interesting to see the side by side comparisons. I'm having trouble with the tiny pain flecks you mentioned with the sharpie. How do you deal with that issue? going more slowly, shorter strokes? i write onto painted surfaces with my pens and the flecks can be very noticable in the finished project. As i sell my work, it bugs the heck out of me if things are messy. any help would be appreciated

Great review Kelly. I was only familiar with the jelly roll ( my go to white pen) I think I like the sharpie best....didn't realize it came in a water base ! Thanks for sharing !

Have you painted on acrylic using paint pens? I’m making wedding signs for my daughter’s wedding. I have read that chalk ink pens work great on acrylic but needs to be durable for transport, not scratching off.

I don't use a lot of paint pens but I think Molotow is nice and Posca too.

Hi Lisa! Thanks! Probably fine on glass, but maybe not wood. Oil based paint markers are good to try for those too.

Hello. I happened to get an oil based white sharpie paint pen to use to highlight Tombow darker colored letters but the white seems to just be absorbed by the color. Is this because it's oil based? Am I better off getting a white gel pen for highlights and flourishes?

Hi, that is typical for the white marker to pick up the colour below. I haven't found a solution, but experiment with opaque white markers and sometimes add more than one layer of white. Also, if you use a paintbrush or waterbrush, you can try the Dr. Ph Martins Bleedproof White.

Depends on the paint pen but if it is oil based then yes it should.

Yes, Posca is another excellent paint paint, similar to the Sharpie. I recommend it!

The Montana markers are boss when you get into the wide sizes. Not so great with the small points.

Margo, usually oil based paint pens like Sharpies will stay permanently, but I recommend you go to an art supply store and ask. There are other brands too, like Sakura Pen-Touch paint pens. I don't write on mirrors. Also, type into Google: What is the best pen to write on mirrors? and search that question. :)

If they are water based pens then yes you can.

Hi Albert, lots of art supply stores carry them. There is a difference between WATER based white Sharpies and OIL based. I am using the water based here.

What exactly is the difference between the water and oil based paint pens?

Victoria, I don't use the oil-based pens because I write mostly on paper and I believe that the oil based paint pens are mostly for other surfaces, like metal, glass etc, often non porous for crafts etc.
