Let's Make Firewood - 2023 #16 In this video I'm working near the dam, pulling some logs from the woodpiles, bucking with the Millers Falls Swing Saw or using the trusty Stihl MS261 CM,. Making progress, one log pile at a time .....
one of them days, a lot of work but little firewood to show, but I am clearing the forest and making it look more natural, and helping it repair, all the time. Thanks for watching Daniel
You need a set of forks for the chook so that you can load the forks directly from the stack and then have the wood sitting on the forks right at the saw. The less rolling around of the wood the sharper your saws will stay by not having as much grit in them. A lot less walking and lifting if you use the chook as well.
hey Alan, chook? slang for Excavator? Getting some forks is a good idea, I've been thinking about doing that anyway, I'm toying with the idea of delivering firewood in IBC's loaded in trailer and then using a power pallet fork to deliver into people's garages? See if it will take off. They sell wheelie bins loads of wood around here and it sells well, people happy to pay for the lack of delivery mess and stacking. Watch this space ..... and I'll watch my bank account to see what it'll cost me to set up
How can you own/drive an excavator and not know that they are referred to as chooks? Actually a quick google shows that the nickname isn't nearly as extensively used as I thought :O On my channel there's an old VHS video or 2 that dates back to when I cut wood for a living. The wheeled chook in the video had "Express Wood" or "Wood Express" signwritten on it. The neighbour whose processors I worked on and used had the idea to sell in wheelie bins about 30 years ago. Not 1 wheelie bin load got sold. We cut vast amounts of wood but sold it to a wood merchant in Balranald. Not sure that we could have sold/delivered 20T of redgum a day but I am pretty sure the profit would have been higher. The father in law and I cut 20T a day on the "little" saw. I don't actually know how much Gerard cut with the "big" saw. It could hack it's way through a 2ft diameter redgum log in a few seconds though.
@@Alan_Hans__ ha ha, I did google it and even looked in the aussie slang dictionary. 😁 learn something new everyday. Re firewood sales…. That’s my fear too, put in effort and $$ and don’t get the return. I’ll keep looking into it.
