There's a RU-vidr who has a video where he removed the valve block. It is really easy. Note: The Compact has a PLASTIC valve block!

i wish Grimburg made .50 ammo. Steel balls are too heavy & everything else is on the lighter side under 4 g. We need 5.5 g .50 LL ammo.

Greets! Well, there are several reasons to carry a "gun shaped" launcher. The first comes from teh FBI's own statics. Of all people that have had to pull their weapon in self-defense (Through end of 2021), only 6% ever had to fire it. The weapon itself was the first line of deterrent. The second is delivery. These can pack a heck of a punch particularly when loaded with alternating rounds (rubber/steel and pepper balls.) .. They WILL stop a human and an animal in their tracks. I'm all for ANY first line of self-defense. They key is practice and staying aware of your surroundings. Thanks for watching!

@@AlternateArmsSD Well you can also get charged with "possession of an imitation firearm for an unlawful purpose" if it causes any alarm in public. Open or concealed carry could land you a weapons charge in some places.

@@travperk If I want to chuck heavy projectiles I'd throw heavy flat bands on a hammer grip slingshot frame I have, if I want to spice things up I'll use a liquid spray with stream delivery. These pepper ball guns are about as silly as the drive stun only stun guns.

Yes there is, but, if the HDR 68 responds anything like the TR 50 did, you cannot simply remove that block alone. You have to restrict the amount of CO2 going into that chamber or causes the weapon to misfire and lock up occasionally. i’m actually going to do a couple more tests on these in the near future as well. Greets Gary! You are correct, there are so many different brands out there can be tough to decide. The truth is, if you’ve got a concentration higher than 5% of PAVA, it’s overkill. Also, pure capsaicin with ghost peppers works quite a bit better and could be very finally powdered if done correctly. As far as the stock pepper balls, I do use the Berna occasionally, but I also like the pepper balls from pepperball quite a bit. (The ones they sell for the TCP) Typically, I alternate my rounds. Solid, pepper, solid, pepper etc. Thanks for watching!

I modified mine today. Equal to the HDP50. Get 4 real hard shots then 4 soft inaccurate shots. Very easy to mod. Just remove the chamber block.

It’s almost exactly the same size as the hornet. Not as small as I’d hoped but it is .50 cal :)

I’ll see if I can locate it. It’s actually a rather generic leather outside the waistband holster. It just seem to be the perfect size to fit pretty much everything I like to carry :-)

Yea and no. When you pull the trigger it releases another round. Your first shot would be two rounds. Still, modified these pack a punch.

Yeah I'm not sure what they were going for.. It makes it a bit unwieldy but the soft holsters seem to work fine. I think they actually sell a holster specifically for this one too. I would definitely alternate the nylon ( or rubber/steel) and pepperballs.

@@AmbuBadger I don't own any pepper ball guns, I much prefer a can with a good flip safety and stream spray as it fits in a watch pocket of jeans (the small one) with the top sticking out within easy reach and cleanly indexed. If I carry an OC device for defense outside of the home it needs to fit a state mandated size (3/4 ounce) and I very much prefer a not gun shaped thing as replica guns can get you into trouble with the law when carried in a way that could cause alarm.

Alas no, this weapon is 50 caliber in the Byrna is a 68 caliber.

@@rodneymullen313 I have some links down there. Lancer tactical makes a fantastic pepperball and you can find tons of different 50 caliber rounds to fire. These things are pretty darn versatile :-)

Greets! Yeah, California is on a short list of ridiculously restrictive states. In that case, I would definitely use the rubber/steel infused balls or even aluminum. this is a great little weapon whether you mod it or not. The modification just creates more velocity. Thanks for watching!

Light hard nylon balls. Minimal power needs lighter rounds.

@@jft7174 also, weight equates to velocity. The lighter the round, the more velocity you’re going to get out of the charge you have presented. That’s what makes the modification such a fantastic idea :-)

Byrna is the only company that sells Pepperball rounds to California residents. You need to take the Chemical Agent Certification exam through Byrna,but it's not a hard test, just very detailed. Once you complete it, you'll be allowed to buy the Pepperball rounds legally here. I live in SoCal and did my test two months ago. Be aware though that local laws may be different from the state laws when it comes to these kinds of launchers and with the Pepperball rounds. I spent some time with a lieutenant here in my local police station talking to him about what laws I need to be aware of if I carry mine outside the home and possibly using it if necessary vs using it in the home and from what I was told, because California has "Air Gun" laws in place, the local police might consider it an "Air Gun" because it used CO2 cartridges. Also he didn't recommend using Pepperballs in public as the powder can blow onto other people and you could be charged with Discharge of a Chemical Agent which is a felony. Using Pepperballs in your home is discouraged as well simply because the stuff explodes on impact and could potentially hit you as well at worse and at best will cover everything within a 6-8 foot radius and it's difficult to clean off of most surfaces and almost impossible to clean out of carpets and upholstery meaning it'll be there in your carpet and couches for months. I have a Byrna SD as well as plans to get the new 40 Joule Umarex T4E HDX Shotgun this spring for my home defense.

It’s the way this one came. They can be modified to 20+J easily. Some countries limit the FPS ratings on these launchers. Also, you can’t get black in many countries but I have a color change video posted.

Greetings, well, it’s kind of an interesting mix. I found that any medium size pancake style holster works pretty darn well. Also, any of the vinyl holsters will work as well. That funky loading mechanism and trigger guard do sort of limit your options :-)

Since it's supposed to be a non-lethal self-defense weapon, the orange color might prevent cops from mistaking it for a lethal weapon and mistaking you for the bad guy.

I bought my Byrna and HDP in bright colors precisely so it _isn't_ mistaken for a real gun. CCW isn't windespread here in Hawaii, and cops just assume anyone with a gun and _without_ a badge "must be a bad guy!"
