I think many of people are kind of embarrassed when meeting strangers or telling relatives about living in or around Pattaya. But there are some very nice places around Pattaya that aren't like living in a blender on high speed like it is in Pattaya.
Naklua
Naklua, situated north of Pattaya, is still very much the old fishing village, with traditional wooden houses and of minor touristic significance except for its famous weekend market.
Now there are some nice hotels and guest houses that can be found there.
What many tourists wrongly denote as Naklua, is actually just the northern part of Pattaya along Pattaya-Naklua Road (northern extension of Pattaya 2nd road, north of the Dolphin Roundabout), which actually merges with Naklua.
Jomtien
Most tourist brochures describe Jomtien - with its six-kilometer-long stretch of sandy beach, as a kind of Pattaya's little brother, with a bit less of everything that might be "over-the-top" in Pattaya: less nightlife, less noise, less traffic etc. Although Jomtien Beach, which has become popular especially with family vacationers and Thai tourists from Bangkok, doesn't really resemble what tourists might expect from a tropical beach, Jomtien offers a much more relaxed environment for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying various beach activities, than Pattaya's over crowded main beach. The nightlife at Jomtien is much more relaxed and laid-back.

I took monthly trips to pattaya twice a year. after a few times I learned the ropes. came back and lived there for 8 years. never rode a motor bike, just baht busses, its safer. rented a room in pattaya for 500 a month. long term. played golf out of krongborg bar. plenty of good advice there. off first road i/2 block. east of small hotel. ask around. you can order sprite in a bar. too many people think they can get drunk and make an ass of themselves... nobody likes a drunk. have fun though.

Good video JC. You and I met in Chiang Mai, February 2013. I moved to Thailand in August 2013. Ended up living in Naklua. Same neighborhood you show on this video. Cheap and easy to get around on the Songtows in Naklua, Pattaya and Jomtien. 10 baht each trip. Nice condos available for 15,000 baht or so, with ocean/island views. Quiet. Good restaurants, shopping malls on par with U.S. Very nice and pretty ladies here. Most just normal nice people. Sex workers too of course, but most, just everyday ladies, working hard, and looking to meet a nice guy. Just like everywhere in the world. Living here much different than just being a two week tourist. With the drop in the Russian ruble, less Russians now, more Chinese. Just an update for your viewers, of which I was one.

Prices quoted here are a little high according to my experience. There are many monthly rentals in Jomtien, mostly on the soi to the south end. Great vid JC, I've been living in Jomtien since the first of May, and I really like it here. We were looking at Hua Hin too, but my wife wants to work, and there wasn't much going on there for her. She's got a good job here. I always enjoy your vids.

I was in the Pattaya area several times a few years back. I never felt threatened and was out all hours of the night. I also never got so drunk I didn't know what I was doing or where I was at. There was a great Fishing Pond in Jomtiem Beach. It was catch and release and the cat fish were big!!! Took 5 Bar girls there and we had a grand ol time. I never got a monthly room there as I usually only stayed for about 2 weeks then it was time to go. I did enjoy my time there. Thanks JC of what you do

Great video JC. I was out in Oct 2012 and stayed with friends in Khaotalo ( Pattaya East side). Condo rents are cheaper there yet only a 10 minute bike ride to the city centre. Maybe you could do a vid of that area. Many ex pats in Khaotalo and not so crazy. I'm hoping to retire out there in 4 years time myself and just love the place. Yeah, Pattaya has its downsides like anywhere but far far more upsides going for it. Once again, very well done and thanks for the vid.

I really enjoy your videos. I have been to several parts of Thailand, but my favorite city still has to be Pattaya. It's funny how my friends have never heard of Pattaya (they all heard of Bangkok). I tell them it's a city that is rapidly becoming one of the premiere beach destinations in the world. I enjoy the tourist and beach ambiance above all, and of course the night life too.

Thanks for the exact figure. Yes it fluctuates a lot but as a general rule to make it easy rounding to 30 Baht to a Dollar or 33 Dollars to 1000 Baht makes it easy on the fly to calculate. And unless you are talking large sums of money it will give you an idea of the cost close enough.

My earlier comments disappear, so I will write again before I lost another post. First, great video and great job on your Thai. You are trying and helping many other think of coming out here to live the good life? Can be boring too if you have seen all this and done that. Like others have said, high suiside rates of unhappiness., but you can live here more cheaply than you think. I live in the Pattaya Klange area (central) in a nice apartment for 6,000 bahts a month 200usd

The meter measures how much water is used in cubic metres (one cubic metre = 1,000 litres) and you are charged a unit rate for each cubic metre of water used. Electricity meters are typically calibrated in billing units, the most common one being the kilowatt hour [kWh].

I met my wife in Pattaya and we have been together 14 years and married for 9. It is not my first marriage but it is the best. She takes better care of me than my mother did. One thing you need to understand; you will be responsible for helping her parents financially. When I moved to Thailand I settled in Pattaya. It was cheap then, I do not find it so now.The exchange rate was 40+ baht to the dollar and everything from motorbike and apt.rentals to beer was cheaper.

Yes, I'm pretty wise to the world. My GF I met in Krabi. The most dangerous thing here is driving! Bangkok Pattaya Hospital is great, and affordable. So that has been nice. Hope I never need for auto/scooter crash! I park and ride. Take scooter to main road, park it, then take Songtows into town. 10 baht is cheap insurance!

+floaterbuoy1 I was taken to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital when my gf and I got hit on my Ducati. I had seven surgeries there to put me back together and after six months of rehab and being in a wheelchair, I went to the US to follow up on my recovery for six more months. All the surgeries I had there were followed up by specialists in the US and all of them said each and every surgery done at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital was excellent. I had nine different doctors at that hospital and all but one spoke enough English to speak with me without my gf needing to translate. I managed to be able to walk again and that's thanks to the medical staff at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital (and my gf too). About another 1.5 years of recovery to go, which I will be returning to do in Thailand and the medical staff there to follow up again. I have the utmost confidence in them.

I'm working towards retiring to the Pattaya area in 3 to 5 years time so these videos will be very helpful. One suggestion: when you are done negotiating for a room, electricity, and water etc can you tell us in English and American dollars how much. My Thai is very limited and I have trouble converting. An example would be this room is 15000 baht which is about $480 to $500 a month. Thanks for posting. I've subscribed to your channel and I look forward to more in the future
