LG WT7060CV Washer Won't Start Button Problem

Do not buy this machine. You WILL regret it soon. Mine is less than 2 YEARS OLD! It is an LG model WT7060CV Washer and it would not start.The only service guy in Kansas City that would even come had to come out 6 times replacing parts on my LG washer and none of it solved the problem. Watch to see how I figured the Button Problem out.
Mine also has a leak on the inside as well that I can't yet figure out and it's rusting through the back cover!

You are amazing for posting this! Between your video and Mike’s suggestion of taking a pad from another function gave me the confidence I needed to take this apart and it saved me hundreds! I was having trouble even getting anyone to come out to my house to look at it. I’m replacing my LG set when I move and I don’t want throw money at my machine which is also only about two years old. Thank you, thank you!!!

Thank you for sharing this video. My 2 year old washer wouldn’t turn on. We tried everything but it still wasn’t working. My hubby and I fixed the issue by cutting a piece of metal duct tape and placing it on the back of the start button to improve the conductivity between the start button and the spring; and now it works like brand new. You saved us $, time, and stress.

You are a genius! Thank you for figuring this out and saving me from purchasing another unreliable washer. Seems two years is about the average for this button issue to crop up. Ours is about 2 years old also. This is only the video that provided me with the actual solution. We ruled out the noise filter before trying your solution, and then success!

I think back on the issue with this washer occasionally and sharing this in case it helps someone. When this first occurred, the issue with the buttons coincided with a very close lightning strike. I think the problem began the following day or so. A possible power surge? I was washing clothes and a lightning strike occurred, can't completely recall if the power flickered but vaguely feel like it did. From that point on I had issues with the button. Reset and unplug worked a couple weeks or seemed like it did, until nothing worked. I have had a surge protector on the outlet where this washer is plugged in since we repaired it. Not sure if it is helping but have the added protection just in case. So far, so good. 🤞

Can you explain how you attached the foil to the spring? And like, did you use a small ball of it, a flat square, etc? I've got the springs (not foam) and I'd like to try this, but I'm not sure how to use the foil like you did.
@travisgonzales4432

@@elizabethleee I didn't do anything fancy at all. Just cut a small piece of aluminum foil to place on the spot where the spring sits. I carefully reattached the control panel making sure the spring touched the foil. Gave it a test by turning it on and off, then reassembled

This is a good video. It's the ONLY one that addresses the real problem with these machines. Also applies to other lg and whirlpool machines. I fixed my WT7300 by carefully removing the foam pad with a small plastic pick, and moved one of the other pads from a function that I never use, to the on/off switch. Good job. Thank you.

Mike, thanks for the corroboration that the fix works. I hadn't thought about swapping the foam from one of the other buttons! But this is definitely the problem with these!
@nukya

I followed your example and moved my delay wash pad to my start button position. The piezoelectric fabric was discolored and appeared to be a light blue battery corroded color. I tried to reuse it at first with new foam and repositioning the fabric on a difference side, but It just wouldn't work. With the money I saved I'm upgrading my Kitchaid mixer. Husband's happy, kids have clean clothes so it's a win for me, lol!

I took your awesome video and applied Mike’s idea on using one of the switches we never used. A little effort and we have a working machine. Had the repair person out today and said we needed a new control board so they ordered it under our extended warranty. I had forgotten I had fallen for that when we bought it in 2019. I will now have a spare to keep replacing the sponges. Your video saved me $1800.00 as I was going to get a Speed Queen TR7 to replace the LG. Due to supply chain, there are few of them around the area so I will keep replacing sponges. Thanks so much YouGoogle!!!!!!

I have the Turbo Wash model. No button, just a cone shape spring. Small piece of aluminum foil & two-sided tape. Work like a charm. 3 screws on rear. Back cover being off. Remove U-shape plastic trim by releasing plastic tab locks on R side of circuit board, push tab forward. Once you have the two tabs on R side released and pushed forward. From front of washer use SMALL screwdriver to pry plastic trim from front control panel. Being careful not to break any of the 4 tabs. There are 2 more screws under trim to remove. Now remove the dial from panel by pulling VERY hard. Wiggle control panel loose and lay on its face. Remove 1 screw from tin cover around circuit board, and pry the 4 tin tabs loose. Wiggle tin cover loose and remove. Just 5 or 6 plastic tabs to release on circuit board frame and it’s free. Take notice the spring type button doesn’t line up centered to push to start circuit. Making sure your aluminum foil is wide enough. Good luck and don’t break any plastic tabs.😊

Thank you for the tip. Our machine has springs in place of the foam that yours has. I tried stretching out the spring a little in hopes it would make a better connection but didn't help. Great! Good job! Thanks for letting us know. But did you put the foil on the button side or the circuit board side? How did you get the foil to stay in place when you reassembled the unit?
@evergreenbrothers
@evergreenbrothers Год назад
Worked like a charm. I used regular aluminum foil for a new button to replace the foam buttons of the Power and Start/Stop button. I cut a rectangular piece of aluminum foil, about 7in by 4in. Folded it hot dog style, where the folds were about 1cm in width. So now you have a thicker piece of aluminum foil about 1cm x 7in. Either roll or fold that to get enough thickness to make a snug fit into the button slot, cut off excess aluminum foil. One was a little loose in the button slot, so I cut a real narrow piece of painters tape and wrapped that around the outside, careful to not obstruct the butt-ends where the conductors meet. That made it easy so they fit snug into the button slots, so it didn't require any adhesive. I coupled this video with "Online Appliance Tech"' video for disassembly of LG washer to get to the electronics. Thanks for the video, YouGoogle!!

Thanks for confirming. That’s what I was thinking, too. The mistake we made was that we pressed the start button to hard, because the washer wouldn’t turn on at times. We were wondering why it had this problem because back in Seoul we never had an issue with the washer. LG came and found out the machine wasn’t leveled properly when installed by Sears. He said that if not leveled correctly it won’t turn on. Since then we had no issues, but again we pressed the button to hard and the start button stopped working. Others say to replace the expensive parts but my guesses are the foam got squished. We’ll let you know. Thanks so much for posting.

You can’t help but sort of crack it up a little bit. You just have to give the knob a good yank. And then the plastic clips that hold the board in you just have to stick a little flat head screwdriver in there and pray that thing open. You will end up messing up some of them I guarantee it! But you’ve got to do what you Gotta do. If your warranty guy is coming just let him be responsible for that!

Had the very same issue today. Glad I watched your video...in addition to the LG rusting out at the bleach cup and having to fight LG to get that replaced, the power button also went out. I learned a new obstacle with LG. Make sure your serial number sticker ( which LG strategically places on the side of the machine where, as you might expect, occasionally rubs against things) is protected from wear because get this...if even ONE character is scratched away, that voids their warranty. @#%&!. But...going back to this video...great job! After I got the control panel open, I saw another cluster of the tape covered foam squares. I looked at the front face of the control panel to see what functions they served and to see if I could swap one of those. One of the functions on the control panel is remove wifi start which I'll never use so I just swapped that one for the power button spot. I also added a drop of model glue. I let it set up and tested it several times for proper connectivity and the glue didn't interfere with it so, I popped this thing back together in a few minutes and BAM...back in business.

Just a heads up on what I do. I create folders on my phone for model and serial numbers. I just take a pic of the tag then I create a folder with that name(washer, dryer, lawnmower, car VIN, vacuum, chainsaw etc). That way you don't have to run to the basement and search for the tag or run out to the garage to look at what kind of air filter you need for the mower. I also take pics of all parts that are replaced semi frequently like belts for my vacuum or belts for my air compressor. If you do it while you are fixing it it makes life a lot easier.

Thanks for this. Mine has the updated spring. The "button" on the board is not making electrical contact with the spring that activates the on/off switch. Lengthening the spring made no difference. It lines up in the center of the square part of the circle of the start button. So, I looked in my parts bin and I found a 3/8 inch wide by 1 inch piece of metal and use double sided tape and installed it in the square part to the center of the circle and it now turns on. One may have to stretch the springs a little for the on button and the start button like I did.

Mine was just snapped in. You may have to wrestle with it a bit and you will likely damage the plastic a bit. But be careful not to damage the board. I think there are about 6 places that hold it together so if you damage a few it will still snap back together. You should see mine! It was damaged bad by the service guy who never figured out the problem! I think in the end if you damage all of the plastic snaps there should be a few places where you could add a few screws. Mine had screw holes that were not used since it could snap in.

My washing machine is starting to do this too. It is less than 2 years old. After 8 months I had the bottom hose start leaking. I called LG and went back and forth as they accuse me of customer neglect. How it could be neglect when it was from the hose rubbing back and forth with the friction causing the hole to form. I ended up just fixing it myself even though it was under warranty. Now the start button is acting up too. I will never ever buy or recommend an LG product again.

At this point I think the concensus is to just compress some aluminum foil into a small cube that replaces the foam/fabric altogether. I have had my machine apart more than I care to admit, but the last thing I did was the foil square the size of the foam, and it is the best solution I believe.

@davidbabcock5955
@davidbabcock5955 2 года назад
So that panel has a housing on the back. It has a few screws. I believe that it just snaps in there. So you have to really just sort of stick some thing like a sharp screwdriver in there and pop it out and apart. Just look around and make sure there aren’t more screws that you didn’t get to. It seems like that’s always an unknown. But that is not going to be damaged most likely by just popping it apart. The control panel itself is snapped into some plastic parts and that is going to be difficult to get a part and you probably will end up damaging those pieces. It’s just how it is. But there are some extra screw holes that are used in the beginning that will come in handy if you break all the snaps. You can use some other kind of screws to hold that panel on. Hope that helps!

@SkipWhatAboutTonight

There is a metal back plate, then the circuit board just clips into the white plastic housing. It is a bit difficult to get the CB and the white housing apart, my service tech botched mine up so bad but it still clips back together. Even botched up it just snapped in. You may have to wrestle with it a bit and you will likely damage the plastic a bit. But be careful not to damage the board. I think there are about 6 places that hold it together so if you damage a few it will still snap back together. If you damage all of the plastic snaps there should be a few places where you could add a few screws. Mine had screw holes that were not used since it could snap in.

@@SkipWhatAboutTonight So the repairman came and ordered a new control panel and display board for our washing machine. When we unwrapped it a service bulletin fell out explaining to the tech what to do (so this is obviously a common issue that LG is aware of). Interestingly enough, it appears that they have updated the button mechanism, there is no foam to be found it looks as if it is now a spring instead. So, I am happy to see that there is no foam to get crushed or break down, however the display panel doesn't have much flex so it is going to be interesting to see the how it will work when the repairman swaps everything out. I will update you with the results tomorrow. BTW the service bulletin advises not to change the display panel unless necessary, but we will leave that up to the repairman. The panel has a part number of: AGL76194027 PCB Complex: EBR86498808 We have the top loader with the agitator: WT7305CV

@@jakekeiser7087 That's the first thing our repairman tried too. Default to expensive but easy repair. Unless that board has the foam or springs with it most likely you'll have the same problem is my guess. It's those buttons, not the board. @jakekeiser7087
@jakekeiser7087 2 года назад
@@SkipWhatAboutTonight Sorry forgot to update as life got busy. When the second repairman came to put the new parts on he explained that the issue involves the display panel letting in too much light and therefore not activating the button since it couldn't "sense" the finger as it was letting in too much light. I have no idea what he was talking about. He replaced both the display panel and the control board and the machine works fine for now. Something definitely changed though as our machine just doesn't sound the same anymore, it's much louder on the final drain and spin. There were no foam pieces on the old control board or the new one, I honestly don't understand how it works since the display has practically no flex to it.

It should not tear in two if the metalized fabric is still wrapped around the foam. It's pretty robust. It may have some sort of tacky adhesive to hold it in place, but I couldn't even see anything in there. I DID NOT PUT ANY ADDITIONAL GLUE when I put it back together. If you are talking about the conductive layer around the original foam, then no, just any tape will not work. This is not a pressure-sensitive button. And on my machine, there is no "pin of the switch" you mention that would puncture anything. I don't know what you are referring to. And how would puncturing foam do anything? Get a water scale and LEVEL your washer correctly. On the bottom are extra feet to help with that. Adjust them according to the leveling device you use. Once leveled the start button should work fine. DONT waist your money and listen to people who replace parts, and tell you this is a common issue with LG washers. Don’t throw out your machine, get it done by yourself!!!!! That’s about the only thing to do once in a while. We have no issues.
