You have saved me and my laptop Bernd , thank you. I travel a lot and love VFX, I am limited when using a laptop and have found that sometimes I am unable to render my compositions. Now I know that I can render anything that I manage to create. Thanks again 😃

Good stuff! I have been using savers in my particle work a lot lately. As you showed today, it really helps in working with complex effects! Thanks for sharing

super helpful, my dude! Thanks! I kept getting a glitch going from fusion to color. This bypassed that issue for me and saved me a ton of headache.

Hi Bernd, Interesting! I see an 3-4% bump in my gpu, while my 12 CPU’s fire up to 60% utilization per frame when I am rendering in Fusion Studio 16.1. I will do a test with some mask, particles, etc. to see if my cpu fires up more. Thanks for the info. Your Loader/Saver video was just what I needed for this monster Flow that I am working on. Will jump on your compositing tutorialin a week or two. Might even redo your beginner fusion tutorial. Thanks for the info!!

I'm new to using these. I just stumbled across these nodes in the DR's manual and caught my attention because I am looking for ways to be more energy and memory efficient while editing in Davinci Resolve. Lol I am that new to this concept I used the saver node today and took some time to attach it the right way but I thought I was done just leaving the node there not knowing I had to trigger it.

Great suggestions. What better way to pre-comp than output through a Saver node and import the result. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for your videos ! I'm watching them all it's awesome ! I have a strange problem when I try to use this Saver / Loader method to prerender some effects. Indeed, my Loader doesn't load anything when I try to import my EXR files. In Fusion 9 standalone, the loader works fine but in DaVinci Resolve I have absolutely no picture loaded. Any idea to help me maybe ?

So I'm looking for a feature where I can use the output of the previous frame as the input for the next one. If I can do with a frame render script I'm also happy. Do you know anything I can use here? Thanks for your hard work :)

(Initially I asked a question, but then I did my own tests and confirm that the following is true, so I leave it here for others to read of my experience). If a Saver is created in a first project where the Fusion composition is, say, 100 frames. But in subsequent projects you want to use that as a Loader, it can be used for equal or less number of frames, say 100 or less. But it cannot be subsequently used for compositions that have more than 100. In my own test, I noticed that a Fusion composition, which had 120 frames, was used to create a Saver - that produced exactly 120 .exr files. So when that Saver is subsequently used as a Loader, I can use it in compositions that have 120 or less frames - but cannot use it in compositions that have more than 120 frames. If, for instance, I subsequently use it in a Fusion composition that has 200 frames, it means that the Fusion elements display for the initial 120 frames, and then the composition is blank from frames 121 to 200.

How could it be different. You can only load frames that you rendered before. If nothing is there nothing can be loaded....

Have you ever encountered the issue where savers render images below the clip / project / timeline resolution? I have a bunch of 4k elements going into the saver. Nothing is less than 4k (some are 6k.) I have another 4k comp that feeds into the merge as a foreground right after the loader and that portion renders at 4k although the 1080 footage windows it down so that the foreground is like twice the size but cropped. I've posted this on the bm forums but nobody has been able to offer any suggestions.

Quick question. At 3:20 you can see this small blue square node that is (I think) used for rerouting the pipes and staying organised. How do I add that? Is it available in the full version of Fusion only? Or can I find it in Resolve?

Having some issues where the saver node doesn't export all the frames (it always misses a random frame) I been using it to export png (sometimes exr) of keyed footage (Delta Keyer) for use in blender. Its annoying having to always find and re-render the missing frame for every clip i need to export to blender (20 - 40 per project)

This is strange. I never had this. Check the console to see if there was any error message in the flow when this happened. Could also be something disk related or hardware driver related perhaps. Maybe check if everything is up to date and your disk is performing well otherwise - if you can't find any reason you might try and reach out to BMD support for this.
@PopoRamos
@PopoRamos 3 месяца назад
@@VFXstudy I will check to see the console when I get a chance. I have been exporting to an external ssd, I will check to see if I get different results rendering to my internal drive. (I’m using a Mac Studio ultra) I had another creator confirm that they been having the same issue.

Thank you for your tutorial, but I have a question, I just started using Fusion Studio outside Resolve, and I did a test comp. with blurry text and glow, the saver node in "Fusion studio" clips and enlarges the blur way more than what it is inside the "fusion page" in resolve, both, Resolve & Fusion using SAVER node give different effect to the highlights, I'm NOT sure why, do you have any idea? Thanks in advance
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 4 месяца назад
The saver node should work the exact same way, but it could be related to the chosen output format and/or color management. If you use 8bit codecs for example you could get clipped of values where your 16bit or 32bit exr files don't cause any trouble.
@david-el-melky
@david-el-melky 4 месяца назад
@@VFXstudy Honestly, That's exactly what I thought, but I can't find the color management in Fusion Studio, and I tried to see if any difference between "Fusion page" & "Fusion studio" preferences, all look the same, but when I changed the frame format color depth to 16bit in Fusion studio it solved the problem. but in the Fusion page it's still 8bit and it's not clipping, and this is confusing to me. I want to thank you again for your help, you've been very kind to answer my question 😀

Umm, Question what render engine does Fusion use? And is there a way to use 3rd party render engines for Fusion(Octane, Redshift etc.)? Cause I think Nuke has plugins for 3rd Party Renderers, I was wondering whether Fusion can do such. Thanks, Love the videos BTW.
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 4 года назад
Fusion has 2 internal render engines: one CPU based, one GPU based. None of which gets anywhere close to the pro render engines you mention. I believe I saw a scripting tutorial a long time ago where someone successfully showed how to connect to a 3rd Party Renderer - Cycles I believe. Might have been with Fusion 6 or 7 or so. I have never tried that myself and I don't expect this to be very easy. If you want to look into this, you might want to start by searching the WSL forum (steakunderwater.com) and the Fusion scripting guide for more info.
@Schmidtelpunkt
@Schmidtelpunkt 4 года назад
For Fusion 6.4 there was some attempt to use RenderMan, but it was more a proof of concept thing and never worked well enough for professional use. At this point it is unlikely anybody will develop anything in that direction, given BMD's poor communication policy about Fusion's roadmap and the possibility that they might flick the switch on the standalone version any moment.
@jmalmsten

Would be awesome if they opened up renderers to be loaded like plugins. Maybe it already can? Heck, Technically, could a plugin maker not "simply" build a plugin that opens .blender files and use eevee or Cycles to render the camera and animation therein?
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 4 года назад
@@jmalmsten Technically if another render engine decided to create a plugin to connect to Fusion, I think they could. I think it's more a question if someone invests into that development. Recently there was a discussion on We Suck Less Forum that Octane Renderer would get one soon... Let's see.

In Resolve 18 I created a Fusion comp and used loader nodes to connect to .png image files. When I import that Fusion comp into a new one...I noticed that the "file path" "browse" is no longer an option.....is there a way to change the file path of a loader node to something different in the new comp? Thanks in advance.
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy Год назад
not entirely sure what happend. Do you still have a Loader node or was it replaced by a MediaIn node? I think the import feature from Fusion Studio tries to convert loader nodes into MediaIn nodes in some cases. Though haven't tested recently. You could still go to the other project, copy the fusion nodes via ctrl+C into the clipboard and then paste them via ctrl+V in the new comp. That should avoid any conversion.
@ericmonroe6024
@ericmonroe6024 Год назад
@@VFXstudy yeah it was weird….I still have them showing as “loader nodes” ….I have not seen it try to convert to “media in” node as of yet. 🤪 I’ll give copying and pasting a try to see if that changes anything…thanks for the help!

what if you have many save nodes and you want to render just one. how do you do this? so every time you press the "Render all Savers", it will again and again render the same things which makes it no difference to the usual render. how to make sure you render just a single saver node?
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
Just disable the saver nodes that you don't need rendered (ctrl+p). In the Fusion Scripting guide I remember there's a script which could automatically disable all savers in the flow except for the selected one - could help if you are building huge flows with lots of render nodes...
@Love-wj5vi
@Love-wj5vi 3 года назад
@@VFXstudy thanks. This is the solution that I only found before. By the way, is there a difference between sss.mp0.exr format and sss.exr. The first one is present automatically in the saver node. I deleted the “mp0” thing and nothing changed. ? And also, why do you think the light reinforces itself when you save two animations with the “saver” node and join them with the “loader” node? Both animations have the same camera and lights, so I duplicated them in both animations to follow the camera for the 3D text. Otherwise without the duplication of camera and lights, my other animation either becomes too dark or too light and without the camera. Is it the right way of doing it?
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
@@Love-wj5vi Nos sure where you see "sss" or "mp0" that doesn't seem to be an option of the save node. If it's only in the filename it's just text in the filename. The types are available via dropdown and as far as I know there's only one "OpenEXR" type. Regarding the lights - maybe you are merging two inputs with alpha on top of each other? kind of duplicating something? Not sure about your flow or what you mean by joining loader nodes...

Hi Bernd, Am I correct in assuming that Fusion Studio 16.1 does not use a gpu for timeline previews? Does it use gpu for saver nodes rendering? I have a nvidia p4000 gpu. Thanks, Art
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 4 года назад
Many of the Fusion nodes are GPU accelerated and Fusion does use the GPU while calculating those nodes both in preview and in final render. This includes masks and blurs and most of the common nodes. The saver node itself only does the encoding which is probably not gpu accelerated.

Hi there, I've used saver nodes & was able to render all savers before. Now it tells me I've reached a limitation and cannot render any savers. Does this limitation impact Resolve free version? or is it a bug. I cannot find anything anywhere that says it's a Studio version only thing.
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
Oh, I'm also not aware that there was any feature restriction in the Free version here. Could be that BMD introduced something, but I'm also not aware. Could it be that you used any other node anywhere in the flow that has a restriction and prompted the message? Maybe try a super simple flow with just 2-3 saver nodes and nothing else to test...

I tried this to speed up my Fusion Composition. Saving a branch with just a Tiff image, a bunch of rectangles and Text+ Nodes was saving at 1 fps, and I have a decent system. Replacing the Tiff image with a rectangle was rendering at 2fps. Unfortunately, Fusion in Resolve is just terribly slow, CPU and GPU utilisation is always way below 50% and it is almost impossible to work with just 50/60 2D nodes (a "Power Point like" animation with just images and text).
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
Hmm, hard to say what's going on in your comp. If it's tiff itself, try exr instead which might run better. But if the comp itself is slow even though it should be simple, there might be other reasons in the comp. E.g., lot's of background nodes creating individual image streams etc, that could possibly be combined or other things.
@rinsim
@rinsim 3 года назад
@@VFXstudy Thanks for the quick reply! I indeed use a lot of Background nodes combined to masks to create shapes to highlight a particular section of an image. I could do the same with a Paint node and see the difference. My compositions really have only images with alpha (Tiff), Text+ nodes, Masks, Merge nodes and so on for a total of maximum 80 nodes. It is really like a Power Point presentation with animations and Resolve can't playback smoothly. Sometimes it can't playback at all! I see a lot of disk activity for the caching, at very slow speed (~10 Mb/s), but I don't think the bottleneck is the disk (SSD SATA 3). Green screen and Color grading work ok. Creating "Power Point" animations doesn't.

@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
Not sure, check if there are any errors coming upstream first. Otherwise if it's only from the saver, check the file directory and file path and extension. In DaVinci Resolve I think you have to stick to exr files.

Just ran into this issue... LOADER and SAVER nodes don't work with image sequences or movie files in DaVinci Resolve Fusion page (I believe it DOES work with still images though). This is apparently a difference between Fusion and DaVinci Resolve Fusion page. You need to create MediaIn nodes to bring movie files into DaVinci Resolve Fusion. It's easy enough to do that just by dragging a media clip from the Media Pool page into the Node Editor window to automatically create a MediaIn node of the clip you want to work with.

Hi Bernd, thank you for the explanation. I am having trouble getting the Davinci Fusion Loader to work properly. I initially created a .gif animation using Canva.com, and then converted it to .exr using convertio.com This created a .exr.zip file that I tried to have Fusion point to in the Loader, but it still doesn't register anything. Do you have any ideas? Thanks so much for your time!!
