I have tried that Lidl beer and its lovely, I also tried their Moretti rip off and its nicer than the actual thing and so much cheaper.

Theres Birra Mapelli(Aldi) and Birra Bionda(Lidl) one is Aldi other is Lidl. And both imo taste better than moretti, even Lidls Patronus wheat beer is good for the price @@CarmanTaddio

Point is, be aware. For example, Madri is sold as a Mediterranean lager but is brewed in Burton to a double hopped Carling recipe. Any fake rip off is always going to be a fake rip off. If you want to taste Hofbrau premium, you will have to go to Munich. If you go to Italy, Peroni do a red and a blue lager. Blue is the best and has better ingredients. Very interesting taste test and thanks for posting.

Has anyone noted that, until very recently, Peroni had an abv of 5.1? I’ve had it at 5%, and admittedly, haven’t noticed a difference. Fun-fact: before an establishment can offer draught Peroni, they have to be approved by the brewery. If I’m correct, a representative visits your bar or eatery.

Having worked for Miller Brands UK some years ago, I know this used to be the case, however, since the take over by Asahi I not so sure!!

Most beers are being made weaker for tax avoidance and not passing this on to the customer. Fosters recently dropped to 3.7%. Bud is now 4.5% even Stella is weaker.

You can't really fault the Lidl or Aldi knockoff Lagers. They're normally pretty decent.

I've done this comparison and, for me, the Peroni won. I found the Birra Italiana lacking in flavour but it was still a good clean, crisp lager. I'm impressed that Lidl can sell a similar beer that's still 5% ABV so it's a proper alternative rather than a cheap compromise. If we're in Lidl and fancy some Italian beer then I tend to go for Peroni while my wife goes for the Birra Italiana so overall it's a draw in our house.

Just about to watch and I predict the Lidl beer will hold its own, I’ve always found Peroni to be overrated with a bit of a nasty aftertaste. Watched it now yes I was right!

I've tried both and even at the same price, the Lidl would win. I only drink Peroni whenI have to go to Pizza Depress (Express) and with an average pizza it is ok but I would never buy it to drink at home. Great video

Aldi and lidl have the benefit of being german companies who no doubt have contact with german breweries. That means that all their own lager - budget to premium - is either good or at least worth trying. I was even nicèly surprirsd by Gallahad lagernthe other day. More power to their elbow

Very much like Birra Moretti is brewed by Heineken. A lot of those big branded foreign beeers are actually brewed by household international corporation breweries and that's probably the issue

I thought the birra italiana smelt like Heineken and tasted like Heineken. Very skunks indeed. But I also find the time of year and weather makes a difference to beer taste. Used to love camdem hells but seems to have changed. Paulaner munich is the way forward. Yer right bowt advertising passing on the price. Great video again mate

I know that Peroni is desperate to be seen as a premium lage but to me, tastewise, it's in the Carling-Carlsberg category; a beer that I would only drink in an emergency.

It's very bitter, but not in a particularly pleasant way, I don't know why they charge so much for it in pubs. I find the Lidl and Aldi ones better, much cheaper because they haven't spent so much on branding.

Birra Italiania is almost a perfect pint! It has a crisp bitterness that makes it stronger tasting rather than sweet! I don't like Peroni I LOVE BI.

I was in Italy touring last year for 5 weeks and drank a good few peroni in red label bottle's. This isn't the same as the blue label is it?

Here in Italy we have no 620 ml bottles🤣🤣🤣Wine bottles are 750 ml and spirit bottles are 700 ml. Beers are either 660 ml bottles ( la familiare di Fantozzi😂😂😂), 500 ml, 330 ml or less (usual ripooff territory)😂😂😂 I buy 500 ml Guiness cans from Lidl. It complimens quite well a shot of an old days Johnny Walker❤

My old man is gullible enough to fall for the slick Peroni marketing nonsense which has always depressed TF out of me because he used to be a real ale drinker. I think it's second only to Budweiser as being the most oversold garbage on the market - over carbonated, bland, nondescript & cloyingly sweet. It's an _emergency_ beer for me

I had a peroni last just the other week and after tasting some other beers, Tsingtao for example, it left me wondering what the hell. And I used to order it at one pub, perhaps the best there of a bad bunch.

Keep on saying this Aldi/Lidl has the same business format as M&S except M&S did it under the St Michael brand. Copyright law in the UK is weak so M&S could copy the fine details such as dogfood with a golden retriever on the tin ie a bit like Pedigree Chum. That's why I laughed when M&S threatened to take Aldi to court over their Colin the caterpillar cake. PS it never happened

I wish they'd do these knockoffs in 4x500ml cans as well as bottles. Easier to crush and dispose of in the recycling and harder for my wife to keep count

Having worked for MBUK, Peroni is ONLY brewed in Italy in one their 5 breweries, the only exception is their Australian market which is brewed locally.

Aldi and Lidl beers are becoming very popular in this economic uncertainty and there's a lot of gems. So I think it's great to get reviews on these cheaper beers to help people who are on a small budget decide. What these reviews indicate if that paying more doesn't always mean better quality. I personally love them. They have helped me broaden my horizon beyond household craft breweries that hasn't recently dropped heavily in quality for the most part
