I use to think that Clive's head was a note pad. But then he said that his factory once made calenders, and then in the 1st cut scene in Eve's Asylum she said calender man.
I think Eve had a bit of a crush on Clive, as she always seemed happy when she was looking at him when I was playing. Edit: PLEASE DON'T START MAKING FANFACTION OF THIS. IT DOESN'T NEED TO HAPPEN.
I never thought such a happily peaceful game could have such a harshly Orwellian song in it, but it's perfect for the environment. I can't help but feel like I'm in the day-to-day rut of walking to work, sitting down to work for 12 hours, then walking back home just to do it all again tomorrow. It just perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being a drone, not really living life, but just moving through it on the way to your next meeting. The introduction of the jazz ensemble and orchestra add a feeling of hope to the droning melody, but they too just end up accompanying it, their act of "rebellion" quelled by the oppressive synths. good song
Coming back to it, I just realized that the ensemble and the orchestra play with a bit of syncopation when they first come in, but the second time around they are perfectly in line with the melody. Who knew you could oppress music.
I love the theming of this game. You start out with DaVinci’s Hideout, which is based on very old Renaissance technology, then next we move onto Victoria’s Laboratory which is obviously based on the beginning of the industrial revolution during the Victorian era, and then next we have the Factory of a Better Tomorrow which is this weird amalgamation of Cold War Russia and America, having tons of communism propaganda and red theming as well as retro 1950s American decal, music, all sorts. Even Avalon beyond this focuses way more on “futuristic” stuff, it really drives home how LBP 2 was all about technology, and the story mode was a journey through the evolution of Technology.
I never thought of it like that, but it just makes perfect sense! However, while the Cosmos is sensible as to why it is the final area, why would Eve's Asylum be between two very futuristic locations?
Da Vinci's Hideout - Inventing Technology Victoria's Laboratory - Harnessing Technology The Factory of a Better Tomorrow - Abusing Technology Avalonia - Idealizing Technology Eve's Asylum for the Mentally Alternative - Preserving Technology The Cosmos - Weaponizing Technology
@@gravity1537 You might argue that Eve's Asylum represents the "solar punk" stage of technology, a hopeful vision where nature and technology are incorporated seamlessly into one another-A sort of progression off Avalon's futuristic theme, where the tech has progressed to that kind of harmony with nature.
@@grim66 I just googled Solar punk, and it presents one of the most hopeful, beautifully optimistic visions of our future. What other "punks," such as steampunk or solarpunk, do you know of?
Clive may be a bit on the depressed side, but he and Eve were the only characters who took the effort to actually follow you throughout every level in Story Mode. One time I stuck a photo of my sackperson on his face.
No, the factory is clearly represented as the "failed idea of communism". The levels themselves show a rundown factory where sack-bots are enslaved and brainwashed, showing a terrible working environment. This is all fine, however the bias comes in with the abundance of Soviet symbolism in the levels which clearly represent that this is a socialist society and that it is terrible- the red metal which can be associated to the "Red scare" and the colour red in socialist symbolism, the metal and red fist decorations and stickers, and most importantly and obviously the "Robot Lenin" sticker. This wasn't new to LBP2 however. If you recall the main antagonist of the first game in the series, the Collector, lived in a rundown Soviet-era bunker. It's a pretty clear case of Russophobia and anti-social symbolism when you paint villains and terrible factories as "the commies". I suppose it's much easier to brainwash the children while they are young however, and MM definitely did.
Ivan Oid yeah, youre right.. i was blind because i was sad about the fact that my childhood was basically anti communist propaganda, well , atleast they only attacked the 'communism' that ruled the soviet union ,considering stalins regime did not have that much to do with the original idea of communism. Thank you for correcting me though and yes, i remember the first game, I actually really liked the villian (did he even have a name?) though
In reality, no regime every had much to do with the true idea of communism. However some, such as the USSR or Burkina Faso, excelled in the field of socialism, which in turn would lead to communism with dialectical materialism. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Keyword: Socialist) had a communist party which was working to move the nation TOWARDS the victory of communism, such as heard in the anthem. But this contradicts the Marxist idea of a stateless, moneyless society- so had communism fully been achieved, there would have been no communist party. Even then, western propaganda such as in this videogame has distorted the view of the USSR very heavily. One of the myths propagated is that Stalin was one of the most brutal dictators to exist on the planet with a death toll of over 40 million. While this number is easy to disprove, such as debunking the common myth that Holodomor was a genocide, people would still believe that he was a dictator. In reality, people forget that he, just like all the other members of the Politburo, had only one vote, and in fact tried to dismantle the ineffective Politburo one multiple occasions to give more power to the Soviets (Worker's unions), and in turn the people who were part of them. Of course Khrushchev's crusade to paint him as a monster worked well for the west to demonize communists, and most people forgot that Khrushchev and co. killed the last of Stalin's friends to fight for democracy in the Soviet Union- Laverentiy Beria. While Stalin had excesses, such as a lot of the purges which were not necessary (Most needed to happen to stabilize the party), he ultimately saved the USSR from collapse in his years of power, defending it from internal fascist-Ukrainian kulak threats, as well as the fascist threats of Hitler's army in the west. His legacy was wiped by Khrushchev, the real traitor to the Union.
@@ashmoleproductions5407 i mean idk man, this looks pretty similar to how a lot of people are living under capitalism today to me, regardless of the motifs
Are videogames radicalizing YOUR kids to work in COMMUNIST factories??? Would definitely be a buzzfeed article if buzzfeed writers were capable of picking up a controller😅
One of the greatest themes of LBP2, I personally feel like it was the best out of the three. LBP3 felt a little boring, I get that the game was marketed towards kids, but 2 felt way more challenging. It didn’t have the sugar coating of 3.
Agreed. LBP has always been family friendly, but LBP3 seems to aim more squarely at kids, even though many of the LBP fans are adults now. I much prefer LBP2.
I still love lbp3 though, I found it really fun, the visuals really neat, and the characters were fun too! Lbp2 is my favorite, but I still really like 3
I liked two better in comparison to one because it added so much while still giving off that same feel, and I feel as if the third game kind of lost that...
LittleBigPlanet 2 is honestly such a damn creative game, you can’t find anything like this music and theming in other games done so well, the story is good with memorable characters, and it’s overall such a fun game. Not only was LBP3 pretty unmemorable, but it was packed with bugs, most of which still haven’t been fixed. I prefer LBP3’s create mode due to it having the most features, but other than that, LBP2 all the way.
@@AngelPikachuKing I think it was only one bad person that brought everything down too, just like Titanfall. It's a big shame and very sad but they can't take away all the good memories we had and make
@@AngelPikachuKing well if I’m being honest except for playing the story mode online it does not matter all the lbp2 and lbp levels are on lbp3 keeping the servers up is pointless.
So, uh... in case you guys haven't checked (and I know you haven't.), the last update of any sort to the LBP site was like, two years ago, on April 20, 2018. On the forums. How sad.
I can’t even begin to talk about how much i miss this game.. Edit: l’ve now played Sackboy: a big adventure. Meh. 5/10. Also went and replayed LBP1/2. Still 10/10. Media Molecule is God.
And the "welcome to earth" at the beginning is a perfect addition. It's saying "Life sucks! Get used to it", which well fits the overall melancholy theme of the factory.
Yeah… This represents all of the people who have terrible jobs (like a prison guard or something like that) and have nothing, or no one to come back to…
@@CombineWatermelon bruh this soundtrack was for a map that was literally based on brave new world and 1984 which are books that represents the end-it-all be-all phase of capitalism, real communism was never achieved in the real word up to this point but it's still the best and only option if we want the survival and dignity of our species
@@daniel0_o861 ah yes because slavery, atheism, destruction of the family, identity masculine and feminine and the mixing of cultures into slurry is "dignity". No. Communism is death. Please face the wall
@@CombineWatermelon literally all your points of criticism are effects of capitalism (minus atheism I guess, which I don't understand why you put at the same of level of slavery per se), but by your way of writing it seems your indoctrination has been really sedimented, if you wanna get another point of view other than your holy thought bubble really recommend "Capitalism Realism" by Mark Fisher, real short read, but very thought provoking, should take you a lazy Sunday afternoon!
After a whole decade of vibing to this dystopian soundtrack. I can never get enough of how well orchestrated this is. The depressing aura this gives is just absolutely perfect. Truly a masterpiece.
i don't agree actually, yes LBP3 has a fuckton of glitches on PS4 and also an meh story, but the tool they give you are amazing! you should try LBP3 out (on ps3 that is)
One of the best parts of this song is how orchestral and grand it seemingly sounds. Not only does it make for a banger track, but it works well in the context and themes of the area its for. It gives off the feeling of growth and progress, but the key and slight off-tune instrumentation show this growth is not bettering anything; its making it worse. Alternatively, its like a corporation trying to cover up their work with a facade of grandeur. Alongside with the synths and robotic voice in the background, it works perfectly for the factory setting. In general, the whole world was perfect as a foil to LBP's themes of unrestricted imagination and joy in creation by making the player go through an area portraying a monotonous industrial workplace.
As a kid I never noticed how sad the factory of a better tomorrow actually was. Maybe because of german censorship too but as a little kid I was just having tons of fun with my sister trying to get as many sackbots for ourselves as we could. This soundtrack makes me wanna cry, not really because of nostalgia but because I feel bad for Clive :(( I know it's dumb but it's true
@@godomoths242 im not sure if they changed anything at all ! but in my memories the factory was always pretty cheery, with only clive looking really sad. And now looking at it, it is a lot gloomier
@@ittybittykibibyte yeah im pretty sure the game was uncensored. I guess all the bright colours and music overshadowed the implications of the factory lol
This song encapsulates the characters that inhabit the area perfectly. The song is hopeful; at the same time at parts.. it feels overwhelming. Clive is a hardworking person who has everything he loves taken away from him. His factory, home, and other. Yet Sackboy most of lb2’s cast doesn’t see the issue in it and blindly push forward with hope and determination. The brass heavy and timpani (I think) add to the stress Clive is feeling, yet adds to the uncanny optimism around him. Somehow though- it fits perfectly inside with the levels inside the game with a Early Soviet-esk tune and having- Blah blah blah Good song.
LittleBigPlanet2 has to be my favourite game out of the series, Lbp3 is... alright. But for me LBP2 just has that spark I suppose that makes you want to play it! The Factory Of A Better Tomorrow has always been my fave, I mean you just gotta love Clive.
I feel like most of the sounds are explained as like sounds of machinery and screens, and then the jazz and journalfilm are just like the radios laying around to keep your mood up, also i like how it slowly steps up in this video because it feels like it’s just you at work and then you start to just realize where you are and you can just hear everything at the end and your going insane because of how many things you have to do.
I never noticed how this song sounds. Its like upbeat melancholy, and so surreal. It definitely gives off the feeling of working endlessly in a factory, with the only thing keeping you sane are your fellow coworkers and “uplifting” posters. Its kinda depressing? But its hella catchy so..
@@neoxpro12 100% agree. I honestly can’t believe that there are people who haven’t gotten to play lbp. I know not everyone grew up with this game, but it’s insane to how much potential this game opened up to me. It really touched the right side of my brain and said: wake up. No one will understand how much this game means to our childhoods
Listening to this is such an experience. At the same time, I can faintly remember some notes and tid bits of music, but at the same time this feels all completely new. It honestly discomforts me in a weird way
This song reminds me of early LittleBigPlanet 2 were me and my cousins would play together. Now they don't even touch lbp3 because of its horrible online gameplay.
Not_TheLegend27 I do like makeup by some more like, techy things in that game but it’s just not the same as 1 or 2 they relied too much on new mechanics and not actual creativity
I'm so glad that Clive and the others from lbp2 and 1 came to LBP3 The Journey Home. Not all of them on LBP1. Also this music is better than the Journey Home One. I MISS LBP2!!!! Good thing we get a new life... with new people... The Negativitron is the Most Powerful one as Newton. My favourite part on LBP2 is The Factory Of A Better Tomorrow. LBP3 is Showing is the Return of the hideout, the labatory if that's how u spell it, Clive's Factory, A Asylum, Avalonia, and the Cosmos. Also brings returns to the Gardens, the wedding and the islands. We Love Sackboy, Oddsock, Toggle and Swoop. And we love our Craftworld Friends... We will always love Little Big Planet... also the bad guys can make like a tree and get out of here and start a new Past...
all i can think of when i hear this song is some dystopian polluted grey-skyed metropolis with smoke coming out of everywhere where people work endlessly. oh wait im thinking about real life.
This song and the overall theme of The Factory of a Better Tomorrow has inspired me to make some standalone dystopian story of this being some super successful megacorporation a lot like aperture science but no quirks to it, set in a post apocalyptic world like fallout sort of.
This song inspired me a lot to create a huge factory in the world of my novels! "Playground Park" an old abandoned amusement park transformed into a soviet dark factory who experiments with human hearts and souls, putting into robots to create endless workers and eternal machines that will make toys and weapons for the war..
Back when I was a little boy, I loved LBP2. I eventually tried the first game and didn't like it as much, but LBP3 is a dream come true for me as much as 2. Whenever I was in a bad mood, I would play one of the horrible levels I made where you're on a ship and sharks are destroying it. It was really satisfying for me. But what I want to say is that LittleBigPlanet 2 is one of the pillars of my happiness. I wish I could play more than my limits now. If I can't cry on the outside, I'll cry on the inside.
"If I can't cry on the outside, I'll cry on the inside." Nice quote!! it has actually made my day, not going to lie. Also yea lbp2 makes me really happy as well. I remember my Dad got it and he started trying it out, and then I asked him if I could try it (in a not so friendly way XD) so he said no. But after a little while more he let me play with him and LBP2 became my favorite game afterwards. I also remember he would always use the carpeted skin. And I would just be the regular brown sackboy skin because I didn't care for style all that much.... It was so much fun playing with him because it was actually one of the only ways we could both enjoy something together.... Until one day my dad unexpectedly passed away right infront of my eyes in real life. We didn't know what was wrong and it makes me want to cry "WHY??" It was a couple years ago that he did pass away but now I'm 16 and I'm just reflecting on those good times with him.... *sigh* Life changes.... Spend time with who is important in your life NOW. So you can remember those good memories + nostalgia like I did :)
"Nobody ever calls. Let's keep going..." "... Seriously. It's been years." "I don't even remember the number anymore. Come on, I'm getting depressed just thinking about it."
Maybe I'm stupid, but I feel like this song represents hope (of a better tomorrow), and it's not as oppressive as some other comments say. At first, the song IS repressive, dull, and depressing. But as time goes on, more instruments are added, making the song more lively. When the jazz ensemble comes in, the song becomes very energetic, and while it's the same beat, same oppressive synth, and the ai voice is still giving orders to work and such, there is a feeling of hope given by the exciting jazz and piano. While times haven't changed, they give hope that tomorrow will be different. When the song ends, the dull beat and voice are gone, and only those exciting instruments representing hope remain, representing that maybe that future hoped for was reached, or at least the work for the day was done, and there's a sense of pride for the work achieved, as well as some tiredness represented by there only being a few instruments that aren't very bombastic. Maybe the hope is naive, as the beat or song pattern (whatever it's called lmao) is still the same in the end, but it's all still very hopeful. Just a thought, maybe wrong as I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Well, the factory of a better tomorrow is based on the soviet union and its factories during the cold war, a period of time were the humanity was triying to see a hopeful future while their present was at the edge of destruction. Endless work, lack of simpaty and independency, the revolution of the machines taking apart the work of the man, delusional dreams of an utopic future and an opresive sistem, is what the factory of a better tomorrow and the progress emporium (the counterpart of the factory, based on the capitalism and united states during the cold war) represents, a false hope, broken dreams and the brutality of the production system. Even if the song sounds very hopeful and excited, its just a factory of broken Dreams At least, Clive and the factory got a good ending in little big planet 3, there the place is happier and even positive, the music from the New factory reflects this too But I liked your comment, its a very interesting way to see the song, I allways saw it like a distopic world controled by machines but it can be hopeful too!
i believe one comment states that all of the instruments that get added are all slightly out of tune of each other subtly hinting that more and more progress is not getting anywhere good; i'd quote what it said directly but i cant find it blehhhhhhhhhhh
i really miss LBP2, such an amazing game with so many memories, honestly not even lying when i say it might be one of my favorite games of all time, and definitely my favorite PS3 game, along with PvZ Garden Warfare. may LBP2 live on forever in our hearts.
Do yall remember that read fist that you can put the fingers up to go to the next room (horrible at describing I'm so sorry) and when you put the middle finger up, something comes down to cover the middle finger?
The song school fits. A feeling of hollowness, yet some sort of being, just a bundle of thoughtless drones being sheparded into a big building for the day.
Little big planet is a world created of the imagination of people, the factory of a better tomorrow was made of the soviet and comunism ideas from the cold war, all the worlds being related to tecnology reflects how the human only thinks in the new tecnologies, thats all we are imaginating, but there are still some magical and fantasy pictures, like the dreams that made the eve asylum. Its not bad thinking on machines, but we need to relax a bit
May the Little Big Planet servers rest well, and may the media left behind by all the people whom loved the game as much as us inspire more people to be creative and enjoy the series as much as we all have. Rest in peace little big planet. We all loved you, and I'm sure more will too, with more time.
They should just make a game that gives you all the materials to make things and allow online play. No story mode whatsoever, just create and play others stuff. You could also get more decorations and stuff from playing certain amounts of levels or creating more levels
What i like is how there is a jazz band playing in the background at one point but parts are literally impossible to hear over all the chaotic noise and dissonance surronding sure the piano and saxophone come through but hearing the drums bassline and trumpet are impossible to hear unless you issolate the tracks thats not a mistake its very much intetional the factory has completly taking over rendering the original melody inaudible in fact if you issolate the melody youll notice there is actually a part not used in any of the main mixes
In hindsight, this game's OST had no right to slap so damn hard. Though I can safely say I despised guiding those sackbots as a kid. Absolutely hated it
You dont need to apologize whenever you are writing english or speaking it. Im German and I write english as best as I can and hope that somebody understand what I mean.
I love how well this one builds. It also reminds me a lot of Grant Kirkhope's work on Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie in that there's a main catchy melody that's put through a variety of instruments and moods as you explore a world. Great stuff!
It still creeps me out it starts off really sad but once that creppy jazz band starts playing its like downright dreadful sounding like something bad is defenitly happening and these robots are not doing any good
