@@LGUSASupport Crazy how RU-vid could give me an answer before any tech guys could. Issue has been KNOWN by a lot of people. The sensor on the board is ass. Should be a recall on this washer. I literally slid some foil and fixed it. RU-vid-1 LG SUPPOR-0

That was the fix for my LG top loader, all their worthless support would do is say sorry you're on your own, it's over a year old.

Great fix!! I used the same thing for mine and it worked great! There is definitely something not allowing the capacitive charge to be sensed by the spring antenna. Could be either the coating rubs off over time from constant use or the humidity could mess with it also. I think the biggest design flaw is that they used too thick of a glass, as these sensors have specific tolerances for what it is capable of sensing through. By adding the tin foil behind the glass touching the spring increases the surface area and conductivity of the antenna. If this is happening to a lot of people they could update the software to lower the threshold for the sensors trigger, but that could also cause it to receive random unwanted signals. Either way it was a poor design but a simple fix if you feel comfortable opening up your control panel to do it.

Thanks for solutions provided here in the comments. I had the same problem with my just over the 1 year warranty lg top loaded washer. I was able to permanently fix by cutting a square piece of Nashua flexfix dryer vent tape ($6 for a roll) and sticking it on the outside glass over the power button. Maybe 1.5 in by 1.5 in. This amplified the capacitive charge from my finger enough to return the power button back to normal function. The tinfoil method worked as well but wasn’t as permanent as the aluminum tape fix. Did you have any luck getting your control panel to work? Mine would lag for a bit but is now completely unresponsive. Major bummer

@@craneid0841 I took ours apart and touched the "spring" (the power switch) with the tip of a screwdriver and it comes right on. I'm currently researching how these flat panel switches work. I think it's an issue with the coating between the switch and the front of the panel.

Mine stopped working about a month before the warranty expired. Had to argue with them to send a guy, then send him sooner than 2 weeks. The guy accused me of messing with it which is stupid when under warranty. He opened it jiggled something (I couldn't see exactly what), and it powered on. A few months later (after warranty) it failed again. I figured out where he "jiggled" and found an intermittent bad connection for the wires that go from the button to the controller board. Pushing gently on that would get it to power on. But now even that doesn't work. I'm unlikely to buy LG ever again.
