Let's listen to the difference when you replace an op amp in a Douk Audio U3 Amp. I have no idea what I'm doing so watch me try and figure it out and get stabbed with one.
00:00 Intro
01:27 Stock amp sound
03:57 Replacing the stock amp
04:49 BB op amp
7:40 Replacing the BB amp (and getting stabbed)
9:00 Todiys amp and conclusion
If anyone wants the op amp models let me know in the comments thanks for watching!
The first alternative option I showed is the OPA2134PA from Burr Brown 2rd OP amp is the Todiys LM4562NA which I found both on Amazon.

Actually it is a pretty good headamp, especially for the money. I've replaced op amp in mine with muses 8820 and... sold my Topping L30. It is more fun for me to listen to music on this setup.

Definitely heard the Burr-Brown bass compared to the stock. That’s a nice aggressive sound for the dance floor. Will try that op-amp in a DJ controller to see how the dancers respond.

Why is the third Todiys much quieter? What is the exact types of the op-amps? Todiys TL072CP for example? Thanks for the video!

I must have made an adjustment in the audio level without realizing it I noticed that as well. In practice it's about the same volume. I'll update the description with the op amps thanks for watching!

Great video, the OPA2134PA is currently EOL and I can't find it from non-chinese retailers (I'm honestly scared to buy fakes). Do you have any recommendation for OPA2134PA alternatives in 2023? I'm currently browsing the lowest THD+N chips by Texas Instrument like the OPA1612, OPA1611, OPA1622 and the OPA1632 but I'm not entirely sure of what I should be looking for to prevent compatibility issues. The stock NE5532 and the OPA2134PA apparently have very different operational specs, does any OPAMP work as long as the form factor is identical? (I have no issues with soldering if needed) Thank you again for the video!
@hackinghifi4247

Sure thing! As far as I can tell the form factor was the same I think you can use whatever you like.

Does the stock amp has neutral sounding character? Or do I need to look for other op amp? I'm looking for neutral sound since I sometimes will be using it for assisting in audio mixing process.

It’s been a while since I listened to it stock but it has less bass than some of the replacements so I’m assuming it’s more neutral. Thanks for watching!

my favorites for just enjoy music are the trulis ha8802 it have some oldschool musical analog flavor , then if you want more analitic crisp sound the truliz ha8801 is just perfect, no need to invest in more expensive op amps with those two, its like some nerd just did the resume of perfect op amps for headphones in just two flavors. the douk u3 is a very nice amp, it works better at 12v instead of using a 5v cellphone charger or usb port, im planning to recap mine with some nichicon caps

Thanks for your input! Can you explain how the 12 volt charger works and where to buy one? I’ve been worried since I tried an hdmi splitter with the wrong adapter and smelled molten plastic lol. Also how I go about buying the op amps you mentioned. Thanks!

Main thing with me is CLARITY. It doesn't have to be absolutely neutral/sterile but it MUST be clean &open with enough bass going on :) So w/e gives you that is what I'd want :)

I think you dont necessarly need 12V,you just need to feed it more than 5W

Hi, I bought the u3 to replace my Kenwood basic c2 connected to the PC as a headphone amp but I was disappointed by the 30-40hz zone which on the U3 is much lower than the Kenwood preamp. Do you think that by replacing the 5532d I can get more presence of that bass? Which ones? Thankyou.

I found the amp did make a difference in terms of tone, definitely for bass. Plus it’s fun to try different things. I did a walkthrough on setting up equalizer apo also, you could probably get the same thing from that just using free software if you want to try that.

@@hackinghifi4247 I have, and it is an effective upgrade for the money that seemed tailored to my Rode NTH-100's, and HD580's. I ended up swapping the caps to Nichicon as well, and landed on a Muses 02 opamp ($45), but I already had that to spare from another amplifier build. I wouldn't recommend buying an 02 for this as it destroys the value proposition. It is exactly my cup of tea though.
