I love this! In fact on Ash Wednesday, our priest specifically mentioned the Lenten sacrifice that people often choose of giving up something. He said the same things about how it’s more a time for penance and reflection. His point was that finding a way to strengthen your relationship with Jesus is the point, not if you eat or don’t eat something (which is more symbolic than anything). One year when I was working in a huge hospital, I gave up elevators. So I had to take the stairs everywhere (unless there was a medical emergency). And several years, I have done a similar routine with choosing Catholic reading as what I did. There’s a lot to choose from. Scott Hahn has so many accessible books and the Bible in a Year or Catechism in a Year podcasts are excellent resources. Great video!

Yes! I would get along with your priest, lol. And gosh, giving up elevators...I don't know if I could walk that much. And Scott Hahn is so good! I need to read more of his books!

Great to hear what you’re doing for Lent. I have started a deep dive into Luke following a schedule set by multiple churches throughout Asia 😊📚

Cell phone stuff is the worst with providers and such, but yay for a new phone!!! My friend is reading 50 pages a day for lent. ❤ A lent TBR! I love that.

It is! Technology is great when it works, but frustrating when it doesn't, lol. Good luck to your friend then! I'm aiming for about 25 pages a day!

I really love Brant Pitre's writing... I have read Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Jesus and Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary which are both incredible, and I also have The Case for Jesus on my unread Catholic books shelf! I did a Lent TBR video as well, I think I am most looking forward to reading "Letter and Spirit" by Scott Hahn and continuing through the Catechism in a Year podcast. I hope you have a peaceful and fruitful Lent!

Happy Lenten season! Like the idea of books for this. I practice no dessert- it reminds me of Christ sacrifice when I go without it and the Easter special candy is that much sweeter when He is risen.

Yes! I agree. As a child, I always gave up desserts, but this year I wanted to try something new!

A good Catholic book I have read and not just for Lent is, "Left to Tell" by Imaculee. That book was poignant and it made me embrace my faith 🙏 🙌

I returned to The Imitation of Christ this year and glad you mentioned it and De Sales Devout Life, I forgot him. The Cloud of Unknowing surfaced After Lent from my pile.

Love your Lent reading plans. I am the same, previous years giving up sugar or screen time but that doesn´t really work for me anymore, so I am focusing on other stuff. I have little book with daily "readings/devotions" I read with a group of women and we call and discuss it once a week over the zoom and it´s really nice 🥰

That is very nice! Yeah, getting rid of screen time doesn't work for me anymore either.

Blessed Lent to you,I am trying to decide what I am going to read for Lent. The Bio on John XXlll is on my list as is a biography The Golden Thread : A Novel about St Ignatius Of Loyola - Louis de Wohl. I have a ton in my TBR of religious books,so I have many choices. Right now Im finishing up Little Sins Mean A Lot :Kicking Our Bad Habits Before They KIck Us - Elizabeth Scalia, a great pithy book but right on target. Also finishing up The Talisman by Steven King and Peter Staub one of the best King books I have read. Great video as always.

They are not devotional reading such as the books you presented however you may find the “Catholic novels” of Graham Greene interesting. “The Power and the Glory”, “The Heart of the Matter” and “The End of the Affair” are filled with characters coping with sin, temptations and redemption.
