LG S95QR FULL REVIEW (2022) - BETTER THAN LAST GEN ???

As someone who use to own a decent 7.2 home theatre I was looking for an all in one package for my new condo that has a smaller living room and lacks wall wiring etc. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the listening experience was from these systems for such cheap money.. I went with the LG S90QY since I also own a LG C1. The whole sound mode share & all those LG pairing features are a little gimmicky but do offer some benefit. Anyone looking for clear, loud, & fairly precise audio for that 1k price range I’d say it’s a solid bar. Certainly better than the Bose bar I heard for double the price tag. Also better than a Vizio bar that has terrible quality control.. Maybe I had low expectations, but I was certainly surprised at its ability to give over head sound effects especially with high frequency sound. I sit approximately 9 feet from the bar and my ceilings are only 9.5 feet. Some Atmos scenes with things like rain really sounds like I had dedicated height channels. I was also surprised at how much punch the sub can give and fairly decent rebound, given it’s cheap price. I expected to have some terribly inaccurate and localized bass but it’s not the case at all. The side firing speakers work on my right wall which is closer so again for medium to small room the 90qy does a good job at tricking you with surround sound. All that said, I was extremely underwhelmed by the data lite speakers and wish I spent the extra money to get the 95qy for those rear speakers they come with! The rear satellites are still a must for true surround sound but man I really wish LG would allow me to purchase better satellites similar to how Sony does it. Anyways, just figured I’d throw it out there in case it helps someone in the market. If you’re really tight on money than S90QY does a good job especially in smaller rooms, but you definitely need to buy the rear satalite speakers.. If you have the bigger budget than I wish I went with the 95QR for those rear speakers.. Side note: idk if I’ve lost my mind, but I use the 4K pass through for my Panasonic UB820 Blu-ray player and it seems that my movies coded in DTSx don’t sound nearly as good as I remembered they did and don’t sound nearly as good as the Atmos coded movies I play through the bar. I don’t know if the sound bar has trouble passing DTSx or does a better job at processing atmos etc. just figured I’d throw that out there as well!

I'm being offered this for 850 or the sp8ya for 300 with the c2. Whichbine would you recommend. My room is 17msq and 8ft high ceilings so not huge

I totally love it !! It can be beast 💪 mode on certain content more then others. I'm happy camper on this one. I'm good for a long time based on movies and shows & gaming.

I have the DS95QR that is the german Version. I love it. It replaced Name Yamaha 5.1 with AVC and is way better. Great value for Money

Agreed! Returned my 2020 SN11RG because of wi-fi connection issues that eventually failed completely. Replaced last month with the SQ95R. Sound dispersion is much better. Wi-FI connection is better, but like you, still have issues with ongoing connection to my 10XR iphone. Thought it might be my router, but your reference gladly discounts that issue. Overall, like the bar so far, but bought another Bestbuy - extra warranty - in case, like before, things don’t quite work out.

I did the same. Upgraded from the SN11RG (that's in the bedroom now) to this. I had absolutely ZERO issues connecting to the app or speakers. You mentioned the LED display turns off after some time. Mine does n't. It always says "E-ARC" and never dims or turns off. My SN11RG struggles with Dolby Atmos content. The audio would drop now and again then Mick back in and the screen in the bar would say "Dolby Atmos" again. Very glitchy. This new one never does that. It's super stable. When I stream movies they are 80 meg a second and below and it never struggles. I have this connected to the LGC2 83" and seeing that it works with the remote, it's seamless. There's nothing worse than having to use a different remote to adjust the volume. (Wife gets pissed off). If you have an lg TV then I think this is a great purchase. Sounds sick AF.

Zero issue to connect my S95QR to WiFi. I wired it to old 46' samsung tv by optical cable. Few minutes and all is done. The tv sound is pretty good, and I hope go better when I will change the tv, perhaps for a LG 65'. I'm testing the wifi soundbar performance with netflix, disney+, prime video and infinity pay tv, and it seems pretty good...

Kinda wish it was bigger because it's going to look tiny under my LG g3 but I figure it is the same company and would work better together. Never going to use streaming or play music but I'm not a fan of separate speakers or a sub. Oh well maybe an all in one

Am I understanding you correctly, the satellite speakers provide both surround and rear surround channels? If this is the case are the side speakers on the bar acting more like a wide channels then?

Great at the end of the day what really matters is seamless users experience.

You mentioned that the display on the sound bar turns off after 15 seconds of use. My display always stays on and after doing some research there does not seem to be a way to turn the display off. If you have found a solution, please share. The display is very distracting, especially given the fact that the display is not centered on the sound bar. This gives the impression that the sound bar is not actually centered under the tv, when it actually is. Also, I've adjusted the speaker settings on almost every speaker to their max settings. It might just s be on my head, but this seems to drastically improve the overall soundstage, especially for the rear speakers. I feel like increasing the speaker settings really unlocks the soundstage and provides a more immersive experience. Theoretically increasing the volume would accomplish this same function, but in actuality it doesn't provide the same experience. I would like to hear your thoughts regarding out of the box speaker settings vs almost maxed out speaker settings. One thing to note that you did not cover is the Tv Sound Mode Share. This seems like a marketing gimmick to me. When this feature is enabled, the sound bar performs poorly. I was very disappointed, as this was one of the determining factors for purchasing an LG TV/Sound bar combo. I would like to hear how the AI Calibration tool worked for you. I was able to hear a notable difference before and after calibration, but I'm not sure if that difference provides for a better listening experience. This was the first video of yours I have ever watched. I appreciate the format of the review. Definitely the best LG S95QR sound bad review to date.

I have the Vizio elevate now. Is there big improvement in this new lg sound bar over the elevate?

I just picked up this system yesterday. For the life of me I cant get my LG tv to recognize the subwoofer when trying to set up and link via bluetooth or the hdmi EARC or any other configuration. Any tips for ease of use getting the subwoofer to connect? proximity shouldn't be an issue.

Does anyone know if I can output DTS/DTSx from an LG G2 via eARC say using some of the apps like Plex. I think the LG G2 doesn’t support DTS/DTSx just wondering if I can pass it to the sound bar that does support it?

Im a Little Late to the party, but would you recommend the bar if I have a lg oled tv? Or do you thing it doesn’t matter if it’s both lg or not.

People need to check what WIFI they are using. 2,4g will give wider range but the stability drops. 5g is more stable and faster but has shorter range. Sound bars in general are on the weaker side when it comes to WIFI dongles buildt inn.

Helio, I tried connecting my Apple TV 4K 2021 model but for some reason the hdmi wont fit on the back of this soundbar.

Xbox series X with the purchased and installed Dolby Atmos and preferably DTS:X licensing as well running Halo Infinite in 120FPS mode as well as in fidelity/raytracing graphics settings in halo as well as other top series X optimized next gen games such as Doom Eternal, Gears 5 and what not. on an LG 4k120HZ HDR OLED TV (2021& newer w/ key features needed being: eARC, AMD freesync premium&Nvidia G-Sync support-you’d be running Freesync premium on xbox series x tho as that only supports AMD’s VRR technology-ALLM, HDMI 2.1 ports, game optimizer mode, HDR10/HDR10+, Dolby Vision support etc are the most important features needed for the correct way to test this soundbar for gaming) paired with this soundbar running via HDMI 2.1 eARC. The object of this test is to see if the same-manufacturer display+audio with corresponding tech can provide the full experience to next gen console with no caveats like they have managed to achieve with 120fps gaming only just recently for consoles. eARC soundbars like this SHOULD be able to keep up with 120fps gaming but ive yet to see a fully compliant fully functioning soundbar application w/ true atmos behave as it should for high performance console gaming. That is exactly what is needed to achievey the pinnacle in my opinion.

So you can only get Imax Enhanced sound with only blu rays and not through stream? That sucks. I was looking forward to that sound but not going to buy a blu ray collection for it. Nice moment #37 piece Super Turbo and 3rd Stike for life.

Just got q990b. Man they upgraded all of your complaints. Even smarttthjng is better. Finally I’m getting no disconnects versus Q90r. Rear speakers are way better. Also it’s nice and thin and built well. LG’s soundbar bar are plastic plastic plastic

Hello, thanks for the reviews, I came from Logitech Z623 THX 2.1 subwoofer 130w + 2speakers to pc, Then i bought a TV OledC2 and i put this bar LGS80QR hdmi earc, to hdmi earc TV with cable 2.1, the bass of subwoofer are very poor even at maximum, the subwoofer 130w logitech give like 5x more bass to this lg 220w, It is ruined? because i compare this lgs80qr to my cousin JBL BAR 9.1 with subwoofer 300w, and this 300w subwoofer like 10x more powerfull to this 220w LG, Something is wrong of this LG for sure, Better send it back, and get more?
