Glad you enjoyed! You were totally right, the losing false set comes from the razor thin spool lips combined with the bevelled keypin - this lock is much easier to pick with feather light tension, where you can just tap spools up and never get that little overset (never lose the false set) Fantastic job picking mate! - Iona

Nice picking of an Aussie icon, one note would be that these pick so much differently (and nicer) with featherlight tension and they actually punish heavy tension by oversetting.

A lovely pick indeed. The spools are different to normal ones where their thin lips make it very, very difficult to learn that you can't lift them any more than after the counter rotation stops. Their fat bodies also give a bit of muted feedback. Definitely an Australian locksport classic!

You have to love how great the Lockwoods look. I would say how great they pick but not got hold of one yet. It's on my list. Nicely picked and gutted.

They are a great fun lock to pick, i had so much fun trying to pick mine the first time until i gutted it & found what i was up against then i was able to pick it with ease.

That looked quite challenging, thanks for sharing your first try 👍 These pins must be hard to overcome. I always struggle with bittings like these which include so many short keypins. They always feel weird when picking... With bittings like this i am always tempted to try an overlift "attack", just to see how fast it would give up to this...
@LockNoob

Great channel. I could pick most padlocks when I was 11 years old,but Lockwood was impossible for me.Fast forward 36 years and I raked one open with a wave pick a few months ago. The worm finally turned with my pouch of new gear. Gidday from NZ

They can be really tough
@djfunkychicken
@djfunkychicken 2 года назад
you might get lucky raking cheaper lockwood padlocks but most with the serrated pins will never open Just remember when picking them.. they have smaller pins than usual (less lifting) and be gentle on the tension

@@djfunkychicken Thanks for your good advice.The Lockwood that I currently have is an old one.Recently I’ve been raking it into a false set then finishing with single pin picking.I still find it very tough.I haven’t started gutting locks yet.

@@troybarker2433 Try picking without raking.. Oversetting just one pin she'll never open. Good luck!

An interesting lock, which could benefit from having more varied bitting. Those pins do add a decent challenge though. Well picked! Thanks for the video, Ash. 🙂👍

I think the lock is gorgeous, but when I saw the bitting so high I thought it would be a much easier pick. Looks are definitely deceiving, I guess the taper and the spools along with the tolerances of the lock make it that much more of a challenge. Nice job especially for your second pick.

Of all the keys i've seen on our Aussie lockwoods.. that's gotta be the most marginal bitting i've seen. Usually it's much worse with greater highs and lows everywhere As for the pins.. many will have a stack of little discs between the spring and pins (sometimes on either side!)
@LockNoob

I’ll take whatever bitting I get 😆

How'd I find it? Annoyingly, frustratingly, INCREDIBLY easy to overset. Also, thanks to fantastic tolerances, unless you get the binding order *exactly* right, you're picking every pin at least twice. Pin 5 is cut so low that it feels like a serrated as you just touch it and it instantly drops into a false set. In fact, it's so easy to everset, both times I've managed to open it, I had to overset the last pin and then drop the tension vvveeeeeerrryyyy slowly, AND have the reflexes to turn the cylinder the very instant it drops, or everything else drops with it. It's fun and all, but 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤯 I love it though. It's definitely my prettiest lock.

Worst bitting I have seen for a Lockwood ASSA abloy but well done picking it these are notorious for the pins requiring multiple attempts to set them some fall as others set etc

Looks like you overset every single pin at least once there haha. Feather light tension is the way to go with those, you really need to give it another try with light tension, even off camera
