Rucks are also a nice variation on the carry. Obviously, that one is going to have lower loads and more volume.

In my ES routines I do one heavy day and in that day I test my farmers carry to see where I stand. In the other days just mix and match with relatively light weights. I love that lightness I feel when I put the weights down. I think that's how it must feel walking on the moon.

I love varying loaded carries. I like to use a three week wave for low body max effort movements where I go between squat>zercher>deadlift. Afterwards I do a carry that lines up with the main movement, usually going yoke walk>atlas stone/sandbag>farmers walk. If the max effort movement ever feels too slow or weak I stop immediately and just do prowler sprints.

As a middle aged man i find doing heavy farmer or deadlift caries once every two weeks seems to suit me well. Im still able to make progress without beating my body up.

This is interesting, discovered this by accident. I've been using a pair of 24kg kettlebells to do my loaded carries, focusing on movement quality and distance. My work capacity has improved. I was considering going heavier but maybe I could just do an uneven load instead of just going heavier. I still enjoy going heavy for strength and grip, but I appreciate this. 👍

I live in an apartment. Have you ever experimented with mixing loaded carries and stairs? I’ve been doing suitcase carries on stairs and have to say that the mixture of low intensity cardio, and total posture building effect of loaded carries has been a real eye opener! Calves get over looked in most training programs and stairs seem to pick up the slack!
@lewisyaworski8962
@lewisyaworski8962 2 года назад
Loaded carries and climbing stairs too....sounds like superhero training to me! Henry Cavill did something similar to that in his conditioning for Man of Steel, although he was coached to do them to "slender his waist while building everything else around it."

This makes so much sense! I was dragging my sled for a mile. My sled weighs 170lbs alone and I was tossing a 100lb plate on top of it. Straight up soul crushing cardio session, I dreaded it and hated it. Dropped the hundo and now use 25lb or a 45lb plate tops, way more manageable and enjoyable session. I look forward to the sessions now. More of the story lower the weight folks and don’t be a meathead all the time.

@@goforbroke2 I often don't respond to these as people will ask for programming or things that I have covered a dozen times. Or...they should really pay someone for what they are asking. I have had people, with anonymous names, ask for a year round training program. I would charge a lot for that...and they want it for free on an open site. Love the Loaded Carries.

No. See a doctor if you need to. Don't do things that hurt.
@goodebening6564

Grap the handles as hard as you can. And release the weight when it starts to slip out of the hands. Elbow problems can occur when you try to hold on to heavy weight while your fingers are about to open up when you fatigue and lose grip

Hi Coach, ive read your article about "The Secret of Loaded Carries" in the T Nation page. Truly interesting and insightful. i also read an article by CT concerning loaded carries. Is it possible to build muscle hardness and vascularity all over? many years ago in college, ive came across a friend of mine who was a native and lived in the forest for the longest time, who was totally jacked all over. he resembled the greek statue and my is he really a piece of iron! Even his glutes were like rock hard man! and not to mention he had a symmetrical body head to toe. and i asked him what did he do. He just casually answered he used carry sticks and wood up the hill every day for many years. i thought he was lying. But after reading your article and CT's, is it actually possible? If yes, could you advise how can i go about heading towards that direction? I just started doing 5 × 5 and thought by including the Loaded carries in my training arsenal. But as a primary workout on its own on a particular day. Thank you in advance for your response Coach ! :)
