Also, thanks for sharing all the nuances about belts, i havent used them that much in the past but now i feel more confident knowing what to look for when i buy one.
Love this video man and based my belt dimensions off of your recommendations from back in the day. Having owned single prong, classic lever and PAL configurations as well as belts of 10mm and 13mm thicknesses, I would say my 13mm with the PAL is by far my favorite for both squats and deadlifts. I lean towards a 10mm single prong for wearing during general heavy rows and such. Always love the powerlifting gear crash course videos, man!
Love my pioneer cut 6.5mm powerlifting belt. The adjustability comes in handy more than you'd think, especially if you wear your belt in a slightly different position between squat and deadlift.
@@giancarloarrobarodriguez5291 they have an 8.5 version and if you are unsure id highly recommend that. If youve never had a belt as thick as 10 mm then im just gonna say that that shit is THICCC like 13 is almost not usable in my opinion lol.
@@aaronblakeson8348 The 8.5MM single suede I have (and I believe the only one they sell) has the same amount of leather as a 10MM double suede and just about the same as their 6.5MM full leather belt. Suede is roughly 2.5MM, leather is 6MM, vs. the double suede with roughly 2x2MM suede, 6 MM leather. Per Pioneer, suede doesn't offer any support (it looks nice and is comfortable), only the leather does. Of course, the 10MM full leather belt they offer is 10MM of all leather, so that would offer even more support. But their best selling option is the 10MM double suede.
@@aaronblakeson8348wow, i was chatting with customer service and they said the 10mm was normal and said I should get that one because the 13mm was too thick
I'm a Fan of the Lever belts hopefully getting one soon. Definitely going for 13mm cause I feel its more durable and sturdy, planning on getting a PAL for it too in the future once I can afford.
I own the standard 10mm Inzer lever belt (bought 7 years ago and is in good condition despite hard use). I love the ease of tightening/loosening quick release mechanism. However, I wish there were 2 or 4 holes on the side where you stick the prongs in to allow the belt to be used in more sizes without the need to unscrew/re-screw the screws. The finish of the lever is a bit rough but that's purely an aesthetic thing and there are some burrs on the edge of the metal. Fortunately, I haven't been cut by the edges. Also keep in mind that where you wear the belt will likely be bigger than the waist size of your pants. I've got size medium, which can be adjusted 27" to 36". I wear ~30"-31" standard rise pants, but the widest part of my waist around my belly button measures ~34.5" and narrowest a few inches above measures 33.5", and I can only expand the size of the belt by only one more inch. I am by no means fat but deadlifting and squats tends to add some muscular bulk to the abdomen muscles. I've tried a 2-prong belt a few times, but I hated how difficult it was to take off and felt a bit like I was being bear hugged by the belt against my will and experienced some anxiety because of that.
I had a cheap eBay lever belt which I thought was ok. Then jumped in and got the SBD lever belt and byyyy gawwwd it was awesome. So much difference. And definitely get that lever release schhhnap. Comprehensive video as always.
Wahlander make the best double pronged belts in the world in my opinion. The Rolls Royce of belts. I believe they even make Eleiko’s powerlfiting belt for them under Eleiko branding.
Yeh, they look well made. I just like the backstory to Wahlander… Swedish, hand made etc. I have an SBD as well, but I prefer the double prong to a lever belt for the reasons you outlined. Especially if you’re bulking and cutting a lot, or if you have a garage gym in a seasonal country like the UK where there is a lot of climate variability and you’re wearing different layers of clothing from one session to the next.
I’m not 100% on this as I ordered a copy off Ali express as I didn’t want to spend $250 to talk about it for 2 min on a video. But given their size chart I would have likely ordered a large as I have a 33in waist.
One other factor that may be significant for some people is that if you work out in a non-climate controlled environment, you may want all the size options that a prong style (pioneer cut in particular) belt gives you for clothing layers.
Hey Brandon. Is there anything special or that I need to know about the holes on a lever belt? Asking because I can get a belt for free but it’ll be too big for me so wondering if I can get holes punched in it. Should I punch them into where the lever screws to or where the lever clasps onto? Just want to know what to be aware of.
You would prob want to put them where the lever mechanism attaches to the belt (single row of holes). The issue may be dealing with a bunch of overlap in that case however.
How did you keep a straight face during this video? Dear me man! Anyways, excellent video, just the information I was looking for after increasing my deadlift a lot over past few months!!
I heard Jordan Feigenbaum mention that a lever belt can potentially be dangerous if they come unlatched during a lift. I didn't think this was ever really possible, but i guess it could be? I have a lever inzer and have always enjoyed using it.
@BasementBrandon do you know which model? Looks like they have a number of models but I don't see one called a slipper. I'm looking to get the equipment I need for my first powerlifting meet
@BasementBrandon can't afford a deadlift and separate squat shoe. If I can only afford one shoe for competition, but would perform well for both deadlifting and squatting, what would you recommend?
I'm looking for my first belt to buy. I have my heart set on a lever belt but I see a lot of strongman competitors using velcro lol. I'm a huge fan of Larry Wheels so I'm thinking maybe I should get his belt. One of my buddies recommended I get Inzer or SBD but the SBD is crazy expensive.
I’ve been using the Rogue Velcro belt. Lift 5x days a week for years now mainly doing dead’s, squat, etc…. Never used a lever belt, is it worth the upgrade?
you forgot to mention one of the main advantages of lever belt: In between sets you just "click" it open to breathe better- it remains on the hip until you "click" it closed for the next set.
I was wondering, how many videos one can make about his belts. Apparently, not enough :) I was binge watching your videos on the topic and it helped me to take a step forward and order a lever belt. I was going to order the PAL, but importing it to Europe would have been close to the price of SBD, with all the dick measuring going on in the neighboring countries and their effects on our currency, so I went with the SBD. I used the Rouge prong belt prior and I have to say, wearing the SBD is like falling in love for the first time and you do not even have to cheat on your wife, to do so. Thanks a lot for all the information, it was really useful for me!
@@BasementBrandon thanks, that's great to hear! I'm leaning towards the A7 version because of easier shipping within EU, but ofc it costs more. I already got the pioneer hybrid belt in medium and it's a great fit even though I'm like 235, let's see.
Is that sbd knock off holding up nicely? I have my legit sbd but since it has gone up in price i don't want to use it and wear and tear it too much, so I'm thinking buying a new one, between pioneer or titan but that knock off seems not that bad... What's your opinion about that belt?
Wish I watched this 2 weeks ago before ordering a belt. I got a lever belt and I'm having the adjustability issue. The one I got was ever so slightly too big, so I drilled a hole because it was a closeout on sale item so no worry of voiding my warranty lmao. Then it was nice and tight. Next morning I go down to sue it and its too big again lmao. Apparently I had more food in me the night before. So now I need to drill another hole or gain a few pounds. I wish I had the fine tunable lever belt or the prong one with way more holes.
@@BasementBrandon since I've got a garage gym I worry more about heavy singles during the winter months since I can't open the door to be outside. During the warmer months 65* and up the door is open and I do plenty of high rep work to drop the weight. Typical heavyweight powerlifter 🤣🤣🤣🤣 5/3/1 5Pros and BBB for summer work. JAILHOUSE Strong during the winter because of the heavy sets on singles.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks! I’m kinda surprised that a knock off exists for the belt. I thought SBD was pretty strict about no one else using their designs
@@BasementBrandon thanks brother but what i meant to say does it make a different between a leathers belt or a nylons which one is the best for powerlifting and weightlifting
@@YEMEN519 Leather makes more sense for Powerlifting to me since it's more supportive. Some people prefer nylon belts for WL since they offer some support, but also allow you to move much easier and are less bulky.
Great video and great explanations. I feel that Gluck would have done better on the "innuendo", but then again that would appear to be Adrian's specialty.
@@BasementBrandon Personally I'm surprised that Winnie(sic) will kiss Gluck's potty mouth but obviously they already have one child together with another on the way. You, Coop, and Gluck are the"big three" though.
@@AlbertFischer Hah I'm just messing around, Gluck is great, watch all his stuff. He tends to script his videos though, so I'm working on a handicap since I don't. 🥸
@@BasementBrandon I enjoyed your original response. It reminded me of something I would hear watching wrestling on Saturday mornings as a kid in the 70s.(Back when they still had midget wrestling of all things.)
