At 6,000 feet in Nuevo León we see a community of plants that grow on the sediments if a Cretaceous Ocean in a seasonally dry climate. The plant diversity of this area is rich. We see entire hillsides composed of gypsum dominated by palm trees (Brahea dulcis) and strange dwarf oaks. We also see a very bizarre flower (#Aristolochia secunda) that's pollinated by fungus gnats, as well as a silvery blue fern (Notholaena bryopoda) and a gypsum endemic member of the Hydrangea family (Fendlerella lasiopetala).
