400 Hp and Lifted... and Aerodynamics of a Cinder Block
I decided to find out the actual top speed I can reach on my truck. This run was within the capabilities of the stock driveshaft
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2wd Regular cab, L83 Engine, 6L80 Trans, 3.08 gears.
I was using E85 fuel for extra power but the Cinder Block Aerodynamics on the truck dont help when going fast
This footage was computer generated, filmed with a potato in Mexico and never actually happened. Do not attempt
First Run (Flat Ground) 136 MPH
Second Run (Slightly Uphill) 129 MPH
Do not attempt this on a truck with stock shocks
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 Mods:
-Speed Engineering Long Tubes
-Custom dual 3" Exhaust
-AirAir Intake Tube
-DiabLew custom tune
-3" Lift Spindles
-2" Rear wheel spacers
-120+ MPH capable tires
-Front Bumper/Lights
- Fox 2.0 Front Coilovers
-Bilstein 5100 rear shocks

The shorter drive shaft and 3.08 makes a world of difference in critical shaft speed.

My 2016 single cab siera hits 238 kph near the rev limiter in my car witch is about 6100 rpm, Stock only tune

I have a stock 2001 gmc 2500hd with the 6.0 would it be safe to set the speed limiter to say like 100 I’m pretty sure it is at 88 from what I read I saw some comments about the drive shafts having a max rpm couldn’t find mine with the 4.10 gears ( at some point i want to make my truck a drag truck so I’m curious about this stuff) thank you

Depends on the length/material of your drive shaft. The speedo also has to be adjusted to tire size

2500hd you should be able to remove speed limiter because drive shaft is made of better material but I advise not doing it too often so you don't mess soenthing up. I'd get a 5 inch diameter driveshaft designed for high speeds of you're racing it

The bigger tires and higher rear end lowered the driveshaft critical speed. Mine exploded at 115 with 3.42 gears and 30” tires.

BadAssEngineering thanks. My driveshaft was .075” thick at the 5” diameter portion. I didn’t measure the narrower swaged ends.

Gm only lets you get to 90 with the limiter
