I wasn't aware of this blue zones concept, so thanks for sharing, quite interesting. Now I myself quit drinking alcohol on a regular basis a while ago, but I have to say for having lived in Italy a couple of years, overall alcohol consumption is very moderate, not at all like in Northern European countries for example. Their high consumption of other antioxidant rich foods probably offsets some of the impact of alcohol. Also I was amazed by how often people I barely knew would invite me home for lunch or dinner and be genuinely interested in just exchanging life stories. I did think a lot of the (mostly older) catholics were a bit hypocritical in that they often criticised others, which I thought wasn't a very Christian thing to do, but I guess that really is a human trait! For me spiritual systems mainly provide a context to life on Earth and give meaning to it (and in the best case also practical means to live better such as meditative prayer or mindfulness, yoga, qi gong, all kinds of alternative healing that make people feel better, etc). But from what I've seen, atheist or agnostic people derive similar benefits from assigning meaning and purpose themselves, based on their own understanding and experience (not just intellectually!). Having chosen values and priorities as well as stated and firm goals and consciously pursue these gives drive, energy and motivation. I've also read some texts from a spiritual teacher who argues that without fail non-religious people who are able to genuinely engage with artistic endeavours (music, painting, woodwork or sculpture, well there's plenty of options I guess) also derive similar benefits, as well as those who have a regular contact with nature and are able feel a connection of awe and inspiration with it. I guess stargazing falls under this category :) Cheers!

Dan Beutners work on blue zones is really interesting. I enjoyed the episode where he was on Rich Rolls podcast! Good video btw! I dont agree that somethings significance is detetermined by its sice but I get what you mean at the end. Its really important to put things in perspektive.

Cool, ive been into bluezones for a while. Just so you know, alcohol (in low doses) isnt "toxic" any more than exercise is. Look into the concept of hormesis, moderate amounts of alcohol acts as a minor stressor (what doesnt kill me makes me stronger). I still recommend you check longecity.org Jerome. Calorie restriction, bean/fermentable fiber consumption, lots of polyphenols and phytonutrients, enough moderate exercise are my picks. Maybe you don't like wine, but you should start drinking tea (herbal and green), that's another common factor in bluezones.

I would probably hate tea more than wine personally but that doesn't influence my recommendation on not drinking it. I don't like the taste of kale that much either, but I definitely eat it. So my voice against alcohol is not from not liking the taste of it haha.

I'm really interested in carbon60 a science breakthrough study in 2016 shows it increases rats lifespans by 95% and it's guessed that humans could live to 200 to possibly 1000 years on Carbon60.

StarKiller recent research shows C60oo may increase tumors so scratch that plan for now.

ElJimmie bet the study was done on the average American diet. As long as one dose intermittent fasting nutritional ketosis, the person or rat should be fine :/
