I think the Rory in the revival is very real. Many people who do well in academia find that life outside of it is very different and they do not succeed in it. It is hard to watch but to me it seemed very real.

It was sad to watch, but tbh it seemed like a realistic consequence for someone who was so privileged and had had her problems solved all her life by those around her.

Yeah and if you rewatch the show it makes sense. She's enabled in her selfishness and disabled in her personal growth. She's a child like waif turned dropout and criminal. The whole small town being obsessed with her is just plain weird.

I think the main issue with Loreli and Rory’s relationship is that Loreli says they are best friends first. My mom says that’s not how parents should be, especially when your child is very young, you need to be a parent first and friend second and once your child is grown up then it’s fine to be more of a friend to them. Which makes scene because let’s face it, every time Loreli takes on the roll of a mom and tell Rory no or shows her authority to her Rory doesn’t want to listen.

you're so accurate. rory just ignore her, and make lorelai think she is betraying their relationship. consequence of that is when rory is ARRESTED and lorelai is so comprehensive, blaming rory's new friends and boyfriend bc rory is so great and wouldn't do that so "all she needs is support" thing is what lorelai does.

I considered my mom my friend, but I knew she was my mom first and if I did something I wasn't suppose to , Mom would be there to set me straight. You can be your kids friend, but you have to be a parent first , it is good to encourage your kids to do their best at whatever they want to accomplish, just don't put them so high on the pedestal, so that when they fall, it is worse than Humpty Dumpty's fall.

The final point you made on how season 1-3,4 Rory was so much different to the revival Rory made me think that she is more like Christopher than we thought. She is always portrayed as super similar to Lorelei but Lorelei is super driven and never gives up and has always worked really hard for her life and has made tough decisions. Lorelei sheltered her kid and with the lack of boundaries made Rory a mini Chris, a privileged kid who has extremely high expectations of themselves then the minute they do bad just falls apart. Chris had a tough time keeping a job or being able to provide and only in his thirties did he get it together and also he inherited money.

Lorelai and Luke (Small business owners). Sookie and Jackson (Foodies). Lane and Zach (Musicians). Based on the trend that we see in this show written by a husband and wife duo, I think it's very clear that Rory and Jess are meant to be seeing that they ended up in the same place as writers by helping each other get there just like all the afforementioned couples on the show did in some way.

@scarletj8180 2 года назад
That's an interesting observation. Jess and Rory both writing-- Rory even wanted to write a novel in the revival (more Jess-oriented than newpaper Logan). It also builds on the circular theme, where Rory ends up pregnant in the end, and we know she will follow where Lorelai led, and Logan is Christopher and Jess is Luke, and there is no need to have any more episodes, because we know it will play out in parallel to the previous episodes.

Love that analysis! I grew up with these characters so it means a lot to see the show still being relevant somehow. Then again, I hated how they gave all the women in the show their worst fear as a life in the revival. Rory didn't have what it takes, Lorelai never got it all, Emily ended up without Richard, Lane became her mother. Sure that's real life, but where is my escapism?

Rory was relatable in seasons 1-3, she went through all of the typical teenage girl things, dealing with bullies, having your first boyfriend, first breakup and even a love triangle and things like that. One thing I really liked about that was how realistic it was and it was similar to how teenage girls would react to those situations and that's why so many people loved her, because she was somewhat relatable and realistic. In season 4 she began attending Yale and in season 5 in her sophomore year, she met Logan Sulzberger. This is a key to the plot line and her complex character and how she reacts to things differently, specifically how she begins to become an unrealistic character due to being told that she was perfect her whole life and being treated like a god by those around her. Rory begins writing for the paper that Logan's father owns - Mr Sulzberger. If I'm correct I believe that he didn't want her there because she just didn't have 'it'. That was most likely one of the first times Rory had ever been criticised in her life. Now, Rory was treated like she was perfect by those around her in the earlier seasons. She was always told how smart she was, and so she didn't really receive criticism a lot and she was perfectly used to that. So back to the plot, and Mr Sulzberger tells her she just doesn't have what it takes, and so Rory decides to react to that by stealing a Yatch with Logan. Instead of either studying or finding comfort in a friend, she does that. This begins to make her an incredibly unrealistic character and it really shows the effects of Pressure and specifically not being able to take criticism. Let's be honest, if you got rejected, would any of you steal a boat? At the end of the day, when all's said and done, Rory is one of the worst characters. (There are so many more things that I could say about her especially when she slept with Dean when he was Married) Another point I want to make is the fact that Rory was a bit entitled at times. She 'doesn't agree' with her grandparents lavish lifestyle, however when she's having dinner with the Sulzbergers, Rory says 'but i'm a Gilmore!' she automatically assumed that they would accept her into their family just because her grandparents had money. I think she became used to her grandparents giving her things, especially when she was younger, her grandparents would constantly tell her how good she was doing in school and buy her things even though Rory never asked for it. However when it got to season 5 she moved into her grandparents pool house, wasn't talking to her mother because she disagreed with her for a change. Emily even goes against her social morals and even has a go at Mrs Sulzberger, which would be entirely out of line for a lady of her social standing considering Mrs Sulzberger was higher on the economic-social ladder. Richard and Emily might not be the best characters in the series, but they certainly spoiled Rory an awful lot. And that is why Rory was so entitled.

@@dalewall3726 I see what you say and I agree that Rory is the worst, the worst in disguise, as we grew to adore her for the first 3 seasons. Meeting Logan is a plot twist, but imho not because Rory starts acting untrealisticaslly. She is not unrealistic, she is just unrelatable. She belongs to the 0.5% and while in Yale she starts revealing herself as such. We label her attitude unrealistic only because we can' relate. When you have money and connections (when you have power) you can lose your act and steal a boat, something that normal people learn to inhibit since a very young age. We normal people are bounded to be decent and principled. Rory is a disconnected young lady because she can afford to be so. I don't want to say that rich, connected people are all undecent, like Emily is a rather principled person, in her own way. She is privileged but she grew up knowing that privilege comes with rules, if anything for a matter of facade and peer expectation. Rory was misleadingly raised as one of us, but she never was: she got the privilege without the rules. So... she's a mess, actually, and she fooled us all for quite some time.

I dislike the idea that Rory has learned so little in the 10 years. I’d like to think that she’d learned not to act like a privileged primadonna in a job interview, and not to repeat her Dean mistake with Logan. But maybe that’s human nature
@spique32
@spique32 2 года назад
At first Rory struggling so much in the reboot was really jarring, but then upon reflection, it felt in line in how she always has problems accepting her privilege or learning from her mistakes. As someone with a similar-ish trajectory in life, it kinda felt relatable. The one thing that I could not stand was how horrendously she treated Paul, while also being Logan's mistress. I can understand her being caught up with Logan once or twice, and maybe not being a great girlfriend to Paul, but that way it was executed was horrible to watch. The other stuff were more like failures, flaws etc, but her behaviour with Logan & Paul bordered on unethical, which has always rubbed me the wrong way.

I might of misunderstood but I think the online website job was supposed to show us that Rory is struggling but she also has a huge ego and thinks she's better than a lot of things (probably from growing up and having everyone tell you how perfect you are). She is invited to have an interview but she assumes that it was a done deal job offer. She feels like this was the validation that she deserved due to her past accomplishments and she didn't consider that it wasn't, therefore she didn't prepare. In my opinion it was supposed to show that she lacks humility and that has hurt her in the years since Yale.

That's honestly a really good point!! I think when I was looking at the website job, it just felt so far from what season one Rory wanted to do by being "in the trenches" that it felt like a letdown that she couldn't even get on a gossip website writing job, but I think you're right. I think it really does show us how much Rory in the reboot felt like she as above an online job, which also is mainly what we all do now anyway! I think it does show how she felt like they were just giving her the job, and she should have been way more prepared for an interview. Pretty lame of her to walk in there and expect they give her a job. Good points! Thanks for sharing!

Love this analysis! I think that at the beginning of the show Rory was such an inspirational character to everyone, her motives were right and she supposedly ‘knew’ what she was going to do when she was older- but throughout her downfall, more and more of her true self was revealed, showing the pressure she was under from people around her yet she was always told that she could push through no matter what- but her confidence to actually push was never quite there, her tendencies to give up when things weren’t working out led her to spiral. As we watch the revival we can see Rory’s desperation for a job actually helped her to realise not everything is handed to her and she needs to continue to work hard for the things she needs in life. This also reflects on Lorelai’s past and how she had to build up her own life for herself without help from other people.

Rory was a good cautionary tale. She is an example of why students need to be rewarded for effort, not ability. When Rory was in the early seasons wearing a pleated skirt and blazer, she was the darling of the town and an angel. She was judged as super smart and it was effortless. She knew how to appear smart and everyone was impressed by her having a pile-o' -books. She was given her Yale admission for being a legacy student. When she met Mitchum Huntzberger, that was the first time people stopped being impressed by her pile-o'-books. She was completely unprepared for it. It was the first time she was not told she is the best and given everything. She had her downfall from there. The concept of continuing things she was not good at right away was foreign to her. She saw no point in effort because she was lead to believe she was innately superior.

Looking back at the series, seasons 1 - 7, Rory had a very co-dependent relationship with her mom. And she never got, not until after college, the chance to be on her own. Except, here's the thing, the only time Lorelai ever says anything about what college Rory may want is Season 1 Episode 4. Rory, says to her mom, "What 'we' want." She says, "we want". Not what "I" want. And season three we get to see this dynamic play out between Harvard and Yale Lorelai vs. Richard in manipulating Rory to stay close by. They don't care to ask her whatsoever what Rory wants. What does Rory want? Rory says, she wanted to study Political Science and Journalism. And she does her best. There is a problem: Lorelai and all of Stars Hollow, including Richard and Emily, have put Rory up on a pedestal. Not a good idea. And because of that when it came time to a performance review from Huntzberger, she's let down. And strewn. She doesn't know what to do. And I get it, but you don't go out and steal a boat. And to be honest, couldn't she have just called Logan to be by her side. (I wouldn't wanted to have gone out, I would have gone home and perhaps call him to come over. ) Her taking a break from college... I don't mind so much. Now I know it causes a rift between her and her mom, to be honest. i think it was a good thing. She needs to not have her mom around so much. However, living with her grandparents... is okay... but not in her best interest. The best interest for Rory is to choose to want to go back on her own. Lorelai, did know that, but she was also trying to force Rory to face college with no aspects, which I would not mind have watching, just now thinking that over. Except Lorelai never asked outright, "Do you want to do this?" She assumes it's about the Huntzbergers, no question. The only person who asks her what she wants is Jess, who comes right out and says it. Lorelai, I think on some level, always assumed, Rory would want what she wanted for her. The same way, Emily felt about Lorelai, but neither parents asks what they're child wants. Also, I would have loved to see at least one character who was not in love with Rory. And she had a hard time getting along with that person. There's that one guy in season 4, Will. But not much comes from it. I would have it be a girl other than the ballerina. (And apparently Rory felt she liked she had to salvage her writing piece to write about the ballerina,) But it would have been nice, to see someone over a longer period of time who she just didn't get along with. It would have been interesting to see how that played out. Yeah, I know there was Paris in the beginning, but that's also why I'd really want to have seen it. What would Paris do to the one girl, who just didn't get along with her only friend? And her mom, what would she have done, because you know Rory would have said something to her about it. Revival Rory, disappointed me. But also reviewing a couple other comments and thinking it over, i have yet to re-watch it, I can see it... to a degree. I understand the floundering aspects. I like seeing the fact you never know where you'll end up. She didn't count on it, and to that extent, it felt real. However, the fact is she can't escape Logan. Jess is more matured. And Dean is... well, wistful. To be honest. I wished, that she had wanted Paul. He was stable and kind. On the professional scale, and that interview, coming unprepared to an interview is completely unacceptable no matter how much you think the job is yours. And let's be honest, everyone knew Rory felt the job was beneath her. She needed a job, her acting that way was out of character and completely unprofessional. All in all, Rory who's supposed to think things through, we find out that she doesn't. Not to mention, I never saw her as a journalist. Maybe in the beginning, in season 1 through 3. But after that, in college and in the Huntzberger office, I don't think when it's said and done, she's not a journalist. I don't see her as a teacher, but she's a coordinator. Like her mom, she knows how to plan and coordinate. She can be a writer, but really she's more of an editor. That's where her talent lies.

I also think seasons 1-3 of Rory was much more believable as a journalist for sure. I don't think Mitchum's comments would have hit her so hard if, like you said, the town and her family hadn't put her up on a pedestal. Oh one hundred percent. The reboot feels like a relatively soon continuation of the story. It's jarring to try to make it fit into place if we're going with the idea that ten years have passed, as they decided to do. Lots of things just don't feel like a ten-years-later situation to be in. Like, Lorelai and Luke not only have still never gotten married but also have apparently never even broached the subject of whether they'd like to try to have another kid??? That's something that would have come up in ten years' time. They should have either pretended less time had gone by and just expected all of us to roll with the actors looking a little older than they were supposed to, or else they should have been willing to scrap the story beats that had been planned out next and actually thought about what all might have happened in a span of ten years. Cause it feels like they really didn't bother to envision what ten years later really looks like.

what i noticed very early on in the show rory was accustomed to getting things handed to her or things coming easy for her. to sum things up she never really heard the word no. on the other hand, she was a very hard working student and an overall relatable character in the earlier seasons that wasn’t the stereotypical unrealistic high school student portrayal on most tv shows. i remember when i was younger and would watch the show with my mom i looked up to rory as an enjoyable character. however, in the later seasons she became very unlikeable. season 3 rory was the beginning of her downfall, she became almost disrespectful, and i think this was an obvious result of lorelai never saying no to her and building a best friend dynamic with her daughter instead of a parenting dynamic likely due to being so young when she had rory. whenever lorelai would lay boundaries or say no to rory she never listened, well because she wasn’t used to actual parenting and hearing the word no. she often tried to paint herself out as innocent when she clearly was in the wrong in most situations. highschool rory i’d say was the most realistic and likable rory. yale rory was such an unlikeable character, when i felt like i should side with her because she was the protagonist i just couldn’t. she had such an immature nature and turned very entitled. you could see this early on for example when she got into an argument with a guy sitting under the tree she usually sits at. this is one of the signs that she is used to getting what she wants and won’t take no for an answer. what i liked about jess was that he was brutally honest. he wasn’t perfect by any means and he had his unlikeable sides. in season 6 i liked how he was upfront with her. he couldn’t even recognize her anymore and told her how it is. another time we noticed she’s never really been told no or been criticized, as she’s been painted out as the golden child her whole life was when mr sulzberger told her that she just didn’t have what it took. instead of taking in the criticism and studying like highschool her would’ve likely done, she threw a tantrum and stole a yacht with logan. even alexis bledel expressed how shocked she was over how out of character rory became on the script in the later seasons. in the reboot she never had any sort of development or redemption. i was ready to be disappointed and well, i was. she was stubborn and obnoxious throughout the entire reboot and threw the same tantrums she did in the original. at the job interview she was so unprofessional and then was shocked that she didn’t get the job. this is yet another result of the special treatment she received growing up and honestly it turned her into a very unlikeable character overall.

I also agree the reboot was disappointing, if we had seen her learn and grow since we last left her it would have been a much better story than, "I learned nothing, and still am entitled" Thanks for your comment! No one ever talks about this, but I feel it is obvious from the moment Rory meets Logan's father that he blackballs her from every prospective job she tries to get from top to bottom except for the one she turns down. Even when he sees Logan and Rory in the restaurant in the year in the life, and she tells him of two prospective jobs that she feels sure of, they both fall through. I feel sure he made certain she never got a job in journalism. I think the grandparents did some things to make him continue this for as long as he carried any clout with all these different journalism outlets. These were bottom of the barrel jobs she really didn't want but was desperate. She was better than this, she deserved better but she couldn't stay away from Logan and so she suffered the consequences. Sad the story went this way but she didn't follow the plan, her life plan.

I do think at points he blackballs her, but idk by the reboot time I think he would have moved onto more important stuff than trying to continue to blackball Rory. Also, yes his parents could have know, but as far as we're aware Logan and Rory broke-up at the graduation and his parents aren't aware of her since then. So idk maybe the scene in AYITL resparked his dislike of her, but idk could be...these are the things I wish we knew for sure because it's so confusing sometimes when the reboot is included to know what happens! Also I heard ASP never watched season seven which adds another whole confusing aspect to this because she wouldn't have known where the characters left off so that in and of itself could be one reason why it's kinda confusing to know what happens.

She should have realized early on why she wasn't getting those jobs though. She was a smart girl. Disagree with that whole statement. Why would he do that? Why would he be that scared of a little girl taking on a journalism job that he needs to go to that much trouble and blackball her. I don’t think he cared about her being with Logan that much to be honest to try to ruin her professionally. He thought she didn’t have it, so why would he think he needed to do stuff to make sure she didn’t get positions? Him thinking she didn’t have it alone would have him not even thinking about it again. I think he was right that she didn’t have what it took and that’s why she got the crappy jobs and didn’t prepare herself for interviews cause she thought so highly of herself but she truly didn’t have what it takes to be in those roles. She and those around her in her younger years ruined it for herself buy always praising her and making her out to be gods greatest gift that ever existed. She was constantly called perfect by everyone and Mitchum was the first one to tell her otherwise. I doubt Mitchum ever gave her another thought after Rory said no to the engagement.

I don't feel Rory from s1 and Rory from the reboot are different people, I definitely feel that 15 years have passed though!! if she was the same in her early 30s as she was at 16 it would be very weird. People grow up, they become more cynical, they lose a bit of their bright eyed idealism. They find out that being good at school doesn't always translate to being successful in life. They make compromises and learn to live with them and accept that life might take a different path than they imagined back then. I have always related very hard to Rory, despite being very different from her, and I still related to her super hard in the reboot. I adored Gilmore girls as I was younger. As someone who on training to be a political analyst myself, keep informed thanks to the work of great journalists, Logan's dad's doubts about Rory making a good journalist were really brought to perspective. Good journalists are clever people with a sense of justice like Rory has, but do I really see her downing bottles of vodka to get through another air raid in a war zone, helping to uncover the Abu graib scandal, dealing with harassment and death threats because her work puts people out? I mean, granted journalists who go through that are a precious, rare kind, but those are the types Rory wants to be. I think Rory is a character who sacrifices who she is and where her talents lie for what others expect of her. Interestingly enough, people have become exemplary journalists who have come from privileged backgrounds. There is Martha Gelhorn, who reported in Spain during the Spanish civil war, married and later divorced Hemingway, but, just by seeing so much misery she became so disillusioned.

But once she goes off to Yale, she has fully adjusted to the feeling of having money and family connections to fall back on. She doesn't struggle academically, and once she starts dating Logan, she REALLY doesn't hurt for money since Logan pretty much pays for everything (and her grandparents are paying for school). Mitchum telling her that she's not a natural fit for her dream job is really the first time that someone gives her really critical feedback, and she has no self-reliance coping mechanisms to fall back on since so much of her path to that point got taken care of for her. And then in the revival, she seems to have done very little growing up, but once again, her connection to wealth and privilege and general lack of struggle is probably to blame. She's not just a successful writer. She is also presumably living off the trust fund that Lorelai the First set up for her. (Also, I one hundred percent would have pegged Rory as an Enneagram 3, not a 5. I'm a 5. Rory does not strike me as a fellow 5. Seems like a very hard 3.)

here’s my thing: if we’re talking about who Rory should have gone with, I am definitely team logan. In the original show (because i refuse to acknowledge the reboot) he was, at least by the end, the best of the three when it came to communication. He wasn’t perfect, and I do love Jess also, but Logan was definitely more healthily developed as a person and was working on himself. However, although I’m well decided on who Rory should have gone with, I don’t think any of them should have gone with her. Rory was getting steadily worse as a character. She was entitled and lacked self awareness. I genuinely think she would have been bad for Jess by the end of the show and probably for Logan too. She was treating so many people in her life badly.

Offf harsh but so true! I don't think any of them should have chosen her either by the end. Guys, i dont get why many of you are surprised by Rorys downfall? It was inevitable for her, unless she would go studying to California or abroad. She lived up to other ppl expectations, she lived and followed her mothers dreams and wishes, she didnt have actual space to be on her own for real to figure out who she is without lorelei and what it is that she really likes. Its no wonder she ended lost and confused and ao messed up in her 30s. The main problem of Rory is she never knew herself. And she needed to figure it out. On her own. Money isnt a problem. Its more how she learnt her environment treated her (mother, grandparents, town folks). Some distance from all of them would be good for her. I know the show is a nice mix of reality and fantasy. And sure writers could take Rory to different more fantasy like path, but her downfoal is real and true to Rorys backstory, so i agree with writers on this 😃

the last section is more Rory vs you. If you compare Rory the teenager vs Rory the adult, she's the same. I think it's sad when you like the character, but it might be what she needed. I liked it wasn't the perfect ending. At one point, you stopped being the golden child. She might have been too old to be at the point of figuring out stuff, but it happen to some people. Sometimes, people that were so mature/advance for the age, get stuck.

There were a couple times when Rory was called out. Most memorably for me were when Logan woke her up to the fact that she was just as privileged as all the rich kids she made fun of and when Jess told her to get herself figured out and go back to Yale. The problem is that Rory has so much to fall back on. She doesn't often NEED to change, because she'll always be provided for.

I guess the original writers didn't write the 7th season so the revival had a lot of the elements they originally intended for the 7th season. This makes a lot more sense to me because revival Rory's personality would have been more relatable if she was 22-23, but in her early/mid 30's it seems immature. Her problem imo was always seeing herself above something and then going after it later on, like rejecting the ProJo job for a shot at the NYT and rejecting Logan thinking she would have to compromise if she stayed with him. Then we see her in the revival wanting a "regular" job and going back to Logan

He didn’t challenge her the way Jess did. Sure Logan got her out of her shell a little, but Jess challenged her in a deeper way. I do think Logan was partly that way because he was so chafing against the life laid out for him by his dad. He wasn't so different from Lorelai, except he wasn't willing to give up the life of privilege, so instead he just rebelled out of spite. He did at least know exactly how privileged he was, which was a step above Rory. XD But yeah, Jess knew how to call Rory out without tearing her down.

Commenting as I watch but my impression of Rory is that she didn’t want to tell about Dean because she knew Lorelai would overreact and think Rory was repeating the mistakes Lorelai made and throwing away her life and Lorelai had a plan for her daughter. Which is ironic because that’s exactly what her parents had for her and she had to hide. Rory hid Jess for similar reasons and because Lorelai hated him so much. Lorelai was extremely judgmental of Rory’s relationship choices and expected Rory to be perfect. Lorelai was stifling like her parents…with the difference being, Lorelai had more ability to self reflect and correct herself in her relationship to Rory. Ok. Back to listening.

Here is my take. Rory is her mother. During her teen years she rebelled against her mother. It was a conservative rebellion. She was the complete opposite of her mother . Rory took her studies seriously and did not get pregnant. Rory got into the dream school her mother wanted to get into but could not because she got pregnant. Later Rory started to evolve more into the unserious immature person that is her mother. Rory may seem like she likes the upper class life more than her mother, but her mother loves it also. Her mother loves having the safety net of her parents money when her zany behavior gets her in trouble.

I guess I understand why Amy wanted the ending that we got, but I think a much better full circle would have been Lorelai helping out a young single mom just like she was, rather than Rory being pregnant.

So... I'm gonna drop a bombshell because I just noticed that Rory was 32 in the revival. The Revival ISN'T CANON. Let me explain before you go nuts. It was established in Season 1 Episode 18: "The Third Lorelai", that Rory has a TRUST FUND. Rory gets access to the trust fund when she turns 25. She would have turned 25 in between 1-2 years after she graduated from Yale. It is impossible for Rory's life, in the revival, to be such a mess because she would have had 7 years to learn and get used to managing such a small fortune that could have made her grow up to be more stable, and honestly, make her whole being broke situation non existent. I highly doubt that so many people around her would have let her blow through a small fortune in just 7 years. Specially not Richard, since it's his beloved mother who set up the trust fund for Rory and it would be impossible for him to sit back and watch Rory waste his mothers money. He would most likely be the one to teach her and help her set up some form of financial portfolio to make her dream life more sustainable. And Richard is supposed to only have died at the beginning of the Revival, giving him plenty of time to influence Rory about financial matters. So Rory becoming the entitled millennial we see in the Revival is just ludicrous. It would be more realistic and believable to find Rory embracing a life that was actually closer to the life that Emily and Richard built for themselves, but with a more modern independence, than the mess we were given in the Revival. The only thing I would agree with is her failure in becoming a journalist because her choice in career always felt like it mostly stemmed from the fact that she dreamed of traveling all over the world and had a deep enjoyment of writing and literature. Actually, she would have made an amazing educator.

My thoughts are this. Yes, it's fine to be your kid's friend. The one that they can count on to be there when you need anything. It isn't okay to pretend that your child isn't a human being that is bound to make mistakes in life and you blame everyone else EXCEPT your child for their mistakes because "my child can do no wrong and was raised to be everything wholesome and innocent." That is basically like telling your kid that they have no brain and can't ever make their own mistakes to figure out right and wrong in their own ways. Yes, most of us are aware of what is morally and ethically wrong. Stealing a boat is beyond stupid and that WAS Rory's fault for pushing Logan to do it. Rory even tried to tell Lorelai that it was her idea and Lorelai brushed it off blaming Logan. That is not okay. When the car accident happened and Lorelai blamed Jess, again not listening to Rory when she said it wasn't Jess' fault and that it was just an unfortunate accident that occurred. Lorelai had very unreasonable ideas about who her child was because she had her pegged as the child "who does no wrong," and would never possibly make mistakes simply from being human. She seemed to react better upon finding out that Rory was pregnant and was planning to raise the kid as a single mom, but it's not at all unrealistic to believe that parents act this way about their children. I myself was always seen (and still am) as someone who is gullible, naive, too trusting, too nice and allow people to take advantage and use and abuse me. That couldn't be further from the truth. I am just a human being who has found their share of toxic people in life but cut them all out afterwards and now live my life the way I wish to and I'm more keen on trusting my gut when it comes to shady people and red flags, as opposed to ignoring it all in an effort to be kind and liked by everyone because in reality, those people did not care for or even like me. They just saw me as a kind person with a good heart and used it to their advantage. That's how life works. Not everyone is evil or manipulative, you just have to go through shit in order to figure out who is really good for you and genuinely cares.
@AVintageJoy

I totally agree that Lorelai looked at Rory way too much as if she could do no wrong. I think in both of your examples that Rory had an equal part to play! I've been there before with people seeing you a certain way, and it's really sucky. I hope you have wonderful people in your life now that are just as excited about your friendship and companionship as you are to them!

@@AVintageJoy thanks! Yeah, 13 months ago, a guy that I've loved for the last almost 10 years now came back into my life and together we've worked together to rebuild our lives from the ground up. It is because of him that I now love myself, life and can finally move past my past once and for all. I no longer live in misery, smiling every day and improving myself and my life every day and he's doing the same. Together, we are growing, learning, healing and so much more. The trick is to retrain your brain to erase the negative ways you think of yourself and life to truly be happy, healthy and confident in every area. It doesn't happen overnight and it took about four months to see a difference and I still struggle sometimes but don't allow it to affect me negatively. I push through and continue on the positive route. Nobody needs negativity period. ❤️❤️❤️

@@AVintageJoy oh absolutely! It is certainly a challenge but a beautiful one! I'm excited for the future and feel truly alive for the first time since meeting the man who has been my rock, my support and my love. There's no greater feeling in the world than actually loving yourself and looking forward to everything the future brings. It is definitely rewarding on all levels as well. I finally have goals, plans, a bright view of the future and so much more. Thanks for the supportive comments. It truly means a lot. Rory was extremely annoying but also extremely spoiled, so her entitlement was not 100% her fault. Everyone but Paris treated her like she was the Perfect Princess or Everything no matter what she did and barely ever held her accountable for her actions and choices, which really bugged me. I enjoyed seeing her fail and I think she really needed it in order to grow up at last.

Yeah I agree that she was praised too much, at times, like the car accident with Jess I think Lorelai should have been just as mad at Jess as she was at Rory. It was literally an accident Jess wasn't trying to get Rory hurt!

Maybe it is just me, but... although Alexis Bledel is a gorgeous girl/woman, the portrayal of Rory is often strangely asexual. As if she were a nun taking care of the crazy person that is her mother. As for her love interests, just a side note, what is with American teenagers (young adults) and the "full head of hair" thing??? I am European and even though I went to a high school in the U.S. in the 1990’s, I just cannot understand the "no actual haircut, just a bunch of hair" thing in the JFK Jr style, and the only characters who have ever seen hair clippers being used on them are minority gang members. You never see a young guy with receding hairline, crew cut etc. Nothing but preppy, "proper" boys.

I'm really lost on what you mean by teens with a "full head of hair." Not having a "full" head of hair usually means that you are balding, and I definitely don't think it's weird for teens to not be balding. Also, all the teen characters in the show absolutely have their hair cut and styled, not just growing out raggedly. So I honestly have no idea what you mean. They look totally typical of teen hair styles of that time, especially TV teen hair styles.
