Leopard Gecko Genetics: Long and Short ways to Calculate Multiple Gene Genetics! (2021)
Hello Gecko GUYS and GALS!
In this video I focus on the EXTENDED version of the Punnett Square. This method is used to CALCULATE more than 1 Gene morph crosses. HOWEVER there is a much easier way to CALCULATE Leopard Gecko Genetics and I will show it to you LATER ON in the VIDEO.
The first method shows WHAT is happening GENETICALLY, and the second method is just FAR EASIER to use on a REGULAR basis. PLUS the second method ALLOWS you to much more easily combine 3, 4, and even 5 GENE MORPHS!
Timestamp BELOW, if you decide to JUMP straight to the 2nd METHOD: 10:57
Thank you guys once AGAIN and I really APPRECIATE all the LOVE and SUPPORT.
PS - Check out our new WEBSITE and ONLINE store at geekygeckocreations.com
We have T-Shirts that I think are pretty COOL, and RIGHT NOW you HAVE the CHANCE to be one of the FIRST to own ONE!
Thank you guys and until next time,
Have a Geeky Gecko Great Day!

Thank you thats awesome! In some of these genetics videos, I mixed up my understanding of the Double Helix and Chromosomes, im sure youll notice it if you watch those parts, but other than that, if you just tell them to replace "chromosome" in places where i show images of "double helixes" it should be fine, but please correct my understanding if you see other places off :D :D Thank you for sharring! so cool :D :D

Very amazing video great content if I breed a inferno tangerine to a high yellow what would I get
@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 года назад
Thanks Nick! So Inferno and High yellow are features called "line bred traits" similar to if u take a tall human and breed them with another tall human the babies will most likely be tall. Same with Orange and Yellow they are simply line bred color traits so essentially what do u get when u mix orange with yellow? You'll get like an orangish/yellow skin color gecko. Does that make sense?

How would you do it if the mom and dad didn't have equal genetics say a 4 gene to a 2 gene or a 4 gene to a 3 and so on
@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 года назад
Good question. So, did u see at the end of this video how we calculated each mutation that each parent brings to the table separately and then multiply the results together at the very end. For example, is the dad is Snow, albino and the mom is only snow, u would make a Punnett square still for snow and albino and then multiply them in the end. So you would make a Punnett squares for the snow gene for both parents and thrn even tho the mom doesn't have albino, you still need to make a Punnett square for albino because the dad does so for snow 25% of the babies would be super snows, 50% snows and 25% nornal, and for albino 100% of the babies will be het albino. So you'd have Super snow 25% x het albino 100%= 25% Snow 50% x het albino 100%=50% Normal 25% x het albino 25%= 25% Does that male sense? If not I can try to explain again. But u still need to make a Punnett square for every possible combo. Did u watch the 4th genetic video? That one goes deeper than this one and I think will answer ur question 😊😊🦎

@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 года назад
@@dfantasticcreatures436 Thanks brotha! Yeah line breeding in its simplest form is not recessive, dominant, or incomplete dominant. In leopard geckos its simply taking geckos that have similar size, color, pattern, to enhance those qualities similar in humans if two tall people have a baby their baby will most likely be tall, not because tallness is a recessive trait but simply because tall people pass on other genetic markers that make tall children. Same with short people producing short children, or muscular people producing more fit or muscular children. Does that kinda make sense?

How can we remove the HET in breeding to have a Gecko that is Non HET?
@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 года назад
You have to Breed it to an animal that is not HET for the gene you are trying to remove. And then even then a het to a non het produces 50% hets in the clutch anyways, but you wont know visually which are het so you have to test breed over the course of a season or two, by breeding the gecko you are hoping is "non het" with an actual visual version of the gene you are hoping to prove non het. In doing this, if the babies come out visual, you know that your gecko is HET and if the baies do not, you know that "most likely" your gecko is no longer HET for the gene you are trying to removed. Make sense? its called "breeding out" a gene, or "test breeding" to see if a gene exists in an animal.

@@GeekyGeckoCreations so for example, I have a Tremper het Eclipse, i need to match it to a Tremper Eclipse?
@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 года назад
@@markanthonytamayo2460 Exactly! Then you will know without a doubt "if" your "het" eclipse, truly is "het eclipse" if you pop out some eclipse babies.. Make sense?

Yooo where is Part 2 Also please explain how and why breeders, breed the siblings to the parents too prove a gene out. (Second generation X original mom/dad) How is that ethical but so necessary at the same time.

Full 6 video playlist here: ru-vid.com/group/PLx8bHR1oX-db8PMZqy7u5IO13Div-Xn6q Also in reptiles, their genetics are more strongly resistant to inbreeding defects than mammals. So like dogs and cats you never want to inbreed but reptiles you can. However there still is a limited gene pool in captivity so you want to out cross as much as possible but you can usually breed for many generations before seeing any issues. However since reptiles have already been inbred for many generations in captivity you want to watch out for defects or issues from doing that every year and if you see issues, you may want to consider not inbreeding that line anymore and finding different DNA to breed to it :)
