and a lot of misinformation too. Unfortunately when it comes to LG, HDTV test is not reliable at all. Full of bias that it starts to become ridiculous and not credible at all....and amen it is what it is...
@HDTVTest - can you please confirm if this fix will also address the 4:2:2 subsampling issue which has been reported when trying to output 4K/120hz/10bit/4:4:4 ?
(x) doubt ;) I also had a card which should have arrived yesterday. Guess when an email came with the info "oopsie, we dont have enough stock".. right, yesterday. So until you dont have it in your hands, dont hype yourself up
Nvidia even advertised the 3090 on an LG 8K OLED. One would assume that they‘d only do that if everything is already working fine 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for the update, Vincent!
Got my LG CX 48 inch a week ago. Glad I got it from best buy with a 45 day return window and no restocking fees. I am nervous about them using the word "should" fix the problem. As well as not mentioning the sub sampling issues directly especially considering 4k, hdr, 10bit, 4:4:4, at 120Hz takes 40.1gbps bandwidth. And if they strictly only have 40 gbps HDMI 2.1 on their ports, it could be part of the issue.
the oleds havent been updated since june , been gaming on the c9 all year @4k 60 w hdr /vrr no problems , LG would be losing alot of customers if they lied about hdmi 2.1 compatibility , the ampere cards will support hdmi 2.1 @ 40 gbps 10 bit , nvidia confirmed that, this new firmware update should fix everything and nvidia needs to update there drivers as well LG promised updates once a hdmi 2.1 source was released but LG dropped the ball on the 3080 release day
Unbelievable how gaming is important for TV manufacturers now, even just couple years ago they didn’t care about high input lag but now even VRR and high refresh rate are marketing points. What a great time to play on TVs nowadays 😊
Mac M. It’s interesting that those 2 divisions within Samsung are fighting each other, the folks who used to make LCD panels but are now switching to QDTV (QD OLED) and the folks who make the full TVs who have been bashing OLED for years.
right! I have disable my VRR on xbox... its horrible. Puting 49 instead of 50 is not really a workaround because the image is then screwy and you are missing shadow details if you do it.
Mac M. The Chinese will eventually take over the entire market. It’s just a matter of time. The Korean companies will end up selling mostly premium stuff like the Japanese have been doing for over a decade.
Right on, I’m having this issue. Tons of flickering no matter what setting I change on the CX48 or the 3080. Glad they’re working on it. Thanks for the info!!
This ALSO applies to the LG B9 / BX as well, the only difference is the processor (A7/A9) same TV otherwise /doesn't effect rather the TV gets G-SYNC or anything else for that matter.
I have RTX 3080 and LG B9 65". G-sync does not work at any 120Hz.The screen goes black ,lost singal. Turn G-Sync off and you can use all the way up to 7xxx x 3xxx. Some games also do not work with the RTX 3080 and LG B9
3080 owner here. Lucky to know people at Nvidia. This video explains exactly my situation. I purchased a LG CX 55 just for this card. After I turned off gsync and the flashing issue disappeared. Even with gsync off I still get 97FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark: Highest settings @4k over HDMI 2.1 at 120hz. If it helps anyone reading this trying to figure out how to unlock 120hz, you have to scroll down to the "PC" resolutions section in the pull down in the Nvidia Control Panel Resolutions and and select it to "3840x2160". Only then will 120hz be unlocked. selecting "3840x2160 (native)" in the "Ultra HD, HD, SD" section will only show 60hz. Hope this helps. And yes, new card with new TV using a new standard has some gotchas. good luck
Can you please double and triple check they know about the RGB (4:4:4) chroma subsampling down to 4:2:2 at 100/120Hz on all resolutions except 2560x1440p on the CX+ TV’s. It does NOT seem to affect the C9. I just don’t want to find out the firmware fix is only for Gsync and not the Chroma subsampling down to 4:2:2. Gsync is broken on both C9 and CX.
This is awesome news just as I'm gearing up to setup my CX. I've had it for a while, but because of renovations, I've just not been able to fully unbox it and actually use it.
Thanks for the update. Trying to get a 3080 to pair with my C9. If you have the hardware, a input latency test would be a nice addition with VRR and 4k/120.
After all this time is still not available in Australia, for the LGCXPTA model... any information when is going to be available for us? This is frustrating.
Please report the subsampling issue on the CX where 4K & 1080p 120 Hz RGB is downsampled to 4:2:2. Only 1440p 120 Hz RGB renders at 4:4:4. The C9 doesn't have this issue.
New nVidia driver out today still does not fix the issue. As soon as I enable the instant game response on the TV I lose all input from the PC. I have to disable it for the picture to come back.
That's good, thanks! There is however an issue with CX specifically and not related to Nvidia at all - subsampling from 444 to 420 in both 4k/120 and 1080/120. C9 is not affected by this issue, meaning it may be hardware related to cx specifically.
Many G-Sync monitors don't work with the new RTX 30 Series cards - the problem seems to be with NVIDIA's drivers if anything. The real issue that Vincent needs to address but hasn't been addressed is that the CX is downsampling 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 at 120Hz. That's a huge issue!
Will they fix the raised black when activating VRR? I have it disabled when playing on Xbox one x because its actually very visible and the black are no more oled back which defeat the purpose of having an OLED.
Vincent your videos are fantastic and thank you for all the information you give us. Unfortunately for me the new update 3.11.25 software hasn’t fix the g-sync stutter problem. Running msi 3080 @ 4k hdr 120hz and 444 10bit colour format.iv had too cap the frame rate to 90fps in nvidia control panel to enjoy smoother gaming experience on forza 4 and grid. We all brought the lg cx to play between 40-120fps with g-sync.Not too cap frame rate at 90 so there no stutter.Hopefully lg fixes this issue soon?
One thing I have noticed, and found others on forums who also have noticed, is the slight flickering of certain dark scenes in games when gsync is enabled on the 2000 series cards. I wonder if this is something that is going to be fixed in the future.
Are you going to be doing a review of the LG BX at all? I've got one pre-ordered but sitting on the fence about cancelling and getting the CX instead as it has the 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs instead of just 2, one of which will be taken up by eArc. Only intending to get a ps5 but if I decided to get a XBSX or RTX 3000 series gfx card I'll be left short. The only other down side I've read is the panel brightness is lower than the CX but I'm not sure if that should be a deal breaker.
Hopefully LG and/or Apple will fix the 2-year-old issue with the Apple TV box on LG OLED: Dolby Vision is messed up with elevated blacks. We are forced to switch down to HDR10. Come on Apple! Come on LG! Fix it!
I have a RTX3080 graphic card and its NOT possible to make a 1440@120hz setup with a LG C9. With my old GTX1080 i have no problems with 120hz. My TV has the newest Update 5.00.03. Are there any solutions now?
Im exactly one year late to this, and sadly here in Argentina, this TV is the latest model (BX) and im having exactly this problem (chroma subsampling at 120Hz 4k) and to add to the trouble, eARC is laggy as hell, Please Vincent can you help me or tell me what to do, its inexplicable how a tv manufacture will put the name ``PASSTHROUGH``, when they are clearly processing audio (this can be verified by sending DTS, and having the TV in Bitstreaming in and passthrough out) im literally dissaponted, and i can not get send it backl, because i already sold my B8 do you think a firmware is on its way, or im dead until C1 is out... ? im currently at FW 04.30.10
I went from a 2080ti to 3090 this week, and my lg c9 2019 just goes black on anything above 1080p 60hz. It worked with 4k 60hz before with 2.1 cable. Any News about when this new firmware comes out? The latest firmware avilable is from august 2020..
Hi, Can you explain why we see a lot of noise\grain on 4k movies and 4k tvs.. i observed it on almost every movie i watched on netflix and other 4k content. not sure if its tv problem or the content itself has grain in it.
Based on feedback there are two separate issues: 1) g-sync not working and 2) down sampling of RGB to 4:2:2 on the CX. Are you saying BOTH of these issues are being fixed? Your video is not 100% clear.
I have g synch on LG CX. The LG TV counter (activated by spamming green button) momentarily drops to just 40hz now and again yet my in game counter is capped at 116 fps. My graphics card is capable of maintaining over 200fps. Why do I momentarily get micro drops to 40hz? It happens almost every second :-(.
Any chance you know if the 2020 nanocell 120hz tv's will also benefit from this update? - its not an oled - but it seems that Im having the exact same problems with black screen and no G-sync. on top of that, I get flickering around parts of the picture - till I switch to 60hz and back to 120 - then it works again.
They should rather fix the crushed blacks on OLED! I bought the CX in 65" full of excitement I have found out how blacks are crushed. Why no any reviewer talks about that? If I would knew that before buy I would never consider purchase.
I hear that one cannot separate audio via HDMI from Nvidia cards, I hear also that gsynch cannot be separated audio wise, and also "nvidia forcing" audio. All issues with LG CX or in general nvidia?
I can confirm the RTX 3080 have issue with my CX , g sync flicker and no 444 color ... also for some reason I have to restart computer every time before my CX can show image through hdmi2.1 as well (no signal after the bios )
Gsync never really worked on my C9 55 to being with lol. Doesn't bother me that much since I never saw the use of it running 1440p 120Hz. But it's sad that LG can never be ready for new releases. There's always a community post after the fact that there's an issue and a fix being worked on.
Has anyone with a 3080 and a c9 found a display setting to avoid getting black screens/flashing with 4k/60/HDR/g-sync that works in all games? The issues with my 3080 are driving me insane. Using 8 bit color seems to fix the black screen issues I have in non-hdr games (e.g. control) but using HDR still causes issues in lots of games (e.g. horizon zero dawn; doom eternal. What are the working settings you use in games?
How is that even possible - two megacorporations luring us into this scenario (esp. with posititioning the LG CX 48" as a (PC) gamer TV) and when the relevant GPU (technically) arrives G-SYNC is not working correctly . The G-Sync "program" is running for ages now (the first firmware patch was released in 11/2019). The CX TVs are on sale since several months now - i assume the starting conditions were good. How long both parties had time to sort out problems like this in advance? In other words, since when engineering samples of the 3000 cards are available to LG (i guess for for several months). And now LG need weeks (or months, you knows) to get their damned TVs fixed AFTER some CONSUMERS were able to get their hands on a HDMI 2.1 card and identify the issue. - what were LG and nvidia doing in all this time? Not adding a DisplayPort to a "gamer" device is already a pretty dumb oversight- but this is just F*CKING ridiculous. This will only be somewhat mitigated by the fucked-up release of the RTX 3080 cards (and very likely the rest of the 3000 series). LG & nvidia have a combined revenue of > 65 billion USD, but don't get basic things right. I guess that's the charm of B2C in which companies are alllowed to pull off all kinds of shit as they please.
Hey Vincent I love your vids, I am planing on getting a ps5, but my current screen is the Sony kdl-46W905 which you know is outdated so my question is which tv or monitor would you recommend for the ps5? Best regards Mikael Jensen from Denmark
Stop the FOMO just came out with a video discussing that channel’s recommended TVs specifically for PS5 at a range of prices. I think it’s worth a look.
With LG CX that's. No idea where the bottleneck is. Most likely adapter I quess. Hope someone can test aswell on other configurations. Like a RTX 3080/90.
Do you have information about LG B9S that i bought this year. Is it indentical to B9? Is it 48gbs. Is it cabable of 4k 120hz hdr 4.4.4. The box of the tv only says b9.
Hi it’s nearly a month after that vid and I have still problems with 3080 , no chance with 120Hz just 60Hz with black screen. I checked latest firmware on my CX itS the latest. Anyway if you have any thoughts please share. Stay amazing
Can you test if there is any when latency on the optical output on the back of the TVs, since Xbox is being cheap and removing it from their consoles. That’s how I get sound to my DAC
Is there any news on the B9 full 4k@120hz with HDR? I see quite a bit of information on the C9 with it's Alpha 9 chipset but still mixed writings on the Alpha 7.
@@TheInkSpoots It works well here as well. Still seems like the proportion/ration is a bit off. The output picture is larger than the screen for some reason. Try to play with the underscan/overscan but still not possible. :-(
This is good news, so you guys are running the LG B9 and can get 4k@120hz with HDR? I wasn't too worried as my B9 was too good a price to even think about the C9 and I will be running a series X on it so most games won't be 4k@120 but it's nice to know it works
Can confirm. I got a 3080 today and I have the CX. It worked at first then the screen kept flickering and finally went black. I rebooted and the menu for g-sync was gone and the resolution under the PC option only goes up to 1360x768.
2 months later now, i got my 3080, replaced the 2080S that worked without issues and now, no signal on HDMI (65B9) unless i disable that Ultra hdmi picture setting for it, but then i get output like yourself, LG no longer recognized as Gsync compatible. The support there @LG is completely retarded.
