We review the LG CX (pronounced as C10), a 2020 4K OLED TV from the South Korean brand which succeeds last year's C9. Topics covered in this video are near-black handling, colour accuracy, motion including 120Hz BFI, video processing, HDR including Dolby Vision IQ, as well as gaming including VRR.

any chance in letting us purchase your baseline calibrations for specific TVs? I know it wouldn't be perfect, but it would be better, and I would like to support you

I think rtings have calibration for most tv's which try to follow the D65 whitepoint as close as possible. But I don't think Vincent would sell his calibration settings as calibration values vary quite a lot between panels - You could end up with worse (more inaccurate) settings without even knowing it. But just my take on this

Can't wait for comparison/settings vid Vincent, will you do a follow up with one of the next gen consoles once released? Whilst the Freeview stuff isn't essential I'm sure a lot of people will expect it to be there. Hopefully by the time I get one in the sales they might have implemented it otherwise 2021 models it is.

Pha9TaZy You gotta ask Samsung and Sonos the same question. Samsung removed it from their 2020 qleds aswell, Sonos removed it from their 2020 soundbar ARC. There must be a good reason for it.

Next gen consoles won't support 12 bit color. HDR and current content is mastered at 10 bit, and both the C9 and CX are 10 bit panels, so even if it had the full 48 gbps bandwidth, it's impossible to push 12 bit color on a 10 bit panel. It makes absolutely no difference.

I bought the C9. People say that OLEDs are dim but some games burn my eyes with how bright they are. Far Cry 5 for example, gaming a light room and my eyes tear up playing it. Can't imagine how it is on an qled

oleds have very good brightness level in dark scenes. i mean, the highlights pop like crazy. but full field white they get pretty dim. honestly, i don't hate that some times. i mean, like in movies when it's a super dark scene and the next one cuts to white. i FUCKING HATE THAT. and oled not being as bright makes it less painful on the eyes hehehe

I'm glad you mentioned HDR10+ saying it's not a big deal since it's benefits are small on OLED TV's, I can't tell you the amount of idiots who were flaming me a couple of weeks ago on your channel claiming that dolby vision and hdr10+ looks the same because they both use dynamic metadata. These people don't understand you still see benefits of a 12bit color signal on a 10bit panel.

Uh, lol. There is not gonna be any significant benefit to feeding a 12-bits signal to a 10-bit panel. 10-bit gradations are already more than smooth enough.

@@LouSassol69er yeah it showed around 6.8 ms or so on the cx, which is slightly worse than the c9's 6.6 ms. So yes you're right they did make a mistake. The real input lag on the cx is around 4.9 ms according to an lg employee.

You won't regret buying the C9 .. I was blown away by the picture quality and sound from this tv! I was looking at the 55' but I decided to go for the 65' model instead, which actually turns out to be just the right size for me :)

@@mogensen84 I really want to go for the 65 model but it sells for 2300 euro, 55 goes for 1500 with the 5 year store guarantee (it's a hundred extra but I'll get it for the peace of mind). Thing is I thought I'll go for it around Christmas but the last week the prices went up and some retailers actually don't have it in stock anymore so I may have to go for it soon.

@@tsibosp OK, three years ago I was at the same point, spend extra for the 65' or be happy with the 55'. A guy posted save up for the 65', you will never regret it. I took his advice, paid the extra, and am thrilled. At some point you'll have the price difference, but if you buy the 55' you'll always have the 55' or worse yet start wanting the 65'.

6:50am here in NYC. I was about to go to sleep. Then I saw the notification. *Ah shit, here we go again...* EDIT: Ok I'm back. I have to say that I'm surprised Vincent didn't mention that having "only" 40Gbps bandwidth instead of 48Gbps doesn't matter because the panel is only 10-bit instead of 12-bit.

In the PC and in a certain way in the smartphones "worlds" almost always it requires two generations to see a big overral improvement. So based on the specs, the 2020 competition, the price, the Vincent review, the 2019 shoutout organised by Vincent: C9 all way down, without any kind of doubt.

Guy's if you're worried about burn in and live in the UK, John Lewis offer 5 years Protect Plus for your television (accidental damage cover) for £140 which covers for any accidental burn in/damage. Honestly if you're using the preventive measures LG have built into the TV and are sensible with it's usage burn in should be a non-issue, within reasonable usage lifespan e.g. 4-6 years. But for peace of mind adding an extra £140 on top is worth it, considering you're already buying an expensive luxury commodity.

Honestly ditching DTS HD pass through is a deal breaker as long as transcoding 4K is a minor nightmare on most media server software. Also HDR+ is sort of in the same boat. Yes it's useless for streaming formats, but for UHD discs it may become the default standard as it lacks the expenses tied into the Dolby format.

Great videos as always and like how you slip in an adult joke or two. I have a C9 and it's been the best TV I've owned. Before my OLED I had Samsung or Sony. I replaced my Nu8000 with the C9. The Nu8000 was just over a year old and for gaming its a great TV but I wanted to future proof for PS5 and then maybe Series X.... and to justify the price I went for the C9 as it has full 2.1 but also its a screen upgrade from LED to OLED. Its true... and my friend who is a TV specialist said "you won't go back once you tried oled"... He is right. It is a superior product and the C9 looks great too. The C10 was on my list but the C9 was a good price and the 10 offers little change for the extra money so I stuck with the full bandwidth C9. Again, great videos. I've watched a few of them that you have uploaded and the infomation and understanding you portray is top class. All the best.

C9 is honestly going to be the better deal. The differences are so minuscule they are not determinable to the naked eye. Further, there really wasn't anything included for gamers that wasn't already in the C9. That's the truth. They did not improve their 2.1 connections, it's still 10bit. There is better up-scaling... that is about it. The directors mode is only good for movie enthusiasts looking for an experience, not "what is best". It's not going to matter to gamers.

The lack of DTS(HD) pass through destroys the the appeal of eARC. The alternative is to go through a receiver that's constantly outdated by HDMI specs. Sigh.

Panasonic not good for serious gamers due to slightly higher lag and they don’t support 120Hz at 1440p or even 1080p, only 60Hz

@@MerryBlind The C9 DOES support LFC at 1440p120, it doesnt at 4K60 and surely will support it at 4K120 once 2.1 videocards are released, as one of the requisites for LFC is 2.5x range in refresh rate max/min

@@skipmcilvaine I can confirm it (anyone who has it can), I have run the pendulum demo at 35/38/39 with no stuttering (vsync on) or tearing (vsync off) at 1440p120 and with stutter at 4K60. Besides, LFC has always been a part of Gsync Compatible so its logical it has it and its not announced per se

Just switch your taskbar to auto-hide in the properties and make sure you have a screen saver enabled that comes on in 5 mins and burn in won't be a problem. Confirmed CX HDR and VD fix firmware has been launched as a test update (not for consumers yet). So i hope this solves some bugs on the CX. Im glad i picked the CX ovet the C9, newer tech always get the better firmware updates in the long run, this also because the new chip can most likely run better firmware then older chips. Unless u have to pay $1000 extra for a CX i would go for a C9.

Yep, I saw that HDR and DV news on avsforums, and from what jrref said, its going to be awesome! He said he had to double check it because it looked too good to be true...excited. Right now I have brightness on 49 in HDR and DV because the raised blacks and flickering is driving me nuts

Got the C9 yesterday, cheaper and doesn't appear to be much difference when compared to CX. Loss of DTS passthru on eARC with CX sealed the deal for me. Moved from Sony LCD to C9 OLED, amazing difference ! 4 ads in this review in the first 11mins, not cool RU-vid.

There are no better alternatives for gamers this year, and any “new release” would be the 2021 model year? Vizio OLED has an opportunity but I have my doubts they can deliver a flagship experience rivaling LG

Had my eye on the C9 for awhile & was price monitoring them hoping to pick one up black Friday 2020 but the 77" models end up selling out country wide here in Australia a few months back & to my understanding they're discontinued, the last lot of them went for around $8000 AUD so when the CX became available I was gonna do the same & wait till black Friday as I expected them to be over 10k but I made a few inquiries & picked 1 up for $7300 just as they became available to the public.

Exact same situation for me, 7300$ is a good price could you please tell me where you found it a that price. Right now I feel obliged to get the 65 but I really wanted the 77. But again I think 8500$ is a bit much. Would be nice to have your help here . Thanks.

@@rachonlepatron1720From the thegoodguys but I might of gotten lucky as I bought the TV before there was pricing available an reps didn't have a number to go off besides what it cost them, But It only took 3 phone calls to different shops to get that price, first rep at a goodguys store said 8k and don't pay more, then I called harvey norman rep didn't have a number so he's like "your looking at about 10+" told him I could get it for 8 then he matched it with 7500 I told him I'd get back to him then I called a another goodguys an got 7300 I was happy with this price & went with it cause this is what I thought I'd pay if I had got it on sale. JB HIFI wasn't stocking the premium LGs when I bought mine roughly 7 weeks ago but they are now, so there's another retailer you can barter with.

Is there a reason they have dropped DTS? My Samsung Q70R also has no support, I am currently having to amend my collection of MKV's to take this into account. Why has this become an issue?

Going cheap is the issue. Get a passive DP->HDMI adapter and connect you audio through it directly to the receiver. It's a bit inconvenient, but problem fixed.

I've just ordered a 65CX, honestly I don't understand why here all the pp are saying that the cx is a downgrade. There's some bug to fix, my old C7 was plenty of then when it was release, LG will fix it's not the last company making tv in the market, so i cannot understand all this comments.

Thanks for the video. It is very helpful. I have a question. I still have problem with LG C9 TV at 4K 120 HZ. i can't run it with gsync and hdr. Without gsync I can manage 4k 120hz but the picture quality is not okay. The display of the size pass is not exactly accurate. Can you please test it at c9?

Unless you're a gamer, the picture quality upgrades are VERY minor compared to both of our C8's. If you were to strip away the HDMI 2.1 ports then there wouldn't be much of a noticeable difference unless you were to put the two models exactly side by side

No doubt LG is at the top of their game right now. Samsung REALLY dropped the ball. I love my Samsung Q8FN, but every TV they've released since has been the a downgrade in various aspects, and the Visio P series Quantum X is putting Samsung to shame now, I have no doubt that in 2021 Visio will have the absolute best LCD image quality in the $1,000-$2,000 range. It's incredible to see Samsung abandon development on their premium TV line well before they even began shutting down their LCD factories for the switch over to QD-OLED.

I wanted to order the C9!!! 65 inch. But I constantly got bad luck. And yesterday I ordered a C9 again at a company and this company had it's last one in stock, but slightly damaged. So they called me this morning to send the oled 65CX6LA for the same price as the C9. So ultimately i accepted the CX television for 1945 euro. It's I thing ultimately a very good deal right?

C7, C8, C9 didn't improve in terms of peak brightness so why would there be any brightness improvement in the CX? Look at the previous c8 reviews on rtings.

This issue is the only beef I have with this C9. The multichannel LPCM edid issue forces PC gamers like myself to choose between using GSYNC or getting stereo through my surround receiver. I'm hoping LG does commit to updating it soon.

I can already tell from your video there is very little difference between the C9 and C10 and in some ways the C10 is actualy a downgrade (lower bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, of which the implications are not fully clear at this point), no support for a certain DTS format. Literally why would anyone shell out extra money for the c10? Heck if they were equally expensive I would still get the C9 as a gamer. I'm quite happy I snagged myself a c9 55 inch for 1200 euro right now, which is even less than what the c10 48 inch is selling for right now. I mean. it's not a bad t.v., but the differences are extremely minor compared to last years model. It really seems they have already pushed their technology to the max with the C9.

I got me a C9 while I could get a CX for almost the same price. Didn't find the BFI to be something I needed. And the reduced passthrough capabilities decided it for me.

Great review, but there was no detail on the omission of DTS(Any format of DTS including DTS-X) in LG CX. Many of us who have ripped their 4K Blu-ray collections and play it through our NAS or separate hard drives connected to the TV's usb port will have an impact I guess. I don't have an AV receiver but Samsung's Ambeo soundbar and Sony's HW700DS for night time play. I'm sure like myself many prefer only DTS output over Dolby. If DTS isn't supported by LG CX but we want to play the DTS track from our ripped blurays, is there a solution ? Or do I have to get a C9 or a Panasonic/Sony ?

There won't be much of a difference between the two models .. CX has lower peak brightness than the C9, but that's about it. The CX does come with a newer AI. I'm just not sure anyone would notice that at all, since it's the same interface they use.

the 55 inch lg c9 costs 1200 euro and the cx 2000 euro and the b9 900 euro. I think that makes the cx a hard choice for many. even the b9 is 300e less than the c9 so that makes the c10 even a harder choice.

He said in the video that displaying Dolby Vision content produces floating blacks and VRR introduces lower gamma of close to 2.1 in the near black area. Can't remember him saying anything about the RU-vid app crashing though.

@@Mauro0 0 regrets as expected. No burn in. No lines on the screen. I have it wall mounted at eye level on the sofa so no looking up or down just straight on perfect. It's wall mounted on a sandstrom sfm16 full motion wall mount from currys. It's great so far! I drilled through brick into the garage though. I didn't trust the studs. Also drilled holes in the wall for cables so it's a floating screen, literally. It's amazing. I love all of its features. 2.1 ready too for when I get a PS5.

@@Mauro0 yeah.. Gaming on oled can be scary. I recommend to game on oled with lower brightness and to just shut blinds in a room or curtains to make it darker artificially, that way pixels should last longer
