Exactly what I was thinking! I already knew that I wouldn't like the song because having a song titled "rockstar" w/o any rock elements is unacceptable to me.
I‘m just confused how she says she‘s a rockstar - she‘s not. It‘s not a rock song and she hasn’t done rock in her entire life, it‘s some kind of „costume“ but it doesn’t work at all 😭
I saw the "Lisa can you teach me japanese" explanation somewhere it said : When talking about Asia people only think about few countries like Japan Korea and China and Lisa is from Thailand which is basically non existent to many people in the west so when people see Lisa they ask her to teach them japanese indirectly implying that Lisa was seen as from the typical Asian countries ( ie Japan Korea or China )
But Thailand is a pretty famous Asian country. I'd say maybe Brunei or Bhutan would be forgotten, but most know Thailand. If nothing else, for it's vacation destinations and BL shows.
@@Jinglism8 ???? It’s the truth though…… unlike some kpop fans I mostly like to watch these lyric videos and most of the lyrics don’t make sense. Don’t trash my music taste just because you can’t accept the truth.
To me, the song gives a 4th gen song sang by a 3rd gen cause it was repEtitive, some parts made some sense, but it was catchy but considering fans waiTed how long for this the hype was unecessary (probably cause people thought she would come back bigger and better) for a song lIke this
The song is not some 4th gen meaningless. The song name rockstar refers to The Underground rappers situated in thailand since Thailand is a hub for underground rappers and Lisa is telling how she came up from there. She is basically representing the truths and hidden things about Thailand like This underground stuff and the whole trans, LGBTQ community where Thailand has this ladyboy things in the past couple of years. She is just saying she came up from there and is proud of herself. But People often thinks of Thai people to be somewhere from Japan/China which is a stereotype. I am glad she made a meaningful song and that too about her country. She should be proud and Blinks are proud of her. Please don't spread misinformation if you don't know a thing.
Oh pls stop calling anything you don’t like “4th gen” as if that’s a new thing. Repetitiveness always existed in kpop and has so many well known examples of that. If you don’t like the repetitive lyrics, that’s fine you can say that. But i feel like nowadays whenever someone doesn’t like an aspect of a song they just call it trying to hop on the “4th gen trends” even tho it doesn’t specifically come from 4th gen. Lisa is clearly inspired by artists like Rihanna and dance hiphop genre and that typa music has always had repetitiveness
Uhm no?? Just like you everyone else has a different taste in music,a DIFFERENT opinion. Soo some people may love this song and others may hate it.Personally '''ROCKSTAR" is my fav song from lisa while you don't like it and that's fine. But just bc you don't like it doesn't mean is bad...
Ikr better than lalisa that actually made no sense , typical repetetive and recycle song of yg , the chorus of rocktsare doesnt make sense but at least the elements in the mv does make sense the transgender girls that apeard , that scene when the were all wearing white showcasing the stereotype of " Asians look all the same" and that Asians are Chinese and Japanese forgetting about South Asia and a lot more , and the title is rockstare the lyrics is literally about it
Oh no that song was also not good. But for the record seeing this comment had me scream out loud lol. My main issue was there just wasnt enough song in this song. It's only 2 half verses (the vocal and rap "verse" were only 8 bars each) the rest of the song is pre-chorus/chorus/post-chorus over and over. That is the danger of starting your song with the chorus: you have to say something else because we are going to hear that opening at least 2 more times in this song.
I had a problem with it. Babymonster is talented, but they need someone to write them better songs. But I would argue that Lisa’s song is way more poorly written than Sheesh.
The lyrics were too corny, too repetitive, and slightly cringey. The people who wrote the lyrics could’ve written it better imo. And I think what makes it disappointing and underwhelming is the fact that the video is like 2 minutes long, with strange lyrics. Honestly speaking, I like the fact that she is creating a whole new identity for herself and she has presented herself in a new light by dropping this video, but this song could be improved a lot. I am not saying it’s a shit song because there are elements in the song which is quite good, but I feel like there was something missing or something could’ve been changed to make it better. But I won’t lie, the song is catchy. The “Lisa teach me Japanese” part is extremely contagious. 😂😳 Anyways, ain’t this a pre-release?
@@ummearba-sc5kiif u can’t understand the meaning after looking up the lyrics and have to search for the meaning yourself then u failed as a writer.easy!
Well take a guess who wrote it none other than one republic front mam Ryan tedder so yeah I wasn't expecting much his production are always a hit or miss
The "Lisa can you teach me japanese" part was lowkey kind of cringe to me, even though I know the meaning behind the lyric. But that doesn't make the entire song bad...
People need to understand that every argument has one contrasting. “Lyrics don’t have to make sense” - then why deny they don’t make sense when they don’t have to? “It has a meaning people just don’t understand” - if you know the meaning it still doesn’t chance a song with a vibe for everyone “It’s not repeated it’s normal lyrics” - lyrics can be repetitive (especially in the pre-chorus and chorus) so there’s no harm in admitting a song uses this tac tic. In other words, there’s nothing wrong with this song and there’s nothing wrong with admitting it’s flaws either. If you like it, listen to it. If you don’t like it, skip it.
I agree! Why does the song need to have a meaning or lyrics that mean something to be a good song? Cause let me tell you I’m not gonna be thinking of the meaning of a song while I’m dancing and singing my heart out
"Lyrics don't make sense" is an opinion, not a fact. The "Lisa can you teach me Japanese" one is for example supposed to critique how westerners only see Asia as Japan and China. Just because you don't understand the lyrics doesn't mean they don't have a meaning and your interpretation of them is a you problem. Someone could easily say Ddaeng lyrics make no sense and sound like gibberish - that's an opinion they formed because THEY don't understand the lyrics.
@@v_doll that’s one line. The rest do not make sense and again it’s okay to admit it. It’s a you problem to assume that everyone is going to think lyrics such as “gold teeth sitting” etc would make sense to anyone else. And as said, even a song with a meaning can have a verse that makes zero sense logically speaking. AND ITS OKAY.
Do I wish the song called "Rockstar" featured rock elements in the music? Yes. Do I think its a weird move for Lisa, who is known mostly for her rapping? Also yes. But honestly its her best solo work and its better than Babymonster saying "sheesh" a thousand times >.>
"Lisa can you teach me japanese" is her calling out non asian ppl who assume that when some1 is from asia they r japanese or chinese. It makes sense Edit: yall in the comments are making no sense, go search it up instead of being in denial
no they just put these lyrics because that’s all they could think of. blackpink’s lyrics have never really had much meaning like in Kill This Love it’s just “dUNgDuNGDurrRUuRUuu” at the end cuz why not
@@user-vv7hc7kb5obro how else do you expect to find the meanings in songs? Yk use a bit of your brain, some common sense and some imagination. Obviously the people here who don’t see the meaning don’t have any of those aspects I just mentioned. When you listen to a song the meaning doesn’t just scream out, it’s implied and you have to work that out. God knows how ppl can be so dumb in this comment section And before any of you attack me I’m a jisoo solo Stan and not a blink.
@@user-uw6ub8ob3k And if YOU had a brain then you’d know not every single song has a deep meaning or a meaning at all.. sometimes a song is just a song, no creative thinking and no runaround lyrics, just straight to the point and done🌚.
dude more than 98% of krappers don't even write their own song is fucking funny bro Lisa IS a rapper she wrote this song just like she wrote other songs aswell you just don't wanna accept it cause it's Lisa
THE LYRICS IS JUST TALKING ABOUT HER BECAUSE SHE CAN SING AND RAP. SHE ALSO SPEAK MANY LANGUAGES. SO WHEN SHE SAID " SHE A ROCKSTAR" SHE IS TALKING ABOUT HERSELF
I saw something explaining how the lyrics and video are actually quite meaningful, its symbolizing how people assume 'all asians look the same' which is symbolized by a part of the mv where a ton of people are all dressed in white coats, and the lyrics 'lalisa can you teach me Japanese' is showing the stereotypes peop,e often assume
I think just a It’s a money grab, her lowest Asian market revenue is Japan so putting Japanese will help it be viral there. Anything she puts out people will line up to give her money so rake it up. It doesn’t seem like BP will be doing anything for a while.
I just watched a video, which says the lyrics. Although it doesn't have that much meaning on its own. It corresponds to names of songs that Lisa likes. And each one has a meaning on its own. 😊
@@_JustArandomMultistan_ That’s literally the ONLY part. even that has no correlation, therefore it’s seen as unnecessary..no lyrics before or after lead to that line..it was random and weird
A true rapper should have some meaning in her or his rap and like she could have bragged about her success but her rap was what can I say (cringe I guess) honestly I am not a blink anymore but I thought her solo would be a blast as she left yg but I guess yg gave her better songs mv was mind blowing but lyrics weren't and la-la lisa can you teach me japanese was the weirdest part for me
Right like what is that supposed to mean? (the hai hai part) The rap itself wasn’t that crazy either. Honestly, I had to look up the lyrics cus I didn’t understand what she was saying.
@@perfectgamerkitty4717 maybe that she's been around the world and therefore knows multiple languages?? But she had like at least 2 minutes she could've added to the song to explain. Edit: from my knowledge, people usually associate rockstars to being extremely famous, having social status, and a fast-paced "crazy" lifestyle.
" gold teeth on the dash"- showing of she got money by telling she got gold and a nice car " can you teach me japanese, that's my life"- her having experienced racism by nonasian putting her in a stereotypical box of all asian only being korean, chinese or japanese. That's the explanation, pls ask before making prejudices, yall know people who don't ask are stupid
I feel like it's not even the lyrics that are the issue fr I mean they're part of it because they imo are kinda cringey but the concept doesn't make sense whatsoever and the song itself is underwhelming
Don't know why you think music only has to have one meaning it's to us making our own meanings of it so everybody can relate to it, that's the definition of art
@@iskojc3574She doesn’t have to??? Then technically no songs gphave meanings because no artist is going to sit down and tell the meaning of every line😂💀
Yes it is repetitive, yes it makes sense idk what is wrong with yall if it's not your style atleast don't hate it I don't see any problem with the song. It sounds fucking great. Some of you need to get out of the mainstream style of music. It's so catchy. Also not all songs have to make sense bruh.
Regardless of whether the lyrics don't make sense to some, or people think they're repetitive, it doesn't have to be something to get all riled up about. The artist is making music they like, and at the end of the day that's the main thing as they're the ones who have to perform it. Don't like something, just move on to something you do like
Its talking about her life as a rockstar... Gold teeth on the dash: she has money for grills and to show them off (a grill is also another name for the front end of a car, so it has double meaning). The part about speaking Japanese could mean that because she goes everywhere in the world, she's learned to speak a lot of languages (but I've seen other explanations for this, too). It's not the most incredible song in the world, but it certainly makes sense if you spend more than one second thinking about it. Sounds like these people are just picking on her for no reason.
i really liked the song i think the lyrics made perfect sense but everyone has different opinions about certain things, Lisa showed a new side of herself in her rap and singing. I’m pretty sure as her solo journey continues she’ll have even better songs journey top rockstar. I’m going to continue supporting Lisa and her journey. This was an amazing start to her solo career!!!

Lol, the lyrics sound like it was generated by an AI. She left Yg so i really expected her to make a good song, but no wonder why yg didn't let her write her own songs
Well, as Thai who know the story behinds this sentence, this is completely sensible. Like Lisa, some recognised her as Japanese and asked her to teach Japanese in the very beginning of her debut era. And now, she still remember it and put it in this song. Just that. It’s a sense of humour. And I also see many comments state that Thailand is popular, but if we talk about the ppl themselves, when we travel to another zone like Europe or America, most of the time we are misunderstood to be Chinese, Japanese or other big countries. Actually, even among Thai, sometimes they think that I’m a TH-CH girl 😂
C'mon guys she is basically talking about in which type of era she has grown up as thailand is known for its rocky and gangster type concepts and about "lisa can you teach me japanese" she signifies that foriegn people find almost every asian japanese and non-asian people think that she is japanese so they ask her if she can teach them japanese.

It's literally a song that's meant for people to dance to / groove with. Not to cry to. This was a bop and obviously a hit! They know what they're doing. The beats, the repetitive lines - they're all meant to be that way. Here for it! 🎉❤
It's rap. And rap and blues is poetry. Kendrick won a pulitzer for his album. I get it's fun song but people look up the meaning of rap songs that's the point.
Ya it's just a below mid song and the fact that blink exaggerate this song so much by saying it a masterpiece and it slap hard are just bullshit . They intentionally watch this song too much to make it top on billboard even tho the song is crap and snaching the opportunity of deserving artists who are actually good .
This song is stupid to be honest, one of the worst songs i have ever heard... I read many comments, the song give them headaches 😂😂 They just stop listening ☠️
Still a good catchy song tho🤷♀️ sometimes I need a song that doesn’t have a meaning just one to vibe and feel cool🤷♀️ still love it 😅! One of my favs!! I wish it was longer tho!
Ima try to explain this. "Gold teeth sitting on a dash" Means that she has grillz or enough money to buy ones?? "Make your favorite singer wanna rap" Means that she can both sing and rap so hearing her would want your favorite singer to be able to rap. "Lisa can you teach me Japanese? I said sure sure! That's my life life baby I'm a rockstar" I guess it's a rhyming game used in her lyrics since sure in Japanese rhymes with life, she also explains how her life is as a rockstar. "Been on a mission boy they call em catch and kill" Meaning of the phrase: "May also refer to the practice of buying up competitors to eliminate competition." So basically she can eliminate her competition easily. "I'm stealing diamonds make em chase me for the thrill" She like being a bad girl and gets in trouble for fun? "Been MIA, BKK so pretty" MIA stands for missing in action. So basically she's saying she's been absent and hasn't made music for a while but now she's back. BKK stands for Bangkok, she's explaining how Bangkok is pretty. "Every city that I go is my city" Meaning she belongs anywhere she goes. "Make a wish baby what you wanna do? Dripping outta big cities like a ponzu. It's a fast life it's an attitude. Put it on the calendar and tell me when to come through" (This is the rap verse so it's long and it's all connected) She explains how she got no time for people as being a celebrity is a very difficult life and if you want to see her it needs to be in her calendar. Btw a ponzu is a dipping sauce which is described with a citrus taste, again I think it's a rhyming game bc idk what ponzu has to do with anything. "It's not hype hype baby make you rock hard" I think we all know what that means (I didn't explain the whole song bc it's repetitive with these same lyrics I already explained) So basically this song is abt how she deals with life as a kpop idol, she explains herself as a rockstar. And how living this life is not easy but with hard work she accomplished being the most successful Thai idol in Kpop! Again this is just what I think the lyrics mean and I looked up my info on Google so it's certain. I feel like a lot of songs have lyrics with deep meanings to it you just have to pay close attention, so saying that the song makes no sense is just wrong. Ty for reading till the end of my comment, feel free to comment urself! Also if u made it to the end tell me ur bias in BlackPink (If u stan) and if you liked Rockstar! 🤗 (Lisa is my bias! I did like the song, Imo best solo song she's released)
Dripped can mean she's covered in diamonds or jewlery. and sauced can mean to two things - and I'm guessing it's not the high on weed but that she's dripping in swag, hence the sauce. Sometimes in aae we say swagu - swag and ragu sauce. See Kanye West saying "She got the swag so she dripped in swagu" in the song Party by Beyonce ft Andre 3000. Though there is a j.cole version. TLDR; she's dripped in swag. It's aae not suprised people didn't get it. Maybe she should've used slang from Thailand.
@@alwaystaa_officialmost people think only Asia consists of Korea, Japan and China without exploring the remaining parts and with Lisa many confused her to be Japanese because of Kpop whitewashing her when she is basically from Thai
@alwaystaa_official I read it somewhere but I forgot a lil I read that it's about how people think about Asia's countries Better explanation: people forget about other countries and only think that China x Japan (some think Korea) exists which is why she said *lisa can you teach me Japanese*
I do not understand why people claim that song lyrics are meaningless. If you look at kpop songs, there are a lot of songs with meaningless lyrics, but you still like them. However, when it comes to songs by Black Pink members, people started criticizing them without any justification.
I've never heard one k pop song with English lyrics in it that made any sense. They just search for trending words and mix them together. A "rockstar" nowadays is a rapper cosplaying a rockstar. Everything is aesthetics not a lifestyle.
I was waiting for someone to say this first. The lyrics made zero sense! I mean who would ask her to teach Japanese! Come on! I was thinking maybe she wrote the lyrics and not a pro maybe? Also, the song was just okay only for me. If she was not a kpop singer and just an average English singer, the song would go unnoticed, uncharted. Again it was too small for a cb from somebody at her position! Too repetitive and no highlighting part or memorable parts. The only positive I felt is that I was surprised by the improvement in her singing. Last time I liked her singing in 'Sour Candy' with Lady Gaga.
@@nuning1365 Okay, I read it now and understood the scenario. So she wrote the lyrics??? Still the first sentence and most of it doesn't make any sense at all. Mostly like trying to make it rhyme or sound same.
