To add to the invasive grasses discussion here, I want to mention that as a basket weaver, all of these grasses are a gold mine--I cut them back every year, dry them, and make coiled baskets with them (after rehydrating and mellowing) all year around here in Connecticut. I also keep garden sheers in my car so I can harvest anything I see on the edges of parking lots and other areas where they're clearly not cultivated by anyone!
Hi.. I have a lot of different types of ornamental grasses in my Japanese garden. I had no idea that miscanthus was invasive til a friend commented on a pix I posted last week and I looked it up! I have had 5 of them planted for the past 1 to 1 1/2 years now, and just planted a few more a few weeks ago!!! I also looked up pics online and saw how massive they can get if not divided!! Well, that just gave me more garden activities.. I really love the different grasses and they are defintitely very beautiful through winter, when most of the garden is asleep! Thanks for your very informative video!!
You're very welcome. Yes, get rid of the Miscanthus if you can. North America has so many spectacular grasses to replace them with. Thanks for watching!
Live in the S.W. Desert. We H-A-D some Pompus-Grass, One on each side of a Rock Riverbed for Year's. but the Cotton-Tail Rabbit's Decided to Eat them. They'd even Stand on their Lil' Hind Feet and Eat Away. Had to Finally Remove Them.😠
