Hey! I have family in California, and they tell me all the time about the cost of living. It's getting crazy. I live a simple life here in Brazil, but I’m happy. My cost of living has increased since this video was made, now around $2,000 to $2,500, mainly because I didn't have health care at the time and I moved to a nicer, more modern apartment. Keep in mind, the monthly cost I mentioned is for two people, both my girl and me. It's still very affordable, especially if you're coming with dollars or earning in dollars. I don't earn dollars, so it's not as cheap for me working on Brazilian wages, but I don't mind paying a little more for quality and comfort. Thanks for the support !

I am from Fortaleza born and raised, i actually like living here, some friends and family may differ in opinion, but as you said, if you have a decent income, know how things roll here and be smart and speak portuguese let's not forget that, you can have a excellent life here, people are always kind and warm and actually care for you, i know this because i lived 1 year in Sweden and boy it came to a point i couldn't live there anymore, the homesick was too much, and i also dislike too much cold, but Ceará is too hot that i also don't like, i like the weather between 64 and 71 F, Fortaleza is too hot for my taste, but this problem i fixed with some AC's around my apartment, i like to go to Guaramiránga to remember that cold exists sometimes lol, people that love beach will think this is paradise, last year some friends from the US(from Texas to be more exact) come to spend their vacation in my cousin house, we take them to Jeri, they were wonderstruck(não sei como traduzir maravilhados kkk) with everything in that village, i was giggling all the time seeing their reactions, we had a grand time, cheers.

Medellin is getting expensive, granted you’ll save with a fruver and a decent meat market . But if your drink and eat out a lot at better places , that’ll add up quick. Seeing cocktails on the menu in Medellin for 35-50k $9-12. They’ve adapted to gringo standards here and some places really stretch it. Brazil is expensive in tourist areas but this may be the ticket.

I only go to Rio and this prices are SO cheap. It's amazing. I go every year for a month.
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 9 месяцев назад
Keep in mind, this reflects my specific lifestyle. For example, my rent is at the price that mentioned because I rent long term. Finding $3 lunches is quite common. Burger King and McDonald's are roughly a dollar more expensive here than in the States. However, even then, my girl finds coupons all the time, lol. My phone bill is $8 a month, which gets me 20GB of data and access to all social media platforms for free. The trips that I mentioned, that cost $200 USD, I found a similar one in Rio to Búzios. You just have to know where to look. There are a lot of deals on the website Barato Coletivo! Nevertheless, it's about 25% cheaper here in Fortaleza than Rio, and it's about 50% less busy here too. Thanks for your comment!

@BillyGringoTv What's the nightlife like and how safe is it? Yea, long leases are always cheaper. In spain you can get a 1 bedroom for 350 a month in the south or even barcelina 800 or 900 for a 2 bedroom in a good area. Food here is as cheap as south america. What made you choose that city?
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 9 месяцев назад
@choco.es.travel Compared to Rio, Fortaleza's nightlife is less active, but it offers plenty of options. It's also generally safer. Fortaleza isn't heavily focused on international tourism, which can be a plus for an authentic Brazilian experience. You'll find more restaurants, bars, and lounges here, with some clubs reopening. There's no shortage of things to do in Fortaleza!

Phenomenal work with this! Thank you! So, would you say that a steady $2,000 per month income, for a 40 year old single guy, moving to Brazil is good enough to live a good or great life? My primary language is Spanish, second English. Fluent 100% in both. Would love to learn Portuguese, too!
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 2 месяца назад
Thank you for the support. Earning $2,000 per month would be quite good, but it depends on your lifestyle. My partner and I currently spend around $2,000 a month, up from $1,500 previously, but we usually bring in about 5k. Keep in mind, we're fluent in Portuguese and have been living here for many years. Basically, half of our budget will go towards housing, covering rent and utilities such as condo fees, water, gas, trash, electricity, and internet. Health insurance will run you about $160 - $200 monthly, but it's the best coverage available. With $2,000, you can live comfortably, but $2,500 is the sweet spot. If you'd like further help regarding living in Brazil, feel free to send me an email with your questions so I can make a customized consultation for you. You can reach me at billygringotv@gmail.com. I charge $100 for 45 minutes, but it'll be a very valuable investment. Thanks again.

@@BillyGringo This is awesome, thanks again. I rake in closer to $4,500 steady per month, retired, but always try to live on about 50% of that, so I was wondering how $2,000 would do in Brazil. I've been living in Thailand now for 14 months and loving it, but looking to try something new soon. I rarely drink or party. More of a foodie, love to eat out and cook and sightsee. Bar maybe twice per week for socializing and playing pool, mainly. Full coverage health insurance from the US Army (retired), so don't need local coverage anywhere, typically. Thanks again!!!

Considering that cost of living it is cheaper than that in Columbia. Do need a safe living environment due to the petty crimes.
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 9 месяцев назад
Absolutely, I understand your point. Actually, Colombia is cheaper than Fortaleza by around 20-25%. But like I stated in one of my videos, it’s adaptable. However, beyond just the cost of living, I've found that Colombia has a different dynamic when it comes to safety and crime. While statistics may suggest Fortaleza is more dangerous, it's important to note that the nature of crime can vary significantly. In Fortaleza, I've felt that there are fewer petty crimes, especially in tourist areas and the better parts of town. The issues are often concentrated in the slums rather than affecting the overall safety of the city. It's a different kind of crime environment compared to Colombia, where crime can sometimes be more organized or 'professional' in nature. Particularly, Medellin.

@BillyGringo

Hey, thanks for watching. I calculate the expenses to dollars for the viewers but I make a living in Brazil and have been doing so for the last 18 years. I have never made dollars while living here, it’s alway been in reais. It definitely hasn’t been easy, but what helps us, is that there are two of us. We are a team. It’s about consistency, working smart instead of working hard. Not settling for minimum wage or working for someone else. Sacrifices, not getting comfortable, taking risks and believing in yourself.

I'm an American Citizen already in Brazil. I will stay in Brazil past April 10,2024 until about May 15. I wish to extend my stay past the initial 90 days. Question is: When does the Visa start counting my new 90 day period (assuming I'm approved). Will the new 90-day period begin at the end of my initial 90 day period...or... will my new 90 days start the day I am approved? I'd like to do 90 days, not leave the country, and start a new 90 days with the new eVisa I will ideally acquire. Advise? Experience with this? PS: With all due respect, the Brazilian government website is trash, at best. It is always out of service or out of date. That is why I am asking you kind folks. Thanks.
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo 3 месяца назад
To extend your stay in Brazil beyond the initial 90 days, you would need to apply for a visa extension before your current visa expires. It's crucial to book an appointment with the Brazilian Federal Police Office for this process. The extension, if granted, begins from the end of your current visa period, not the date of approval. This means you can indeed do 90 days, apply for an extension, and assuming it's approved, start a new 90-day period right after your initial visa period ends. Documents required for the visa extension include a valid passport, a filled online application form, a signed application protocol, a passport photo, proof of income, a round-trip ticket, a payment receipt for the visa fees, and the appointment bar code generated online. Please note, you should apply for the extension at least two weeks before your visa expires but not more than one month before the deadline. After the extension, there's a rule that you can only return to Brazil as a tourist 6 months after the extension period is over. For the most accurate and detailed information, it's advised to check the official Brazilian eVisa site (brazil.vfsevisa.com/index.html)

Slowly working your way up. I started offloading and loading sound systems at events, then became a sound technician, then a Dj and from there a promoter. Hard to be there without knowing the language?
@BillyGringo
@BillyGringo Месяц назад
Yes, it's very hard. Not many people speak English in this part of Brazil. There are a lot of videos on RU-vid teaching Portuguese. If you practice for 30 minutes a day and listen to Brazilian music, every day to get familiar with hearing Portuguese, you can get a good grasp of it in 3 to 6 months. You could also try using language learning apps like Duolingo or Babbel, which can help with vocabulary and grammar. Joining language exchange communities or finding a language partner can also provide real-life practice. Watching Brazilian movies and TV shows with subtitles can improve your understanding of conversational Portuguese. You have to try to immerse yourself in the language as much as possible by labeling household items in Portuguese and thinking in the language throughout the day.
