Thanks for showing the local baits. James River rats don't mess around. BTW, those (chartreuse) drop jigs are what the saltwater guys on the east coast use for bottom fishing for seabass, flukes/flounder, tautogs, etc.
Both of those shops are definitely my go to places around here. Bass pro and Cabela’s are close by but they don’t have the variety of those two shops. Fishing Pro Tech is also a great small shop in the Willamsburg area
I noticed your absennce at our last meeting Tackle Junkie Anomalous While this even is concerning, we do not feel as you've gone over the edge - again 😂
Best tackle shop in this area is fishing pro tech .Lin bell is a book of knowledge and his inventory is second to none . You missed out ... Greentop isn't great anymore they were better when it was a mom and pop store. Dances is solid like them allot. Pro tech awesome !!!!
Damn man, just ruined my secret weapon, the salt water jerk shad. Been catching tons of bass on those for years. Killed them the other day on those using the hover rig. Both of those stores rock , lucky to have them in our area.
Green top did get gander mountains old store since they closed because of green top ha there shop used to be a lot smaller and has been around a long time they got your core tackle jig heads as well that I request
Dance's is about an hour from me and whenever going 95 north it and Green Top are must stops. I wish you had a better James tournament experience. It's a huge area to breakdown with great targets everywhere.
I get in trouble when I’m workin in colonial heights cuz I always spend money on tackle at dances!! Moneymaker is the best jig, buy stuff from them alot.
Thanks for shouting out both Dances and GreenTop! I'm in the RVA area as well. These two spots are top tier as far as local shops go. BP & Cabela’s , Dicks... even Academy aren't quite up to the standard these shops have set
What depthfinder mount are you using on the front for your boat? I just got a second unit for the front of my boat and I need to be able to offset it like yours is.
I’m headed down in. Few minutes to represent The Fallen Outdoors at the finale. Was hoping you’d make it in and I could meet you. Next time! Safe travels.
Local stores are great. WE had one in White Marsh, near Middle River, in Maryland. A 4 tube 2 tone green and cream with some siler glitter. I used a Don Ivino tube weight. It's flat fits inside the tube, and makes the tube swirl down, like a dying minnow. Still have 3 or4 left, and 15 tubes left, from 90's they are very durable tubes especially with flat weights, and off set hooks. Many a BASS tourniment and Federation tournament held there. That's where Aron Martens won on a marina. Your hover weights would work, hard to change old habits, that work.
Remind me of a kid dumping out his bag of Halloween candy. I do the same thing when I get home from The Tackle store. Cuz I usually have a bag full and I don't remember half of what I bought so it's like scoring all over again
Great job shopping Matt👏👏👏 I found those Flat style jigs 20+ years ago in Belize and I caught bone fish on my spinning gear which was unreal experience. I also caught redfish and flounder in Florida with them. I’ve been ordering from Dances for about 4 years now, and they have a great manager and I have made some special orders of Trick worm colors. I think they may be the largest Zoom dealer in the country. I would love to visit the store, because I wasn’t aware of their hardbait selection. Those Berkley saltwater flukestyle baits look deadly in the colors. You definitely scored, and I hope both stores gave you a great deal because I know you are sending them a ton of business and that’s great business 😜😎😜 Always learn from your channel💯👍🙏
Great video. I look forward to these videos at each tournament. The area i'm in all the local shops closed up years ago and I'm left with Dicks Sporting Goods or Walmart that both drastically shrinking fishing sections now. I wish there were more local shops . .... I've actually heard of the money maker jigs before. They look like a solid jig for sure.
Awesome to hear you talk about our local bait shops around here, I would have loved to come out and meet some of y’all but I’m a truck driver and was on the road till Friday night, Saturday we had company and Sunday most of the guys I was interested in seeing were out 😕
That "structure jig" looks a lot like a Bottom Sweeper, there's a handful of similar, good for fishing crabs for sheepshead and drum. Have 'em, but haven't thought to try for bass.
Interesting finds! While stationed at Andrews AFB, I fished the Potomac and some other areas close to where you are. Those were some good local choices. Like the 5 o'clock shadow!
I live in a rural community south of Akron, Ohio home of the the Fred Arborgast Jitterbug. If you make it to this area look up Mogadore Bait and Tackle.. old school shop with new old stock.
The original Green Top was smaller but still great. Yes, they took over the Gander Mountain. I use the River Rock tubes. You were 60 miles or so from Lake Gaston and John Kerr (Buggs Island Lake). A tackle shop in Clarksville, VA Bobcat's is a good one.
Funny, I do the same thing when I visit a new fishery. Any time I see something unusual at one of those shops I jump on them figuring it must me some local knowledge and I might be missing out. I picked up some interesting hair jigs at a small shop around Smith Mountain Lake and killed them on it down there. Got to take a chance.
Fun seeing your take on a lot of these saltwater staples BKD is one of the oldest and most productive striped bass baits in the bay. People have been jigging those things for 30+ years catching 50lb bass Banana jigs like that structure jig are made for fishing live crabs for sheepshead and tog/black sea bass NLBN is super hot in the last 5 years for basically everything. You would LOVE the K tail Saltwater jerk shads are pretty dope, and super durable
Again I'm so glad you come in our area and look particularly at Green Top I'm there about at least once every 6 weeks it's right down the road from Lake Anna that's where I live love to meet you down here sometime sometime sometime
You got me thinking right away a while back on one off your videos your had putt out an apb too your subs concerning a softbait in pink from zoom that was discontinued and you had one pack left did you find any of those, good selections by the way 👍
Awesome to see you here locally, it’s something we don’t get to see much around here is tips on fishing our local fisheries, only other local shop, I feel is Wilcox in New port News, would have said Fishing Hole in Wakefield, but they closed their does few years back. Thanks for the awesome content, hopefully you talked them into picking up some Core tackle.
Hey Matt, if that saltwater jig head works out, you can buy some flower arrangement wire at hobby lobby and make a weed guard for it if you need it to be weedless.
Matt I am so glad you come to Green Top I live about 43 minutes from there and I visit that store all the time they're the selection is phenomenal I wish I could have met you there out about you lunch
Green Top is awesome. Always a stop when I am in the area. Spent the day at the MLF knockout round today at Osborne Turnpike. Keep up the great content, and thank you.
Problem is, I haven't been able to get in touch with Dave's for years now. Left messages on IG, voicemail box is full when you call the number listed on website. Do you have a good contact number for Dave?
Greentop has been in Richmond for decades! I swear they've been around longer than Bass Pro Shops, and I'm talking about the original store in Springfield.
I’ve always enjoyed scrounging around in my travels . Something I’ve always done for over 50 years. My biggest problem is a lot of my travel is out of the country . That gets tricky getting things back into the States at time. I liked the Money Maker jig in the Blue Crab. Thanks for making the video today.
