First this interview was in 1989 so he was 38. But if it was in 1984 he was 33 cause he born in 1951. 30 going to 31 was the age he was when he filmed Return of the jedi

I loved it. Thought it was poetic. And if they gave him a grave, it would be a target for people to either vandalize or the Empire to exhume and try to clone him. Especially knowing the Clone Wars existed, they really needed to burn him to make sure no one messed around with his DNA.

A funeral pyre is just an old fashioned form of cremation so it makes sense that jedi custom would be old fashioned having been around for so long
