LIVE COURT CAM: MA v. #KarenRead - DAY 27 - Defense witnesses will be proffering testimony outside the jury’s presence. Expected to testify are Dr. Marie Russell, who will opine the scratches on John O’Keefe’s arm are the result of a canine attack. Also on the defense witness list is Chris Van Ee, expert in biomedical and mechanical engineering, Daniel Wolfe, Accident Reconstructionist, and Andrew Rentschler, an expert in kinematics and biomechanics.
Read is accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, whose body was found in the snow outside of another Boston officer’s home in Canton, Massachusetts.

Because this was just a voir dire examination of the proposed expert, the judge is allowed to question the witness. The jury is not present for this questioning.

We are SHOOK here in Canton. Many of us knew law enforcement is corrupt but I’m sure many didn’t realize how deep it goes, especially in small towns like ours. It goes all the way up the chain apparently, with this judge being the prime example!

I commend the defense for staying calm and professional despite the incredible challenge the judge has put them through. You can hear in her voice how the defense irritates her. Not sure what she’s actually doing there. Her biases are so apparent, it’s embarrassing.

@@juliereiger500 Rules for thee, as apparently the Prosecution isn't obligated to turn over discovery either. They had a voir dire a few days ago because they tried to sneak in testimony about whether or not it was possible for the Tail Light to have been broken when she backed up into another car. When asked why they didn't turn over any reports about this new testimony the answer was "In hindsight, we should have." They weren't acting in some mistaken belief that they weren't obligated to turn it over, or that they thought they did but it got lost in bureaucracy or anything like that. The prosecution has adopted a strategy of asking for forgiveness instead of permission.

If you left your truck unlocked and it got stolen, would you first think; did I lock it? Or instantly blame your spouse? Up until today i was patient with the judge and thought people were unjust with her. To day i got pissed. I believe that the way she talked to and about the medical doctor was very rude and her questions to the reconstruction experts were unhinged. It was overall painful to watch.

I'll give you that but I've seen her bias for a while now. She's so on the prosecutions side and possibly corrupt. With seeing how corrupt these law enforcement are it is possible she is as well. Judges are not God and are capable of being corrupt too.

I hope John’s brother and family think it’s suspicious that the commonwealth is so against the defense witnesses. Funny how Lally was trying to downplay training that the doctor did when she was working for a police department 30 years ago but yet he had a current trooper who’s probably half the age that the doctor is and he had no idea what the hell he was talking about 😂

OH MY WORD! "Allegidly" Aunt Bev vacations with the Alberts! Also, her brother is a lawyer and represented Chris Albert (the home owners brother and father of Colin) when he killed someone in a hit and run accident (he was drunk "Allegidly" as he ran from the scene and turned himself in 30 hours later) and the judges brother got him only 10 months in jail on the case. The defense asked her to recuse herself from this trial before it started and she declined removing herself !!!

Yep after seeing all this corruption I hope it's not gotten to the jury, just out of the sake of justice. I don't know any of these people but I can't stand seeing people done wrong over corrupted people in positions of power. Everything about this case screams corruption and possibly law enforcement themselves needing to be prosecuted for murder and corruption. This judge is corrupt and /or just definitely wants to protect the prosecution.

Exactly!! I showed the picture of JO’s arm to my husband today and he knows absolutely nothing about this case. I asked him “what does this look like to you?” He said it looks like bite marks and scratches . I said “nope” ( which is not my actual opinion) they are from the taillight of an suv that hit this person. He says “No way. That is from an animal. Probably a dog. I believe the jury will see this too.

Imagine a judge asking a total professional with no skin in the game asked him specifically what he was asked to do... duh, an accident reconstruction and who asked him to do it. Uh... why couldn't the defense have asked him? THE FBI asked. Let's see her get in a tussle with the FBI over these witnesses! How about the cop who was given info by the Commonwealth and was told to prove the theory by the Commonwealth that the defendant ran over the victim. This is nuts.

MsMarple. This is a hearing to determine whether these witnesses can testify in front of the jury for the defences case. We do t know what Johns injuries are in detail as the prosecution has not called the ME to testify. Soooo much reasonable doubt in this case, infact most experts cannot believe this case got to trail and the FBI is investigating the entire investigation. It’s bad!

There is SO much reasonable doubt in the “evidence” laid out (not to mention a litany of questionable conduct from Alberts and others), that as a jury member I would probably go with Not Guilty.

Not surprisingly, a more reputable source than the rather unqualified “expert” from the State Police yesterday that left many of us begging for an independent qualified group’s assessment. The thing that I’ve found the most troubling from Day 1 is that the bodily injury to JO appears inconsistent with a vehicle strike, and I’ve since heard FBI concurs. I could now add to that several parts of the evidence at the scene to my list of troubling facts.

118:56 Am I hearing right? The judge and Mr Lally are discussing what part of Dr Russel's tstimony (if ANY) THEY want to be heard? REALLY? SERIOUSY? Right out in the open, Judge? You can take Rule 14 and SHOVE IT. Is anybody going to ask why that house wasn't searched--why was it cleaned up, the basement floor was torn up and redone, the house was sold for $50K less than value, and poor beloved family pet Chloe was destroyed? All Chloe did was try to protect her family from harm.She didn't deserve to die for that. Did they hold her in their arms as the needle went in? All this to protect a hot-headed punk who beat up an older cop, a friend of the famiiy, a guest in their house? And then they left him to die in the snow, conveniently blaming the handy scapegoat, Karen Read? . Why wasn't that house searched? The fix was in from the start.

Bottom line each side gets to pick their own experts . It’s not the defenses fault that Lally choose a random trooper with 3 weeks of online training and “ certification “ . He has the full wealth of the state behind him, he could’ve picked anyone ! Defense has actually experts and Lally and Aunt Bev don’t like that . Too bad, Karen is allowed to put on a defense rather they like it or not ! They must be really out of it if they thought Jackson and the defense were just gonna roll over and let sham evidence stand and not speak up !
