Thank you Chris. Unfortunately this may be the only time anyone will see these things. We appreciate all of the work that you do on behalf of preventing our history from being destroyed.
It definitely seemed like they didn’t handle several of the items very carefully. Especially knowing the box had rusted through and the shape the painting was in on top of the box. Thank you for sharing the video. Very interesting to see what was inside the box.
Too many today don't realize that prior to the War between the States, we were a collection of States loosely linked together by the Constitution. After the War, we truly became a Nation. The concept and controversy of loyalty to one's State versus loyalty to the country as a whole, was forever changed after the War, but prior to the War, that citizens were divided considering loyalty to their State vs Federal . Many today like to call the Confederates Traitors, because they rebelled, and made a preemptive strike against the Federal Authority, they deemed a threat not only to Slavery, but to the Rights of the State to chart its own course. There were Northerners that went South and Southerners that went North. The issue of Slavery divided the country. Would Slavery have ended under Lincoln's Administration had the South not seceded? Maybe or maybe not. The Secession however, did force Lincoln's hand, and ultimately ended the institution in December of 1865 with the ratification of the 13th Amendment. We're the Confederates Traitors? That's our 21st Century Value Judgement coming through. By that measure, so were the singers of the Declaration of Independence Traitors. They rebelled against the British Crown, who was the lawful authority at the time. My point is it's wrong to place our current values over theirs. They believed in a cause and over 700,000 Americans on both sides, bled the ground red across battlefields to end an institution that was already on its last legs, to end the issue. Having ancestors that fought on both sides of the conflict, and studying this period of our history, the question of Treason, becomes more opaque. When I look at our over bloated Federal Bureaucratic mess we currently have, a mess that started after 1865, I have to wonder who really won the Civil War? Slavery needed to end, but the War started the Big Government problems threatening our Freedoms and Liberties right now.
It's ironic how we change. I realized as a teen the importance of saving newspaper reports of important events. I have the ones I collected in a big box where they aren't folded. The recent 2024 assassination attempt is the first time I didn't even think of seeking out a paper. In fact, I would have had to make 140 mile round trip to get an actual newspaper. Makes you wonder if all our history may eventually be wiped clean by a cyber attack.
Daytona Beach community College did a time capsule in 1974-75...the automotive department sponsored it with the 8' aluminum street lite post being donated by city the DBBC machine shop turning the 'o' ring plug. After several attempts the capsule held nitrogen gas. Can't remember if it was a50 year pr 100 year..but it's buried downtown by the city hall flag pole.
I feel like they were very rough and to quick to just start brushing and shaking things. Then again I am no expert but I have a box of my family's history from the revolutionary war to the war between the states and I am more careful with it, than they are. I am not saying they are wrong I was just cringing when he took that battle flag and just started dustin it. Thank you so much for the content my favorite channel for sure.
Omg I wanted to yell STOP, slowly back away from the box, Sir. And replace him with a more gentle handed person. Watching him just rushing through it all was giving me anxiety 😮
I wish there would have been coins or medals! I am fortunate enough to have a Confederate Cross of Honor, I’m not even sure where it came from, it was passed on to me from my Grandfather! Thanks for the video!!!
I have that same Confederate flag......the pole is actually a nail (sorry, a pin.) to me it looks like a modern nail like to hang a picture....but its actually a pin from that era late 1800's. I also had a lock of hair weaved into a bracelet a woman wore of her husbands hair while he was away at war. 2 Mourning medals and some papers from the Daughters of the confederacy. That is where the flag came from. My flag is in better condition....it's paper.
My lord, I’m appalled at the way this Man In Charge charges through the contents of the box like a bull in a china shop. What kind of historians drill through an artifact with the equivalent of a sledgehammer and then flip and flop the antiquities around with tweezers. My lord. What foolishness.
What a great historical find! Thanks for sharing this video. It was exciting to see them open the box and remove each item. On the $50 note, Jefferson Davis is clearly seen. Apparently, Chicken & Waffles have been around for a long time💖
This is the most incredible viewing of the recovery...please do the opening of the envelopes, when possible. It's a piece of the Heart and Soul of our beloved South. Thank you.
