He actually gave the most important tip when he pointed at the opposing front leg and said to lift that one first (as this would tilt the back support backward and hence shift the center of mass closer to the point above the hand) but people didn't listen and lifted the leg first which they grabbed (which resulted in a tilt outwards and shift of the center of mass away from above his hand). Of course, you need some wrist strength, but even more importantly you need to understand the physics of leverage behind it.
@BenEcho

Yes! Completely agree. The thing is people were listening, it’s just incredibly hard to left the furthest leg first haha.

It's because they're all desk junkies and not men working in real jobs so they have no forearm strength it's not that they don't know how to tilt the front towards them you can tell they're trying to they just have zero forearms they might as well just go be women with a bunch of fat cells you see back in the day men had real jobs like building things and fixing things and being firemen and all this takes an extraordinary amount of energy and muscle used on a daily basis which created this generation of real men and now everything's digital digital currency digital phones digital cars digital government digital corporations and people have just turned into a sack of waste and fat

The secret is to this is to lift the farthest leg first and put all the weight onto the leg you are holding before lifting it up, this reduces the leverage while it’s still on the ground so you just need to lift the chair
@Semiotichazey

Yup you want to tip the center of gravity over your hand so there's no torque, and you're just lifting a chair then.
@wesleyrm
@wesleyrm Год назад
7:42 Yeah, make the line connecting the center of mass of the chair with your hand parallel to gravity, this way you have 0 torque (r vector and F=mg vector parallel so rxF=0). So just tilt the chair a bit closer to your face and lift it up fast.

The secret to this is in 7:42 all you have to do is lean the chair a bit to your direction so that all the weight of the chair will go to that one specific leg of the chair you are holding then you just need to immediately lift it like what that dude did. Same thing if you try to lift a long wooden plank. If you try to lift the end part of the wooden plank horizontally it will be harder to lift because the weight of the whole plank is transferred at the opposite end, but if you lift the wooden plank at the center horizontally the weight will be distributed equally and you will be able to lift it easily.

I think this task requires a lot more wrist and grip strength than arm strength. Keeping the chair steady and balanced is the hardest part. The guy at 7:40 was probably not stronger than most of the other guys here, but he leaned the chair in one direction first to shift the centre of gravity towards the chair leg he gripped so it stayed balanced as he lifted. I feel like people who do rock climbing or bouldering could do this with strength alone.
@piccolorick9269
@piccolorick9269 Год назад
The trick is to lift the front leg across the side you are holding first. Once you lift the back leg all the weight is hanging and thus tougher to lift. Lean the weight towards yourself and you should be good to go.
@BenEcho
@BenEcho Год назад
Yes! That is the right technique however the amount of force and strain on your wrist to get the opposite leg up first is much harder than you think.
@piccolorick9269

@@BenEcho of course, I’m not saying it’s not a challenge, just that it becomes easier once a technique is applied. Most people lifted the back leg first, I would bet 1/2 of them could do it with the right technique.

@anindyasundarbasu5586
@anindyasundarbasu5586 Год назад
It's not only about strength, rather it's mostly about how you apply the force. The way most people lifted, the lever became the point where they grabbed it and since then it became a Third Type lever and lifting became way harder. What should be done was to try to lift front legs first by making your elbow the liver while your whole arm rests on the ground. Thus, it becaomes second type lever and lifting then is a piece of cake
@lllifted
@lllifted Год назад
pretty sure I know the technique... just start to get the diagonal chair leg up, than balance it out and lift. pretty damn sure this is how to do it easily. if you have enough arm strength you might be able to do it without the balance thing
@SethiozProject
@SethiozProject Год назад
it's not just strenght, it's leverage. very basics of physics. you gotta lean the chair slightly backwards so weight of the backrest counters the front of the chair. angle your wrist it becomes a lot lighter, angle it wrong .. and it becomes a lot heavier. altho you still DO need some strenght. a quick "nudge" would also work, one guy tried it, but he pushed too fast and too far. just nudge it forward by about 5-10cm and then instantly lift, basically like sweeping the leg and catching the chair in its balanced position. i dont have a wooden chari to try with, but i'm 100% sure i could do it.

What about a small weight underneath the cushion? As people typically tip the chair away from them first all the weight would go to the outside making it extremely difficult. If you kept the chair tipped towards you as you lift for all the reasons mentioned and this it could be easier.
