I’ve been contemplating about getting a Bestman for awhile. Love that ebony version. It just looks classy. Perfect gentleman’s knife. This video just might make me pull the trigger and order one.

Great video! You are officially the first subscription I ever hit the bell for to be alerted. Huge fan of lionsteel, I own a 4. The craftsmanship, detail and new technologies they use are amazing. Lionsteel as a whole is underrated

They will fit in the MKM leather slips with the magnetic loop. I love those slip pouches for all my modern traditionals.

I love “modern traditionals”. I’m also in love with them. Just got that micarta Bestman on Monday. It’s pretty awesome. As good as the lionsteel dom, which is also awesome. That elastic on the pouch is really useful for a space pen instead of a ferro rod. Probably not too many situations when you’d have a slip joint and a ferro rod. Thanks for the content, MC!

Hitch and Timber leather slips are fantastic! I have 3 pieces from him so far, all wonderfully made. Highly recommended to round out a sexy carry set up.

I've had both the Best Man and it's even more modern counterpart the Thrill. Absolutely adore the Thrill, integral alumnium body and once you get used to the HWAYL clip it beats everything else, eliminates clip hotspots. It's my #1 go-to knife for dinners out, even use it as a steak knife when the restaurant ones are rubbish!

Glad to see a slip joint on your channel. I know they aren't for everyone, but I appreciate the history and tradition associated with slip joints. Lionsteel does a great job combining traditional patterns with modern materials. Also, haha, the dude who complained that a slip joint didn't have a lock. Oh man.. Clearly not a knowledgeable knife collector.

I have a lionsteel m1 fixed blade in 390 that I use sometimes as an edc and I love it. The quality is wonderful and the steel has been great. I would not have any problem worrying about the quality of these knives under review. I don't personally use slip joints, but if I did I would definitely buy one of these.

I am not a slip joint fan but I love my CRK Impinda … Easy to open, hard to close and you can disassemble it with common tools … I carry it in a leather slip without a clip (it is removable) and it is a great office carry.

I have become a huge fan of slip joint knives and own 4 made by Lionsteel. They are all excellently crafted. You should check out the Lionsteel Thrill which is an Integral slip joint in M390 for $120. Good review.

I keep a single-blade clip point Best Man in olive wood on my desk. I prefer to EDC a knife with a pocket clip, but as a light-use desk knife, I like this one a lot.

The hitch and timber runt 2.0 is the pouch I believe. And it holds a fisher space pen perfectly in the elastic loop. 🤙🤙

Yeah, I came to say exactly this: why a ferro rod? Carry a nice small pen in that elastic slot and you have a complete edc solution.

I've gotten into modern traditionals. I do wish Lionsteel would make a lockback version of the Best Man, though. GEK's and some Case's are great too, as are Spyderco's Roadie and UKPK, IMO. I also have an Ohta friction folder in D2 and purpleheart wood that I love. I don't that that narrow slot is for a ferro rod, lol...I think it's for a pen.

Not a slipjoint guy, but I can appreciate solid materials, good design, and build quality. My pena x series Lanny's clip flipper is a favorite 'modern traditional' but my civivi rustic gent in wimascus is not far behind at a much lower price.

Ya know it's interesting to me that you wouldn't be impressed with the 2 blade version, because in my mind; having multiple blades (especially with differing shapes) is one of the most appealing aspects of a traditional slip joint knife. Just goes to show why knife collecting is such an all inclusive and varying hobby. Love it though. Good stuff

If you want to review another slipjoint, try lionsteel Gitano. It has a really stiff mechanism that may actually pass spine wack tests that would fail many frame locks. It's also in Niolox, which in my experience lionsteel treats better than their m390.

That Gitano is nice, and the pocket clip should please the kids. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to decide between carbon fiber or G10.

Since France doesn't allow knives, I only carry a traditional while in the City to be less bothered by authorities. I have the exact same Ebony Bestman with a leather pouch just fitting it perfectly. It's a good knife, I had PTSD over the whole shabang' surrounding lionsteel m390, even after it had been revealed to be fake. However, the steel seems to perform "correctly".

@@Nolimitlandon2310 It is m390 really. People were just saying the heat treat wasn't good at all on one of their Barlows. IT isn't half as bad in reality, Lionsteel says they their m390 is heat treated by a company to 60-61 Hrc. Must by the tiniest bit lower tho, like 58-59

The funny thing about the "soft" m390 controversy is that in the traditional world the "traditional" option is 1095 @ 56 hrc at the same price point... so, yeah, soft m390 🤷‍♂️

Except that 1095 gets a lot of toughness going to 56 from 60. M390 due to high amount of carbides doesn't get any significant toughness bonus going softer. Also, low HRC is only the tip of the iceberg, where the HT went wrong to produce a soft blade is the more serious problem, because it can be that the retained austenite is too high and it will not deburr normally nor will it hold an edge for any significant amount of time despite hrc being acceptable. Read more at knife steel nerd's M390 article, where Larrin explained in great detail.

Slip joints are just not my style, I really enjoy a more interesting locking mechanism. But this is why I enjoy your content, you seem to give just about any style of knife a review. Exposing people to stuff they may not necessarily check out on their own. Great content as usual!

Got my hands of a bestman. My wife pretty much doesn't care what I spend y money on. I just have a hard time justifying the price for the knife. I know materials alone argument should cover it. It's a slip joint.

No matter the materials or how cool they look i just have no want for a slip joint, outdated doesn't even begin to describe how far behind they are today's average pocket knife. There are just much better options out there no matter the price range in my opinion.

I'm not trying to be a jerk... but that's like saying there's no reason to enjoy classic cars because you can currently buy something more modern/efficient/performance based. The reason slip joints and traditional knives are still popular is because people enjoy the simple classic nature of them. It's really not about being the best/newest this or that.

The technology and performance is really not taken into account by everyone, some people just want it to look good by their standards :)

@@ramonade_knives it is a taste / preference thing and I'm glad the options are out there for those people. To me its not even about materials, my daily beater is a honey badger wharncleaver. I just like knowing my knife is in the same place every time and being able to use it one handed. Being the only maintenance man on my shift i don't always have both hands or the time to stop what I'm doing to dig around in my pocket to find my knife.
