Very cool to hear your thoughts about the Rangers. Lifelong Rangers fan here, who loves your content. 1 year ago I moved to Oslo, Norway and a friend surprised me with a Cameo video from you, as a going away gift, where you gave me some encouragement about how the Rangers’ future looks. Very cool. Good to have hockey season back, looking forward to following your journey with the Leafs all over again.
@@BunnEFartz I should have known! It makes sense that a good number of Steve’s viewers (especially with LFR) would be Leafs fans. I love watching you guys play! And I was rooting for you in the playoffs last season in that brutal series. I’m sure Steve’s comments pretty much summed up how the whole of Leaf’s nation felt the way that one ended. Oof..
@@Lady_Vengeance True story, I was born ten minutes after the Leafs won their last Stanley Cup. My patience with this team ran out some time in the 80's. But when it comes down to it, the playoffs are a war and the Leafs just haven't had the fortitude to fight that war for a long time now. It takes more than raw talent to win a Cup. And BTW, I played hockey in Sweden for a couple of years. Go visit there if you get the chance.
Leafs should try shooting for more rebounds if they want to not get goalie’d. They constantly get their shots blocked or directed right into the chest.
George Carlin was quite literally the voice of my childhood when I would watch Thomas the tank engine, and I now appreciate his work as a legendary comedian.
In my childhood (I am clearly older than you) George Carlin albums were like forbidden fruit. My friends and I would be punished severely when we were caught listening to his albums. Worth it though.
Even though it’s after a loss, this video has that Steve Dangle smile and attitude of contentness that I haven’t seen in a while. I choose to believe that means the world is getting back to normal. I’m looking forward to Steve in front of a screen for Dang Its and Hat Picks again, ProDrewcer shenanigans, and everything else that’s part of the process. It’s been a long year and a half, but Steve, sdpn, and hockey in general have been a wonderful way to be grounded through it.
As a Rangers fan, it was just nice to see the teams play with crowds and in Canada again! That OT was ridiculous! Both goalies battled so valiantly. Can't wait til round 2 of these goalies
Igor shesterkin is awesome, he completely bailed out the rangers. Kinda like Henrik Lundqvist did for years. Not saying shesterkin is as good as Lundqvist. It's just been the same story for the rangers for a long time
yh, I was getting nostalgic watching this game. Team doing nothing and the Goalie keeping us in until we score a random gamewinner. So many games like that with Henrik.
Im sorry Steve this is the first time I disagree with you. The leafs hit like 3 posts that game, you cant blame that on the quality of shots. Sure some shots were weak but the leafs had some pretty good in close chances which the tendy had to be sharp
@@jayp.6166 When it I read "Special K" it reminded me that it was an elementary school slang term 40 years ago here in Rhode Island for acting "retarded."
You know someone who plays defense for Ryerson watched this and got a little excited thinking for a split second they had a shot of suiting up for the Leafs.
Just wanted to say Leafs Nation is always welcome to join us in Detroit as far as I’m concerned. You made my last trip to JLA a blast. That’s not a typo. It was the last game I saw before the LCA opened. It was more fun than some of the wins I been to. We were trying to spoil your playoff run. Then Austin Mathews happened. The trash talk is always in good fun. Trying to yell “Let’s Go Red Wings” louder than the “Go Leafs, Go!” chant, back to back, until we collectively decide to save our strained voices for our the rest of the game, really puts you in the game as an active participant. Love it. Keep bringing it. I wish you nothing but the best. Besides, I need a team to cheer for in the playoffs. I can’t think of a better one than Toronto nor a team whose fan base deserves to see the cup again.
When you talked about players who have the "ooooh" sound in their names/nicknames, it reminded me of a pitcher the Red Sox had in the 1980s named Bob Stanley. He was with them his entire 13-year career, but the last few years as a relief pitcher were not good. The Red Sox persisted in using him, and sometimes his entrance was greeted with boos by the home fans. As a result, he would reportedly introduce himself to new team members as "Lou Stanley."
Shesterkin's goals saved above expected was 2.43 during that game. While not all the leafs shots were amazing and they shot from everywhere increasing the shot count the leafs did have some great shots from high danger areas that shesterkin saved
Mathews first shot he made a pretty good glove save and definitely the save on Reilly was a great save and I mean he was just ok in overtime I guess lol
Can't believe the NYR went into MTL and TOR and gritted our way to four points. Missing two top six forwards showed as we couldn't do anything and you guys were on top of us the entire game. In fact, Ryan Reaves was one of our best forwards which says it all. Awesome goalie matchup and Igor is going to have to do that more often than not for the rangers to be good this year. It is almost same formula the rangers have always had with King Henrik (who btw looks amazing as a TV personality during intermissions. Would love to see him join the TNT crew for a few games at some point in the future). This time though it's Czar Igor. Long live the czar
I see most comments tend to agree with this but I will still mention it as well: the "Shestyorkin didn't have to make the tough saves" take was pretty terrible.
They played their best game so far but couldn't finish it. Awesome overtime. We got to play like we did in the 3rd and overtime the entire game. Balls out.
I might be one of the last hold outs on not liking 3 on 3 overtime. It's the combo of no-change-icing, 3 on 3, and the 2nd period-like further benches making line changes volatile. It ends up feeling like a badly designed arcade game where whoever makes the first move has the advantage. I think I'd like it more of they didn't switch sides between the 3rd and OT.
lol bruh there were like at least 5 times we had someone coming down through the slot with an open look and then even got rebounds on those and igor stonewalled us, give him some credit instead of acting like he wasnt facing high danger chances lol
Cmon man, you can't tell me that the double save on marner or the recovery in between the dots in OT wasn't impressive. Also that's... kind of just Igor's game. Kind of like a smaller Robin lehner. He's never out of position, so every save he makes looks mundane. Also the leafs rang at least 4 posts this game, they had some decent chances. No Czar Igor slander in my home!
@@SteveDangle He had 2 back to back, Matthews from the slot, and then Reilly on the rebound in regulation. The stop on Simmons was another. Nylander had a couple good chances in regulation (not counting the post). There was a goal mouth scramble where the Leafs got 3 shots in the second. And that's off the top of my head without going back and watching highlights. Just because Igor is in position to make the save, doesn't mean it wasn't a good chance. People seem to think that it was only a good chance if the goalie had to do the splits or reach back and grab it with the glove. That happens when the goalie is out of position, it isn't necessarily an indication of good chance creation by the offense, just bad positioning or a bad read by the goalie. All the publicity available analytics sites have Igor saving ~2.5 over expected that game. He really did steal it, even in regulation. He was just in position the whole time to make it look easy prior to OT.
@@SteveDangle ok I can see that argument. I still think it's just him being a good positional goalie but tbh I didn't expect you to respond so I don't know what to do with myself lol
Hey Steve just started following this. I'm a Sens fan, but please dont hate me. I'm a Sens fan second, a hockey fan first. And as such, i wish to say I'm sorry to Leafs Nation that we didn't let Marner or Tavares get going last game against us. I honestly think the league is better off when those guys are flying and doing well and feeling it, and I honestly hope they break through soon cause this has to be crushing their confidence so far.
I'm gonna be 100% honest with ya Steve. When I sent in that Igor ShestJERKin comment. I didn't realize how bad it sounded 🤣 my excuse is that I was tired lol
Marner has GOT to shoot more. So many times he’s perfectly lined up for a shot and he passes it instead. I know Matthews is their best goal scorer but Marner’s gotta step up when the Leafs need him most.
@@whitepaws60 You're the only person that gets it. Playmakers hold the puck to make a play. Marner is a 70 assist guy. To complain about how he handles the puck is asinine.
several big saves in regulation. Ribbed Simmonds and Nylander at the end of the first, made back to back big saves at around the 11 min mark, robbed Reilly at the end of the 2nd on a rebound after a good save on Matthews
Leafs are going to struggle this year. I called it months ago, the division is very good (as usual). Same old story, outshoot a team drastically, make their goalie look like a God like they did Rittich on the Flames last year. There is no rhyme or reason here, this story plays out consistently, they are stuck in a frigging time loop movie. This was a carbon copy of so many Leaf games in recent years.
