Look at Wacolyte, four years and 180 million for these short eight episodes. How can a person who used to produce a quality show with REAL ~26 episode seasons for years withstand the glacial production pace under KK? but where does a guy who's done little to nothing other Star Wars go when all that's being produced anymore is Star Was? He has little choice but to cash the checks and mail it in. sad really.

He pandered to geroge lucas in the beginning in order to cement his position as the stsr wars forerunner. When that was achieved, he started building his own star wars universe and characters, leaving the OG ones in the dust, either ignoring them moving forward or destroying them to build up HIS vision of star wars (eg luke, han solo) . Mando , book of boba fett were all launching pad for this new universe. I mean look at mando season 3 , suddenly bo katan became the central character. Its all pretty obvious. Its all by design , what filoni wants is ultimately and eventually replace george lucas as the name synonymous with star wars. And the woke agenda is part of this design.

I wonder how many changes were made to initial concept during these 4 years in the making. The basic idea wasn't bad but we can watch the final effect ourselves and it's far, far away from being good. I have an impression that even Lesley dosen't know what the hell is happening in her show. I one sentence she explains something (we haven’t confirmed that the witches created them. [laughs]) and in the next one she quite opposite (the act of creating them was going to need amplification). Even characters she's created say the Jedi would be unhappy if they found out how the witches created the twins. In another interview she said "she believed" that Anaseia was transforming herself and Mae into the Force. If I would write a story, I would have KNOWN why something is happening.

I'm not absolving the show creator from blame, but Disney has a nasty habit of exec meddling during shooting and airing. Same execs who had the scripts for months before the production shot a single frame, but couldn't imagine issues until they see the first cut of the episode. Then everyone's an expert at what is gonna offend the populace, but no expertise as to what makes a good show. That said, Disney also backs off once the show runner puts their foot down by showing up for all the hassle of meetings and basically selling the show concept to the execs again. And also sprinkle in some bull and acting (yes yes, thats a good idea, which we can tie in here to leave as a spin to a second season? Wink wink?), take some exec notes that the creator later throws away. And you're gold. Headland basically started with a concept, sold it to Kennedy (who may have seen Headland as a mini her - she started off as an assistant to Spielberg, one who wouldn't quit pitching ideas during creative meetings). Headland wasn't strong enough of a writer to make a good story, tried to bullcrap her way through interviews the way she did with Kennedy, except unlike KK, the real world keeps receipts and called her out on it. Then the show plops onto our doorstep and we're all wondering 'what an interesting smell you've discovered,' wasting weeks trying to get it out, or hoping that this show gets better.
@samuelwallace2782
@samuelwallace2782 2 месяца назад
Basically every interview she does makes the case that she's just not a very good writer and too inexperienced to be a showrunner for a project of this scale. Contrary to popular belief, I think she IS a huge Star Wars fan, and that she DOES care about the lore. I just think she is a bad mix of a hollow philosopher and a bad storyteller.

15:16 That sounds awfully similar to "becoming one with the force but retaining your individuality." Which is what a force ghost is. So, according to Headland, she THINKS (her words) they were becoming force ghosts. That causes way more concerns than problems it solves.
@craigjacks588
@craigjacks588 2 месяца назад
Yeah, because Force Ghosts could interact with the physical plane and use the Force, while also having the benefit of being completely intangible and unstoppable since, well, they're already dead. And you can't kill that which is already dead. So someone becoming a Force Ghost at this time period makes everything a whole lot dumber according to what they CAN do in The Rise of Skywalker.

Even if she was "transforming into the Force" non-lethally, how are the Jedi supposed to have understood that? They saw a hostile opponent turning into a distorted black cloud creature and seemingly disintegrating a scared child? Were they supposed magically know that this was a completely benign example of a feat nobody has ever heard of? Or that being slightly poked with a lightsaber would instantly kill this Force mist? Why didn't she just say something like "we're leaving" so they understood it was just an attempt to escape? Disregarding that, it was completely unnecessary. The witches could have dropped the attitude and pointless evasiveness and just explain the situation. Especially if she was really "going to let Osha go" despite having acted in the exact opposite way. That's just a gaslighting guilt trip on her part.

It feels as if they give zero F*cks about respecting this widely beloved story that they have been given the opportunity to be in charge of? They don't comprehend how much they don't understand Star Wars. So much so that IT HURTS! (They also don't understand anything about quality storytelling/ character building & world building as a whole) Yet these people act like They deserve these positions? Out of all people, HOW are these who they want to be creating Star Wars content..? It's ridiculous.. I don't understand how things have gotten this bad that NO ONE can step in and Fire all of these inadequate people..? The world needs people to put their ego's aside and just bring in truly passionate and gifted individuals artist's, actors, writers, set designers, sound design, you name it, we need a shift that shows improvement.. Things have been bleak for far too long. If they could bring in selfless, talented and passionate people it could really help get ourselves out of this depressed hole that we've been stuck in. This feeling is a natural response if all we have been seeing is these soulless detached narcissistic individuals are who is in charge. It's awful, it's fake and it's forced. They don't just Not grasp Star Wars. They don't understand the creative process as a whole.. There's genuinely talented people out there who haven't gotten a chance to work on projects such as this and I really think it's time those people get the chance to work on these projects. Random Honest question: When it comes to the Acolyte, What is so SPECIAL about Osha and Mea for them to be the Main focus, the Main characters, etc. She has ZERO personality, 0 depth, 0 intricate aspects to her character.. Yet we are supposed to believe All off this is occurring around the twins as the main focus...? She has the personality of a cardboard box. There's so many things that are very wrong with this sad attempt at telling a star wars story.. There's so many issues with this story tho.. None of what they have made actually portraits accurate star wars, accurate jedi, etc. etc. How did this cost $180 million..? It seriously does not make any sense This show comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show. as a script writer myself it's simple this show suffers from over thinking, which is a common problem with inexperienced writers who are too much in their own heads where everything makes sense but they fail to rewrite the story by looking at it through the eyes and perspective of people who are only going by what they see (which is a skill good writers have) as presented in the final product on screen. This type of writing utilized by the shows writer works better in novel form but fails miserably when used on screen because it just leaves the audience confused beyond belief. 2 different types of writing made for 2 different types of medium

No, it was clearly showcasing that one strong, confident woman has more power in one hand than "The Power of Many," which is why only a female character could have pulled off this feat. Though this does mean Master Trinity was the most guilty Jedi since she killed most of the witch cultists, so her padawan 'unaliving' himself by drinking evil twin's poison still makes zero sense, especially when he and the Wookiee were the real victim of all this after being mind-controlled.

But now that I think about it, I realize; its just first grade math. Adding two things together makes them greater than one thing, and adding a bunch of things together is bigger than that. So their great wisdom is that... working together makes them stronger? Their entire philosophy is literally the "Apes together, strong" meme from Planet of the Apes.

After seeing episode 7, I think I know how or why Sol didn't know that evil twin wasn't good twin. The way they were created means they're like one being that was split in two, giving them the same feel or Force energy as the other, so when evil twin disguised herself as good twin, Sol couldn't feel the difference between the two... Though this means nothing when you consider that evil twin has a freaking NOTICEABLE TATTOO on her forehead! So that whole 'switching places' plan shouldn't have worked anyway. It really shows how bad the writing for this series is when you have to watch a whole episode or two ahead to get an answer for something that didn't make sense before, when the answer should have been explained back then.

What were aniseya's intentions when turning into a demon like smoke creature and then begins Mae dissipate? How do we the audience know that Aniseya was trying to help? That scene, only made me sympathize with Sol. While watching Leslye’s interview, I noticed the shelves behind her filled with SW Funko Pops and Lego SW items. To me that exemplified her lack of real interest in the Star Wars universe and smacked of surface level fandom. It’s just a job for her, until the next job appears. She doesn’t actually care.

All the hyperbole and animosity around the show is unhelpful, bordering on insanity, but hey, that’s the internet. However, the show itself can be criticised as a poorly written, poorly plotted and occasionally badly acted production. Occasional decent fights don’t make a good show. Criticise it on those grounds. It doesn’t require vitriol and aggression to make such points. I agree, all that interview info should have been in the show

If she was going to include an evolution on the witches of Dathomir with a private 'cult' that has access to the force - and views the Jedi taking of children negatively - Leslye would have been a lot better of doing something like merging the Dathomiri witches with the Dagoyan Masters from the Clone Wars arc that have Force sensitivity & don't view the Jedi positively. It's a much more nuanced storyline than The Acolyte... and it's only three 20min episodes

I am not prone to hatewatching, well at least not for long. Part of it is that I do wanna talk about it but my comments become so long and exhaustive that make me dread what nervewrecking atrocities against the art of filmmaking they´re gonna force out this time, prompting me to have to put in the rest of the work in another comment dissecting it into a more realistic version of what effects the stuff they´re showing on screen is actually having on the viewer rather than what they´ve intended to do...or if it is especially bad, as this show so often is, when I have to call out what I feel like is a more or less hidden agenda they packaged into the Star Wars IP label and now try to inject it into the discussion without any regards to the public discourse. None of this feels like art anymore. None of it comes of a place of fondness for the Star Wars lore. None of it regards the grander picture of how the Disney corporation forces its nearly monopolistic market structure position onto viewers. They would sacrifice the healthiness of the fandoms discourse any day for their marketing scheme of creating products that appeal to the widest possible audience. It is not about representation. It is not about female empowerment, minority issues or any kind of noble cause. For them it is a product that is supposed to reel in those target groups. And if they have to sacrifice the fandom, the civil public discourse and the IP...they do it. Sometimes it even seems like they seem to take joy in it. Like Lesley herself has some kind of vendetta against George Lucas himself...and even if I am completely wrong with that, watching this show does infact do two things for me: For one - it makes me feel like what I said is true. This marketing campaign didn´t just feel a bit misaligned or wrongly taken due to forced misinterpretation by others. They came out the gate in some form of agression against existing viewers...and like said, even if I am completely wrong about that feeling, none of what they did in the marketing was actually about the show. Even now after 7 episodes barely any discussion that we are having about the product at hand is staying the course of strictly discussing Star Wars lore. And I for one do not take it that Disney would make it my fault. I am neither so far involved with the Star Wars fandom nor with the internet discussions that I would feel the need nor any enjoyment out of discussing anything other than the craft itself. I like to know about filmmaking aspects and I want to view it as a form of art. And that is the extent of it that I would want to get involved in it. But this is no art. And now I can say: Yeah we, if you´re looking for art in Disneys work then you are wrong anyways, and I would be inclined to agree I guess, these platform releases are strictly products. But I would add something to that, because The Acolyte goes one step further in my opinion: It is about Disney forcing a meta narrative on the viewer. It is not that I am unable to stay with the actually important parts of this show, rather it is that it was made specifically to tell a meta narrative in which Disney and Disney alone wants to hold the reigns of the discussion. This product forces views of the writers, the showrunner, the actor and the Disney corp about real life issues into the narrative of the Star Wars IP. They are injecting their own world view into it, regardless of whether it fits or it doesn´t. They are not telling a Star Wars story, the Star Wars IP is only the vehicle for a meta narrative about repression of females. The power of people of colour and minorities getting back at their oppressors which is the old Jedi this franchise came from from the vision of George Lucas. It is depicting narrative strings from colonialization, imperialism, abuse of power and authority...but not because these characters or the Star Wars timeline knows those things, but because the people involved with this product *think* they know those things and have to send a message, even if it doesn´t fit neither the Star Wars canon NOR their own story. One can see that, time and time again. Was the Gimpman bathing scene needed in any way? No, but at least they could get back at the men because they always used to do things like that. Why does Padawan lesbian love interest suddenly know how to fight with two lightsabers and presses a Sith more than a normal Master could? Because females strong. Why is any of what happened at the Witch covern the Jedis fault, eventually they´d have had to deal with them anyways since they´re clearly hostile towards the Jedi and dabbling with the Dark Forces, so if nothing happened now they would have carried the conflict forward eventually...well because they needed a discussion to happen about how the Jedi being the good guys is a thing of discussion...even if they have to shoehorn it in so that scenes barely make any sense to watch anymore ", why would she posses the Jedi, why is she so hostile when their goals align anyways, Why is she suddenly smoke" and the dialogue reaches unfathomable depths of "The Jedi are good" "The Jedi are bad"...and when I am pointing out that this is what I am seeing when watching the show, then: Two - They´re trying to push me into a rightwing corner because they are mixing up my feeling of how they can´t seperate their own personal messages with the integrity of the Star Wars canon (over which they already want full control over), neigh, they are even trying to claim full control over the interpretation of art. And that gets me mad. I want absolutely nothing to do with right wing media shills and their ingrained political messages they can´t seperate from critiquing films. And yet, when I want to discuss negative aspects of the show, it is highly unfortunate, that what normally is completely irrational agendaed hating, this time actually connects with a completely agendaed writing and marketing of a product in which one of the biggest corporations wants to claim independence from judgement of the viewers because everyone who does not align themselves with Disneys views is somehow a worse person than they are and as such do not have to be listened to because the only thing they listen to is money and that part they are covering otherwise as mentioned above. And they do that in ways that I can just simply not condone, as far removed as I am from any right wing ideas, I have deep rooted issues with the hidden context messages at the core of this show that I view as possibly even harmful in real life- whether it be "well maybe he earned his punishment, maybe suicide was the only way to redeem himself", to "maybe murder is negotiable" or real life issues like the very much observeable phenomenon that punishment is judged differently depending on how hot a person is, resulting in a scene where the good girl is converted to the dark side in the span of an afternoon because the guy dropped his pants. And that from a country that is not part of the jurisdiction for human rights violations, and from a country where views on vigilantism and self served justice are a highly controversial topic, with suicide rates in young men where they are at...and they want to push those criticisms into a right wing corner because I for once have to agree with mostly negative and critical channels, because Disney corp feels they have the only right to discuss what is right and wrong and what is important and what isn´t and how art has to be viewed. The is the audacity of people who do not care about creating art in the first place. I am sure that is not the intended interpretation of Leslye Headland, but when they constantly make the narrative about real life issues and constantly communicate how they want to tell a story about real life issues and constantly bring that kind of attitude into their interaction with the public discourse...how can I not hate a show like that. I hate it for the bad and sometimes even harmful writing because their not so hidden meta agenda is constantly impeding with the actual Star Wars lore we have come to love for the hopeful message of higher virtues it sent. I hate it for ruining my youtube search history because with their marketing they riled up the community almost as if it was their goal to undermine the possibility of a civil public discourse. And I hate that an almost monopoly company is trying to take away my right for interpretation of art...because all I originally cared for was watching a show. Instead they pushed out an agendafilled product that would sacrifice everything for their own financial bottomline.

And the fact that I could make this long of a comment without ever actually getting to any aspect of the actual art of filmmaking or mentioning any of the things that made Star Wars interesting to care for in the first place is kind of proof that this show was never about creating art of any kind.

It's not just a matter of having too many incompetent cooks - Disney Star Wars is awful because Kennedy, her "story board" and writers like Ryan Johnson have been out to deconstruct (meaning destroy) Star Wars from the beginning. They hate its high spirited adventure about the battle between good and evil, preferring instead a dark, incoherent, and dispiriting sermon on social justice.

@@RealLifeFakeWizard I respectfully disagree, I believe this was sort of a "Midichlorian" level silly line from George Lucas, and then later people had to make it work somehow. If their idea of balance is "getting rid of ALL people who practice the entire Dark Side of this universe-wide Force" - it's like one political party saying there would be balance if the other political party ceased to exist entirely. Plus, when they said it, in Episode 1, as far as they knew, there were no Sith. What exactly were they hoping he would bring?

The story of George Lucas's Star Wars, whatever problem there is, is still infinitely better than anything Disney Star Wars will ever hope it can create. It's just facts. But see, people should have understood that since George Lucas has been saying that corporate will destroy his creation because they are creatively bankrupt. Which is true. But hey, a big enough portion of the fanbase hated the Prequels and the direction he took the story in and let him know it enough and screamed at him to sell Star Wars. Welp, he did as they wanted and now Disney, the soulless and creatively bankrupt company, as George Lucas said they would, destroyed Star Wars. And George Lucas is billions of dollars richer. I say he came out of that deal infinitely well.

Bro, look: if you want to call the temple on Coruscant a Nexus meaning it’s a vergence, then fine. You do you. But I didn’t play a Jedi game, and do not ascribe that even the Jedi have the power of the force in an almost physical sense lingering around their very robes like mosquitos. Christ this is why you have ppl with their “head canon”. Anyway I don’t have to think that the Jedi temple has some kind of presence like that it was just the planet that the Jedi were left with control over that beings lived in. All the while other forces were about to take it over as they the jedi have lost the plot. Much like the USA 🇺🇸

Everything about SW is stupid since the prequels. Shall I enumerate? 1. robes. Every jedi is wearing robes. It's stupid. Robes are not an uniform, and jedi normally wants to remain hidden, but now a robe=jedi so it's stupid. Fighting in a robe=stupid. Abi Wan wore a robe because he was on a desert planet. Luke never wore a robe. 2. lightsabers are stupid. Obi Wan and Luke had them because they were just ancient obsolete weapons that Obi Wan just happen to save one. Darth Vader had a lightsaber because he is old. My guess is that lightsabers are just make shift weapons like muskets or crossbows. But now everything about lightsabers. Stupid. 3. kung-fu fights. Stupid. SW was never about fighting. Luke just fought to save his friends. Obi Wan was beaten and he became more powerful. Yoda never fought. SW was always about something bigger. The Rebels defeating the Empire. Luke saving his friends. Luke redeeming his father. But now SW are just fights. Stupid. 4. Jedi counsel. What even are they. They are more like the Tea Party. Why are they so political? It's stupid.

Nice try troll. 1. Robes aren’t obviously a sign of a Jedi as half the characters in the films wear robes and tunics of some description. And the Jedi wearing humble clothes makes sense. And they tend to avoid fighting in robes and removing them before fights. 2. The Lightsaber was never said to be obsolete and the OT already showed that it wasn’t. 3. Star *Wars* was never about the fighting what the heck are you taking? 4. The Jedi Council isn’t political it is simply the governing body of the Jedi Order as every religious group has a similar group.
@holz_name
@holz_name 2 месяца назад
@@emberfist8347 1. Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi wore the stupid robes in all three movies and they never took them off. In the Jedi vs Droid Army - Battle of Geonosis literally every single Jedi wore a stupid robe. In the Acolite every Jedi wears a robe. What please is humbling in wearing a robe? Jedi wear robes because the writers have no clue what a Jedi is and need to put them into uniforms so that stupid people can take their Member Berries. Oh robes, remember Obi Wan? Remember Yoda? 2. Obi Wan literally says that the lightsaber is a weapon from the ancient times. A lightsaber is vastly inferior to literally every weapon in SW. It's basically a musket vs. assault rifle. Yoda never had a lightsaber and never trained Luke in fighting. They use lightsaber because a sword fight among knights is just more interesting from a story telling perspective. It was a fight son vs. father, much more personal than blaster shooting. Vader also never used the lightsaber, except with Luke. He just chocked everybody to death. The Emperor was also never afraid of a stupid lightsaber. A lightsaber is basically a toy, Luke used it because it was somewhat useful. 3. Yes, it's Star Wars. Like in a war. Like something bigger than stupid king-fu fights. Obi-Wan just gave his life against Veda because it was not about him, but about the faith of the galaxy. The original saga was never about personal fights or grudges. Luke joined the Resistance because the Empire was evil and a threat to the Galaxy. He faced the Emperor because he wanted to redeem his father. Did you even watched the original SW? A lightsaber fight was never about the fight. Sure, they fought, but because it was a war. You cannot talk Dark Vader out of destroying a planet. At the end of Last Jedi Luke even throws away his lightsaber and refuses to fight. 4. The Jedi council leads a freaking interplanetary war in the Prequels. How much more political can it get??? Also in the Acolite here, the Jedi infiltrate a different culture and destroy it. In the original SW Luke only helped his friends and tried to redeem his father. I'm sure if the Empire didn't blow up planets, the Jedi wouldn't care. But now the Jedi are some sort of Karens of the galaxy. (of course that's because of the writers who make everything about politics now)
