Uh, maybe because the tribal police "investigator" assigned to the case is a nephew of the tribal chief? Or, maybe, a pissing contest between tribal police and local authorities over jurisdiction? I've seen both..... I assure you, NO ONE wants to see a Native American woman abused, killed, missing or neglected, certainly not here in Oklahoma. When such cases come to light one can pretty much bet other factors are at play.....often tribal politics.

the news today is about profits as any business is. not saying this is right but rather reality. catering to white news watchers/listeners will bring these companies the most money. if the money was catering to another ethnic group, then that group would be the focus. whites are most interested in white stuff, blacks are interested in their people/culture, etc... it is not limited to news, it includes movies, music, clothes, etc...
@raptango_na6199
@raptango_na6199 2 года назад
The reason is because people are interested in what happens to others who are like them. They care more about what happens in their neighborhood than across the world. They care more about what happens to people who they can relate to in a personal way. So they click on those stories. If indigenous people were a majority in this country then those stories would get all the attention.

@John Smith lol. OK. I'll give you this one Smith. Both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day are now Federal Holidays. It is petty enough of a point for me to acknowledge your petty victory. Does it feel as good as you'd hoped? It represents a cultural change for the better; no matter how much you may disagree, it's good to acknowledge Indigenous Peoples as contributing members of our society. Edit: It's good to give them more attention than the long dead people who initiallly subjugated them.
@cheriann6461

@John Smith If you really believed that, then you wouldn't spend so much time trolling. People who are secure in themselves and their views don't have an overwhelming compulsion to force others to agree, when there is nothing at stake. Only the truly ignorant and self-righteous believe themselves to be in a position to correct others, by being stubborn and antagonistic on internet sites (it's a real sign of insecurity and a need for approval). I meant all I said about having some pity for you. Healthy, happy, secure people just don't behave this way. Genuinely intelligent people find much more pleasing and productive ways to pass time.

I wish we were able to face our US history the way so many Canadians do yours. We can't make better choices in the future if we never admit that we've made horrific decisions in the past. @katie6731
@katie6731 2 года назад
@@erismana2105 I was looking up the tax situation for casinos earlier, and ended up pretty confused. "Native Americans are U.S. citizens, and unlike their tribes, individuals are subject to federal income taxes. Even exempt tribal income can be taxed when distributed to individual members of the tribe. One of the more complicated provisions of [Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988] permits Native American tribes to make per capita distributions of revenue from gaming activities to tribe members. These per capita distributions are taxed. But Some Payments to Native Americans are Exempt. Some “general welfare” payments to individuals under social benefit programs are not taxed. In general, to be tax-free, payments must be made under a governmental program; be for the promotion of general welfare (i.e., based generally on individual, family or other needs); and not be compensation for services" (source: www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2012/10/11/native-american-casino-and-tax-rules-that-may-surprise-you/ ). Some taxes also depend on whether a member of a tribe lives on reservation land or not. As far as laws, Native casinos have to comply with OSHA and minimum wage requirements. So, that makes me think there's a lot more federal, state, and local government involvement in the casinos than we know. It all seems set up to cause people to make tax and legal mistakes or have to hire people to wade through the overlapping regulations.
@stephm.3407
@stephm.3407 2 года назад
Not sure how much my comment has to do with anything, but one thing we have seen in So Cal is that the tribes with the casinos have had pretty big purges of their rolls, throwing out families that have played big roles in the tribes for generations over the casino money. Unfortunately corruption is not limited to non- indigenous folks, but taxing them probably doesn't fix much while we give tax breaks to d-bags like Musk & Bezos.

My family has picked acorns there for thousands of years and it's used in our ceremonial dinners. Those oak trees are really rare and hard to find. So saving that from being a huge pit mine would be awesome. It's really sad because that canyon is extremely beautiful and open pit mining is a horrible scar that this planet doesn't need.

Beau, thank you for drawing attention to this cause. Not only is it an incredibly important place to save for the Indigenous People, but this mining project an absolute ecological disaster that would completely destroy a very beautiful and very popular recreation area. To make things even worse, for all the damage done to our beautiful land, Arizonans would not see a single cent of the profit. We've made great progress in stopping this travesty, and I hope we can rubber stamp permanent protection of the land.

Being a german, it always raises questions why there hasn't been significant changes on the treatment of the indigenous peoples of America. Germany for instance is paying reparations to the countries who suffered under our dictatorship. Why isn't this a thing in the US? Why are there still reservations which can not sustain their inhabitants. It's really odd, isn't it. I hope future generations will truly give back what belongs to the indigenous people. By the way that The Warriors shirt is ace.

One of the great American battles we are now in is for the past. On one side will be people determined to celebrate the Christian European dominance of America and are working hard to instill those beliefs in White children. The other side wants the American history of slavery, genocide, and oppression to be told and not suppressed by White Supremacy. As the demographics of America continue to change the battle will become more intense.

Thank you for spreading the word Beau! I urge all that can, to help Native American culture thrive. In Wisconsin we have been able to stop the Crandon mine from destroying the Mole lake Forest Indian Tribe lands. Now we are trying to stop wolf hunts. The wolf is a spiritual animal to Wisconsin natives. Every year we also collect donations and send a semi full of needed goods to the Rosebud Tribe in South Dakota. Most tribes already have some type of system or cause already in place. Just takes a phone call and they can direct you on how to help.
