded himself with a band and backing singers of world class level. Just check out how many of the band are noteworthy recording artists in their own right. We're lucky Leonard was pushed into these last tours and that we have such a great musical treasure as a result.
@@paga123 It's everything, the whole band is absolutely top level. When Leonard Cohen tasked Roscoe Beck to assemble a touring lineup he said "I just want the best band on the road this year".
I'm incredibly privileged to have lived 200 meters from Mr Cohens Montreal house. Funnily enough he lived on a street called Marieanne. After he passed many montrealers had a vigil in front of his house. In front people laid flowers, candles but also tea and oranges.
This used to be my least favorite Leonard Cohen song. Now I adore it. Every time I listen, it touches me more deeply. Cohen was a great, irreplaceable artist.
I thank this great musician/poet for my career, i studied listening to his music. I'm 70yrs. now and I still love his songs. He is a poet, a genius and above all a gentleman. ❤❤❤❤
I was 19 years old, 1985. When an older friend introduced me to Leonard Cohen's music. I wasn't alone in the world anymore. Thank you Leonard Cohen, forever in my heart with gratitude.
I've just read someone mentioning this song which surprisingly even though a long-time Leonard Cohen fan I've never heard before. My brother, who took his own life 5 years ago now, introduced me to Leonard and from hereon I will think of him whenever I listen to this beautiful ballad. My dear brother Andrew, I hope that you have since met the great Mr. Cohen in the afterlife.
Lyrics It's four in the morning, the end of December I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold, but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening I hear that you're building your little house Deep in the desert You're living for nothing now I hope you're keeping some kind of record Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear? Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder You'd been to the station to meet every train You came home without Lili Marlene And you treated my woman To a flake of your life And when she came back She was nobody's wife Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth One more thin gypsy thief Well I see Jane's awake She sends her regards And what can I tell you my brother, my killer What can I possibly say? I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you I'm glad you stood in my way If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me Well your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes I thought it was there for good so I never tried And Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Sincerely, L. Cohen
This is my three-year-old nephew’s favourite song. It’s the only song that is guaranteed to stop him crying and send him to sleep, ever since he was born.
I am an Indian. And I have not, in my 22 years of living, come across anyone who listens to Mr. Cohen ardently, or has even heard of him. It's astounding how such giants have walked amongst us, fellow mortals, and we didn't even give them their due credit till the time they were around us. RIP, Sir.
I'm an Indian and I know a few who listen to Cohen. He maybe not as popular amongst general populace, but he has an audience. Yes I wish it was bigger. Also before RU-vid i doubt if there were many ways to look for good international artists, if you don't have a family that exposes you to good music
I'm Dutch, and was the same as you around 22 when I discovered Leonard Cohen... I'm now 64 and still listen almost daily ....much love from the Netherlands...
Back in the early 70’s a man I was seeing played the album “Songs from a Room” and I’ve never forgotten it. This song was haunting me today which is how I ended up here.
So good to be the end of December so I can play this song, again and again. So good to read the positivity below when the world is in the grip of Covid-19
It sounds better than the earlier versons. I love this song, have loved it for forty years. Words and Feelings of friendship, love and melancholy. . Thank you Leonard Cohen. Your soul and music remain with us all.
Masterpiece, İstanbul'un soğuk geçen kasım günlerinde, camdan dışarı bakınca yağan yağmur ve var olan fırtına, arka planda L.Cohen'ın yıllanmış şarabı andıran sesi. 19.11.23
What a songwriter. His voice to elevate the lyrics to another level and give it depth and dimension so different from the conventional music. Reminds me of Bob Dylan. Legends.
Mr. Cohen. You have beautiful songs immensely adore you like your creation. you give me the strength to continue to live and enjoy life's beauty. Thank you very much. thank you sir
I don't know if it was "four in the morning", but it is definitely "the end of December" and in my dream it was You. It was a pleasant conversation. The dream made up for the emptiness of reality. You and Your art live in my heart forever. ♥️
Divine Music, majestic voice, audience will have 100% concentration without wandering while listening to this great stream of music.. This will be in air forever... We deeply miss you sir...
Like one of his songs, he knew he was ......'just passing through' ..... so glad to have come across his genius. His memory blesses all......Farewell Leonard.

RIP Legend, my dad passed in 2010, he was your biggest fan, and I grew to love you also, we both saw you live in manchester (best £100 Ive ever spent on a concert!) have a great time now in the tower of song with my old fella :-)
Dear Mr Cohen, For the light and the dark, the bittersweet and the joyous, the subtle nuance and the bald-faced statement, all entered into with utmost conviction and a true sense of what it means to be a human being, with all our faults and triumphs... I thank you and remain, most humbly and sincerely, A friend. Chris Talbot Sydney, Australia November 11, 2016
@@MarcosBryant-lj8zi I adore his multiple talents, and his free , open mind! He was a poet, a writer, and a singer with a unique voice and performance! His texts had always meaning , and they spoke directly to the heart and the intellect of his fans!!!!He was a humble, generous, and gracious man , with inborn noblesse and irresistible humor !!❤️👍
@@MarcosBryant-lj8zi I love all his songs of his maturity years, and some of his youth . You can go to his site and listen all of them. And that's it! Thank you!
I'm glad I lived through this time. Poor, and lounging back onto one of those old 1940s brown lounge chairs with the stuffing hanging out of it, passing a half empty wine cask around a boree ring of coeds. And there was Leonard's presence, hypnotically escaping from two great, heavy speakers as we lay on the linoleum somewhere between midnight and dawn. It's strange how genius seems to reach out and grab receptive young minds.
grew up listening to him as a child as my ma played him none stop and i did not like him well i did not understand him then i grew up and fell in love with him and his poetry he was an amazing man R.I.P
I have known Leonard Cohen by chance, wondering on youtube..I found the best and wonderful singer I have ever known..A real treasure in our real world! God bless you, Leonard!
Look up dax riggs..he is the former singer of a metal band called acid bath..he's a extremely talented feller..he has quite a few bands now..agents of oblivion..deadboy and the elephantmen ..his solo stuff..dax riggs..he covers a few of Leonard Cohen's songs..he does them justice..hope you enjoy
Sincerest condolences to your family. And deepest thanks to you Mr. Leonard Cohen, for your superb legacy of melodic originality, audacity and honesty. You are remembered with much admiration and love.
it was a one of favourite singer of my beloved boyfriend who passed away almost two years ago. Only now I can hear Leonard Cohen without tears of my eyes)) What a great music!
So thankful that I was finally able to see him live on this tour. The memories of a lifetime brought to life in front of my eyes. The best concert I have ever been to.
Love from China. When i was a freshman i heard his songs in a rainy night, i deeply fell into love his voice. But so sadly when i was in the military as a voluntary soilder he passed away. He gave me strength and told me loneness is a must way to mature as Michael Jackson taught me to be kind
Gracias MAESTRO COHEN
Ravna Kareliussen I also went through a really bad point in my life, had a mental breakdown and it was some of Leonard Cohen's songs that let me see life in a very different perspective. So I fully understand where you are coming from. Hope the rest of our lives will be much better for us. Keep your faith in god as well.
I recently found out about this song and I have been bawling my eyes out listening to it like 20 times a day. It's a masterpiece! I especially love the violin part!!
