I think the candy bar might be a reference to a practice joke in Caddyshack when someone throws an Oh Henry! in the pool and it has to be cleared out because it looks exactly like a turd.
Just like back in the day, I play Duke3D with a mouse and keyboard. Seems a lot of people don't realize you can do that, but yeah, it's right there in the setup program, and then just press "U" in-game to enable mouse aiming :)
DOSBox emulates both PC speaker and MIDI be default. Turn off the MIDI support in the config if you don't want to hear it (which is what I did for my recent Super Solver Spellbound review).
Yes, HRP is an interesting mod, but I prefer the original. Somehow the mod makes it look cheaper, if that makes sense. The polymer update has helped a bit, but I still like the old look myself. Also, the WASD+mouse control scheme was available in the original Duke 3D release if you just configured the setup program for it (which is what I used in this video).
Any way I could get this game myself? I remember my dad playing this and watching him play it, when I was a kid. Wouldn't mind playing it myself :D. Juist one of those games I always wanted to but never got to play myself..
Are you using the setup program it comes with? It's a separate executable/shortcut from the game that it installs, just like in the original version of the game.
There was a weapon behind one of the speakers in the Karaoke Bar (RPG if memory serves after 20 years) in the first level that the Lazy Game Reviewer missed.
oh this takes me back in time of being a kid and how cool it was and i wish i could of played this game on my pc at the time but it was a packerd bell 386 16 mhz with 640 k and 128 k extended and this game took 4 gigs of ram i think at that time and i had no sound card ... just pc speaker ... and so i was stuck with lemmings and wolf 3d but wolf played like crap at full screen had to shrink it down to the size of a phone screen just to play it with good fps ...
those are actually amazing keyboards for this day and age. its hard to find decent mechanical keyboards these days, and DAS has a great product to offer, I've used one of their blank pro keyboards with nothing printed on it, and it was quite good. I don't own one, but the few times I've used one have been great. IBM made good rubber dome keyboards even, but I prefer the vintage AST buckling spring keyboard from 1993, and its in black, making it somewhat rare for the early 90s
If you look out the crack of the building at the end of the first level of this episode, you can see the second level - If you no-clip out there, a message from Levelord is scrawled on the wall.
Hah, the turret mounted to the ceiling in the first room of the first level reminds me of the turrets in Duke Nukem II that spun around when you shot them xD
thank you, just checked, they give you a manual, couple of wallpapers and some artwork/ringtones, which is cool but since the download is 27mb I highly doubt they'd include the first 2 games packed w/tv demo and the original build editor w/tools. what I find amusing is that they sell duke3d for about the same price at 3drealms.com (w/optional tax for not making the download expire after 30days). I wonder if that's the thing? I'd have 1.3d cd, sadly no drive anymore, I gotta be sure of what I buy
Damn, watching this video makes me realise, that Clint actually partially sounds more like Duke Nukem, when he does the voice of Duke Nukem, then JSJ in the new World Tour release. #LGR4DUKE !
I wish I knew that a year when I played the game on default. Loved the hell out of it so much I played the first 2 episodes on Come Get Some. God the bosses take forever because you die so much faster. But yeah man your total right about Episode 3 being way too hard it's nearly impossible on Come Get Some.
Mine wasn't/isn't : | I have to play the hrp on my windows 7 pc for mine to work like that. Granted that old pc didn't exactly work in a way one would call correctly.
You should totally play through both episodes of Shadow Warrior (the orginal) and Blood. I played A LOT these games. I played through Shadow Warrior on all difficulty settings without ease. I preferred the sword every time it was not suicidal, like not agains the Coulies. Shadow Warrior is awesome!
Does anyone know how I can gat classic 80's games like DOOM, Quake, Commander Keen, Diablo, and other stuff. I don't really care put I would prefer a hard copy over a download.
The quake engine was already out by the time this came out, but in my opinion they did a better job at level design in Duke Nukem 3D than in Quake. Quake feels like a very disjointed effort. Quake 2 on the other hand is a piece of art.
Im commenting on this 11 year old video cause i know youre still very active LGR. at 52:00 you state nobody could pull off being Duke in a Duke Nukem movie but I think there is one that COULD have, but we'd have to go back in time and grab Dolph Lundgren form the 80s 😁
0:18:56 how freakin' I hated that part as a kid... there was no internet to look up what to do and after a long time somehow I just did it.. I was so happy, all my friends were totally astonished. Like in the first episode, in lvl 3 in the prison, you have to go past the cave in one of the cells it's hidden behind a picture.. that was just as hard.. never used the map btw. There was another interesting thing in the space thingy episode using the noclip cheat I found a secret base somehow.
The only way I can differentiate the game and his impression is the game is quieter >.> Otherwise he actually sounds MORE like the Duke than the game does O-O
Neither do I. As an artist when our teacher shows us anatomy and has naked person for us to draw we aren't making a porno. If I put two clay figures on top of each other they aren't multiplying. You could say they are having sex, but then again in video game you could say that murder happened - how ever everyone knows its fiction. If someone gets off from watching drawn naked kids I'm happy for them, as long as they don't molest any real children.
