Episode 11
Little Nemo the Dream Master for the NES is one of the great titles developed by Capcom! It's based on the movie, "Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland" and features gameplay similar to the later Kirby games.
In this video we'll learn:
* How the game compares to the movie and comic strip that it's based on!
* The location of EVERY key!
* How to use ALL of the game's animal forms!
* Where to find TONS of secret 1-UPs!
* EASY ways to defeat all of the game's evil Nightmare bosses!
* AND MORE!
BONUS SECRET - Level Select Code: I didn't include the game's level select code in the video this time, so I'm listing it here. At the title screen press UP, SELECT, LEFT, RIGHT, A, A, B. If you did it correctly a "Dream Select" option will appear. Press "A" one time for each level you want to skip. For example, if you want to play Level 6, press the button 5 times.
This game has infinite continues, so while this is technically a cheat code, it can also be used to return to where you left off if you want to take a break from the game and turn off your Nintendo.
Thanks for watching!

UCBVG, excellent work as always. I would also like to mention to everyone here that a sequel to the comic book was published in 2014. The main character meets all of the original inhabitants of Slumberland, who keep mistaking him for the original Nemo(his full name is James Nemo Summerton). The title is Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland, if anyone's interested enough to look it up.

Bro, this game brought me back a lot of good memories as a kid. The game is why I never stopped dreaming of anything....this included of what science and technological is possible. This was one of the best of my childhood where I couldn't stop playing it and watching the cartoon. That was when publishers really cared about gamers. Thanks again!

The funny part was that the movie was a US/Japan co-production that was released in Japan in 1989, but not the US. The game came out in 1990 in both countries, but the movie didn't reach the US until 1992, so we all thought the movie was based on the game, not the other way around.

Good stuff. I also would like to point out that in the House of Toys level, there is actually a ninth key a little past the exit door. So the way the level is designed, it's basically impossible to reach the end without having enough keys. Otherwise, it would be a softlock.

I'm really enjoying your UCBVG series. I'm watching 1 every day or two, looking at all the games I grew up with and how much simpler they seem when someone with all the information plays. Little Nemo is one I definitely beat when I was younger but it took a LONG time. A Boy and his Blob is one I never got close to beating so watching you do that was entertaining. Pretty good series. Keep making them and I'll keep watching and upvoting them.

A school friend had this one and I really liked playing it back then, but never got very far. I guess I love the concept of drugging animals with "candy" and then stealing their skin. It's like a serial-killer development simulator. I loved your jokes about that during the intro. Really funny stuff. I revisited this one a few times over the years, and always got annoyed about halfway through despite enjoying the early stages. It has a few quirks that could have been smoothed out, but thanks to this handy dandy guide, they weren't as annoying as they had been when I played this one again earlier. I didn't know Nintendo had an actual policy against anime style in those days. Man, if they embraced that style, I think my NES game library would have been at least twice the size. I mean, that Rockman Famicom art is so good, especially compared to the US stuff. It's amazing the series got past the first game with that awful box art.

I always beat this game in hornet form rather than using the scepter. Instead of transforming out of the hornet form to switch to the mouse at the end to climb the final cliff, I fly from the platform where the mouse is, and (using a turbo controller), I mash the A button to fly to the top. From there, you can easily navigate through the remaining platforming sections to the final boss, and then fly up and shoot him in the face, taking care to shoot those red blobs he often spits out as they home in. It's a lot of fun that way. I put a video of that technique on my channel recently. You should give it a try sometime. It turns the final boss fight into something of a shooter.

I'm pretty sure that Nemo's black / purple hair swap when he is on / off the animals is due to sprite color palette limitations on the NES 8-bit hardware. Sprites are the elements of the game that move in the foreground, independent from the background. When he is his own separate sprite, it's no problem to render the additional color of purple for his hair but once he mounts one of the animals, the game switches his hair to black. Black is already a color found in both the palettes of his separate sprite as well as the animal's separate sprite. In an effort to preserve the original color of the animal, which is not also used in Nemo's separate sprite, the developers no doubt intentionally programmed the code to display Nemo's hair as black when drawing the all new combined sprite of him mounted on the animal! Nice find that I never noticed, nor understood at eight years old when I first played the game upon its release! I've recently discovered your work and have really been enjoying it, thanks! I've also stumbled upon other creators who describe the technical limitations of the computers and home gaming consoles I grew up with, hence my thoughts on the color swap. Please keep up the good work!

A good trick! I like to use it to take a break, and come back to the level where you left off!

I’ve played this game since it came out and I never knew this code existed. I’ve been beating this game the hard way for about 30 years. Now I can finally just skip to nightmare land the best levels in the game, with the best music.

I loved this code to skip the train or the sky ruins. I hated those levels, so it was nice not to have to play them every single time.

Ever think of doing penultimate guides where you just give a quick background, an overview of controls, things people might miss, power ups, instead of a full walkthrough to help people dive into some games that could could use manuals or FAQs?

One of my favorite NES games, hands down. I love the music, the level design, and just the overall feel to it. I am not great at this one to be honest, but it's just a great time regardless :) Ever consider doing one of these playthroughs on the game Totally Rad? That's been another one of my all time favorites, and it's a pretty quick one. Loving your videos, by the way!
