Getting the PCB unit free of the housing was a struggle, but it suddenly let go all at once. And I broke a tab on that front trim piece, but don't know how. I had no trouble removing it. That aside, under an hour of work, and that includes returning to this video when I was struggling to get the board free. Glad I found this video before actually buying a whole new PCB. I had fun powering the washer on and off during the test step--after a couple years of the On button responding less and less reliably. I will note here that LG designed the Off function to only take effect after a long touch unlike the fast response to a touch for On. This is to avoid inadvertent Off actions. Many thanks, sir. If only the Search function in YT worked better so I could have found this video as one of the first I got served....

You don't need to tear the whole thing apart to get the tinfoil behind the button. I just fixed mine with the same problem by sliding the tinfoil behind the button. Taking the back off the washer was the only thing I had to do. I didn't have to take it all apart like you did in the video. Just trying to save people from all the work and time. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and now my washer works when I need it! I'm so happy!

I wish I would have watched this video prior to watching your other video with the disassembly instructions for the board, I did order the board with the spring, and it showed up, same result. Found this video, wrapped it with aluminum foil, and it works just fine. Now I hope that LG will give me a refund for the panel. Thank you for sharing, lifesaver!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Your video just saved me several hundred dollars!!!!! I think that this is due to a design flaw in the machine. If you look on the video at the 6:48 mark, (the back of the front panel) - where the power (spring) is supposed to contact the round part of the black shape------ it actually ends up lining up with the little notched part that extends to the right of the round part! It does not line up with the front panel! Rather than fitting aluminum foil around the spring, I folded a piece of it to cover the round shape, plus the extended portion, plus just a little more - and taped it to the inside of the front panel. Works like a charm! THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO - I am going to share it in the hopes that you can help hundreds of others save hundreds of dollars!

My model is less than 2 years old. I used the silver flex duct tape putting it over the power button then another piece on the little square box behind the washer where the power button is sort of flush with. It worked for about 2 months then stopped. I since then read where someone used aluminum foil. "It Works" take a piece of foil about one inch x 6 inches. and behind the washer where the power button is there is a hole. Slide the foil into the hole until it is touching the power button. Now take another piece of foil and place over the power button. The trick is to just move the foil in the hole a little bit around until it comes on. Sometimes I touch it just right and it comes on right away. Other times it may take me 30 seconds or so, but it truly works. With that being said I will ride it out until the unit stops working and will never ever buy an LG Product again. The person that gave this tip said the glass is thick and the mesh or spring on the button wears out. The tin foil acts as current to get the power button on. Please try it. Don't get frustrated, and you will here that awesome sound of it powering up.

Just did that fix to our 5 year-old washer. Worked perfectly! Ours had the foam switch instead of the spring. I fashioned a sort of cap with a small piece of foil just like you did, put it over the foam and reinstalled. Worked on the first try. Not sure how long it's going to work but at least I know for sure where the problem is. Not sure if the foam part only could be replaced, I've seen capacitance switch replacement foams sold online but not for LGs. Must be some sort of conductive carbon foam. Anyway, it's all good for now, thanks for this very good trick!

Well, I put a piece of Reynolds on the power button and it works. We'll see how long it lasts. Your YT was the only one that made any sense to me. With the cover off, my wife tapped that little foam button and did 2 loads today. So I figured the repair had to do with finger capacitance, something like that.

I took and pulled some of the sponge material out and used a spring from a ink pen cut it to fit .I pushed the spring down inside the rest of the sponge material i did add the foil it wouldn't stay in place so i added a rubber band to the base. and that is working for now. I will to the test to see if anything shows up.

But it seems to be working now and I’m very thankful. Also super curious why LG hasn’t fixed this known problem

Given the issue you're encountering, it appears necessary to replace the display control board due to the symptoms you've described. This board is crucial, especially since it links to the non-functional knob. Unlike the main control board, which is located at the back, the display control board's connection to the knob in the front is where the focus should be for resolving this problem.

Mine did not have the metal spring but a foam switch. The foam switch is a piezo switch which does what the tin foil does but was worn down. Hope that helps someone else.

@onlineappliancetech

That's a good question! I believe you have to remove sponge. and there should be a spring underneath it. I recently ran into the same problem and it did not work when I placed aluminum over the sponge. However it's already broken, so I guess it would not hurt to try.. Totally up to you if you want to try. If it doesn't work you still would have to replace the front panel and Display MPC but not Main MPC. Best of luck let me know the outcome.

Score one more for the aluminum foil patch! Worked like a charm - it is really quite shameful, that LG manufactured such a bad design for something so critical to the functioning of the washer. Without this patch, I would need to replace the entire front panel for about $250.00 (plus labor)- and this replacement panel likely has the same defect. Gives me pause about purchasing LG products with these touch panels in the future.

I guess mine is a different model because the capacitive on/off button only had a small piece of conductive foam on the top instead of a spring. Adding foil to that didn't fix it. Replacing the foam with a small spring and covering that in foil DID work though!

Extending the spring might not be the solution; only using foil could help.

Well I had this happen to me and I tried the unplugging and it worked for a day, then I tried this. I just got through and it is working, not sure for how long. But will add LG to the list of washing machines not to buy along with Samsung. Never again.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It's frustrating when appliances don't live up to expectations.

This didn’t work for us, but I was happy to be able to try a different solution. $400 fix for us 😭

Unbelievable is right!!!! The power button can't get enough "push" to activate it after less than 4 years. We tried the foil trick to no avail, but I didn't put enough. It just needs the power button to be pushed like the "old days". These soft buttons just don't do it for me. Give me the click buttons any day of the week. I'm drilling out the plastic power button cover to be able to push it manually (I have a rubber piece over the spring so it should work just as well). THANK YOU for figuring this out! You've saved many people thousands of dollars$$$$$$
