The 5-3 goal was especially brutal because not only did Brassard gloat directly in the face of that leafs fan, but seconds before he scored that Marner was given the tying goal on a silver platter and just blew it

I love my leafs all ways have all ways will they are a great team. But last night they played like crap to many give aways. The Sen deserved to win that game.
As a Sens fan, thank you for giving us the credit we deserve. 100% on paper the leafs are better, but when you get into the game, if you can't beat the strategy, you lose. The Sens may not be as high scoring on paper, or in the game, but when they can push the Choke down, they will win. Also, it was stupid funny to watch you put emphasis so many things.

Hey Steve, first season viewer of LFR, but I went back and watched some LFR's from older seasons when the leafs were horrible, but seeing how happy you are to make these videos now is great! Even when we lose you still put a smile on and have good things to say about both sides. Been a leafs fan my entire life so ive felt all the pain you have since pre lockout, what a time to be a leafs fan though. Big things are going to happen, very soon too. I cant wait to watch the LFR video when we finally win the cup. Go Leafs go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!
I have to admit I had a good laugh, thinking about the rant about the defense, and the Leafs seemingly answering it by signing Steve's beloved Roman Polack. Then I remembered I was a Leaf fan, and the laughter just sort of trailed off and ended with a kind of clearing of the throat noise.
I love Steve is literally predicting all the comments of Leafs fans. Most of them are about the seats or the fights and not actually about the game which the Senators WON! Other than the people who call the Sens boring and if you find Sens games boring, don't watch when your team plays the Senators.
Ottawa played a wonderful game, no one can take that away from them.. The leaf's had a really rough night, as we all could tell.. Even though credit is due to Freddie, for standing on his head. Roman Polak was just signed to a 1 year deal with the leaf's, so hopefully that will help our defensive line a bit more. If the Leafs win 3 games and lose run for playing run & gun, that's going to be a lot better than the Sens final record. put your money where your mouth is. Ron Hainsey's been a workhorse. did they have a bad night defensively? yes. is the defense always this bad? no because they're at a 3-1 win/loss ratio.

On the money, MR. Dangle. But you only watched the highlights, so you did have an incomplete picture. It was not (IMHO) just in front of the net that was bad. Leafs had their pockets picked incessantly, atrociously. My favourite player Marner is now -8, 4th worst in the entire league. He looks ill. Wish I could help him with condolences like "Oh, but Sidney is -6". I won't. Until this raw sore is solved, we will be vulnerable. Have bled blue for 62 years, LOVE this team. I'm familiar with disappointment, and will get through this.
Our blue line needs to tighten up like crazy. Steve said it somewhere that we cant play OIlers 80s Grant Fuhr hockey. Sure we can score but it seams like any team can put in 6 this year. Just gotta clear the trash in front.
Steve you didnt even really feel how much of a dagger to the heart the 5-3 goal was because Mitch Marner was literally given the puck 10 feet from the net but Anderson saved it then it went the other way and scored... much worse than you could imagine
Hasn't Babs only done a bag skate once since he's been here? After that bad LA game. Seems like he's the kind of coach that has hard but short practices so they conserve their energy for the game. Based on past history I'd be very surprised if he skates them through the ice.
Last year the defense started rough and got bettter. This year it's a similar story. Offended is much better but the defense still has to work things out. I'm patient but I do like the addition of polak because as much as I want carrick to succeed I don't really think his we will get what we are hoping for from him

They got to keep playing. The leafs d prospects are coming but we cannot rush their development. These d man are doing the best they can do. It’s going to take a couple years.
As hockey fans, we gotta take a hard look in the mirror if we find ourselves getting in an altercation with someone over sports fandom. Honestly, if your day is ruined by a non-playoff hockey game, that’s also probably not a great sign. More to life than WATCHING hockey, folks. Maniac With Mop Hopefully he does that, Mark Fraser was good at that for the leafs, thats what they need on the back end a physical d-man who can clear the crease and dosn't let the oposition walk all over them. They need to help Freddy out with that.

Polak coming back. I dare steve to hate on him after he demonstrates why he was with this team last year. A bigger guy who can win the battles in front to clear the net.
The silver lining is that the Leafs come back stronger from defeats, and sens fans will be deluded into thinking they're elite. Best of both worlds. The game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested.
I genuinely think Toronto needs to make a bigger trade for a defensemen. I think trading Marner for someone like Ellis or Elkolm from Nashville (plus a pick) or someone along those lines. Not an absolute superstar, but someone who is established and tight defensively
Surprised you think the Sens will make the playoffs after the 2013 Leafs, 2014 Avs, and 2015 Flames. Regression always comes for you in the end. (But yes they were obviously the better team last night). They literally allowed more goals than they scored last year. That's not even digging into the advanced stuff.
As a Leafs fan, the Senators don't scare me whatsoever. And Steve, what's this nonsense about "one day, hopefully you can beat 'em"? You're a smart man. You know that a regular season loss to the Sens means more or less nothing. Remember when Ottawa consistently made the playoffs averaging over 100 points per season during the late 90s/early 2000s? Remember when they won the Eastern conference and the Leafs squeaked in as the 8th seed and handed them their ass? Remember the time Ottawa finally beat Toronto in a playoff series? I dont, and if you did, I would suggest a cat scan. The battle of Ontario hasn't really been a battle at all. It has been so lopsided in the Leafs favor that at times I almost felt bad for the Senators. Sure, the Sens are good enough to catch the Leafs on a bad night. And hell, they may win the season series against us, but the Leafs are a far better team now than they were in the early 2000s, and the Sens are a far worse team than they were back then as well. Ottawa may have made it to the conference final last season, but they haven't really been much better than the Leafs on average over the past 12 or so years either. We ARE the big boys, just not everyone realizes it yet. Give it till Christmas.

The Trap = The death of Hockey I get it though, a coach has to set up his team to win. Trap defense is the only way to take average players and have them compete with the elite. I'm just saying that if I wanted to watch scoreless games I'd bore myself with soccer. Fans (the ones paying for everything - mostly Leaf fans via revenue sharing) love goals. Lots of goals. There is a reason why the NHL keeps tweaking the rules, over and over, year after year, and that reason is to increase goal scoring. (I fully admit that I'm a Leafs fan and maybe a little grumpy from last night's loss. Go Leafs Go!) (P.S. It was nice to see some attention paid to Gord Downie by HNIC) Great Video as always Steve!
To all the Toronto fans saying Ottawa only won because of the trap system. If it is so good why do you not use it? Ottawa dominated the first two periods, and Toronto only one therefore they lost.
Robert Moore Its a good thing more teams don't play that way. Can't have every team having to cover up seats and not sellingout playoff games. Even Ottawa fans don't want to pay to watch the trap.
If every team played the trap can you imagine the extents Bettman would use to make more goals, anyways the trap is straight up boring, momentum killer, it really kills it for the new people trying to get into hockey, basically trap=boring=less fans, that's why teams that don't use trap will generally have more fans then teams that do trap. Of course there are a lot of factors especially in Ottawas case but that's my piece
People say ottawa is boring, no. They make it boring for your team. Scoring 6 goals isn’t boring. They cancel out your team and it makes it boring to watch as you are not cheering for the sens. That’s what it is;)
Not a big trash talker in the sports I watch (unless it is to mock the Chargers not being able to sell out a soccer stadium in the LA area) While the Sens have had the upper hand in the Season series, the Leafs are still able to beat us in the Playoffs (even if there hasn't been a playoff matchup since the 2003-04 season.)
Yep, fair assessment. If I could put the best face on it, good time of year to have this kind of loss. But enough of that. The other team plays in Canata, and has a Centurion as a logo. And they call themselves the Ottawa Senators. That is beyond fucked up.

I like your videos, Steve... but nope, in this case I can't agree with you. I will not respect the Ottawa Senators. They are a joke of a franchise and relied almost entirely on luck to get as far as they did in last year's playoffs, and their roster is so bad (Karlsson and one or two other exceptions aside) they are forced to play a style of anti-hockey that is absolutely bullshit to watch and will kill the game of hockey as we know it if more teams adopted it. Which makes losing to that joke of a team even more embarrassing. I agree with you for calling out the Leafs many failures in that game but I will give no credit to the Sens for winning it. They were, are and always will be a completely irrelevant franchise and their 14 fans can bitch about that if they want but they know deep down it's true. This disagreement aside I really do enjoy your work Steve, thanks for doing it and please keep it up!
I gotta disagree saying Ottawa is the big dogs. It's Tampa. They are steam rolling everyone. Ottawa is good but u can't tell me you'd take Ottawa in a series vs Tampa. No way.
